The adventures of the Pocketship Candy-O.
Wednesday Night on the Corpus Christi Bay
Sailboat racing on Wednesday night on the Corpus Christi Bay with great friends. Races are held every Wednesday year round. With the Covid going on there was no race committee last Wednesday. Videoed with a Hero Black 8 GoPro. I still have a bit to learn on the features, but this camera is awesome.

For the fourth year I set out on a sailboat I built in my garage to sail from the southern tip of Texas two hundred miles north to Magnolia beach to eat a boiled shrimp dinner.

My Driveway is a Channel
Переглядів 9538 років тому
Monday, May 16, 2016, my driveway was flooded from the rains over the weekend. I got bored and knocked some of the dust off my ho made kayak and checked out the water!
Now I have to buy another sailboat
Hi! Can you sell me the design of this boat?
@@to4kaaa check out the Chesapeake Light Craft website. They sell plans and kits. Their customer service is excellent. 👍
how is the temp at night?
@@mychannel-rv9gy the temps at night are still pretty warm but I installed a solar panel and was able to keep my battery charged enough to keep a fan going all night. I had a screen for the companion way to keep out the mosquitoes so the airflow was good. Also I slept on a thick mattress topper. All that and the rocking of the boat made for comfortable sleeping.
What is that double ender at 15 minutes in??
❤
Beautifully built and painted PocketShip! Someday this east coaster might get his Green ILUR to this event! thanks for the great video - R
It didn't know ho's were interested in boatbuilding. I thought they just liked having sex for money.
I watch your videos sometimes and relax. This is a great and carefree way to spend your free time. I'm planning to spend my holiday on a sailing ship in the North Sea soon. I wish you all the best. Greetings from Bavaria.
Wow. That is really cool. Thank you.
There was more than one boat which makes it a guarantee it’s a race!
... well, I like your way of reporting about the Texas 200 and (!) your pocket ship, why are there no more reports about your ship? Hope you're ok?
My 200 hundred mile adventures have changed to riding my bicycle 200 miles in one day on gravel. This coming spring maybe I’ll get back to doing some sailing. 👍. All is well thanks!
... good to hear, @@jbratt, ... may the health always be with you ... 🙂
Do you have any video tour of the boat you built and what kind is it? Looks like a nice rig
Check my channel. One of the first videos I ever shot is up there with shots of the boat
oof, hurricane Harvey... as a Houstonian... that triggered some memory...
You guys had it rough 😢. I am in Houston right now. Looks like things did dry a bit since Harvey.
Great video even after a half dozen times watching! AllthebestRoy
Hey I’ve got a question about your centerboard. I’ve also got a CLC Pocketship and this past weekend the centerboard got stuck in the up position and won’t go down. Is that the same problem you had and if so how did you fix it? I’m not sure if the best way to access and fix the problem.
The inspection plates we’re dragging on the sides. I took them out and shaved them down and all was good.

@@jbratt well I got the boat up and turns out my bump with a sandbar I couldn’t see got some rocks and pebbles stuck up in there. I butchered a Christmas lawn ornament to get a long thin rod to get up in there and got the rocks out and the board finally dropped while I got it up on a boat lift. But since I’m the boats second owner it’s the first time I’ve seen the centerboard and I have no idea if it’s supposed to wiggle a bit or not. Lol hopefully I’m good to launch again tomorrow.
@@iluvgrouphugz It's good you got it sorted out. Yes, the centerboard does have a bit of wiggle room. There is a pocket ship forum at pocketship.net where there is a lot of information and active users. Be safe and have fun!
Great boats, great music at the start too! Actually great music all through!
I scrolled past this title a dozen times. I had to know what that meant! Not worth it.
Wow that is a nice boat.
Cool video. You guys are lucky to have so much options down there for sailing. The shrimp looked tasty too.
Was the ho that made your boat?
Congratulations on completing the trip, and thanks for sharing your experience.
Interesting
Very cool.😊
It is awesome! I have seen this video repeatedly. Thank you very much for such a professional presentation! The event itself is a real adventure for the real people! Many Russian friends ask if the Russian subtitles could be added? Please do it if possible! Regards!
Thank you. I’m not sure how to add the subtitles but I will look into it 👍😀
Thanks a lot!
By the way these are two of my garage creations: ua-cam.com/video/mZxu33BCTpw/v-deo.html; ua-cam.com/video/7NR1aj2EKYw/v-deo.html
Your meticulously precise attention to detail and outstanding craftsmanship are evident wherever one's eye settles on your beautiful craft! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous compact craft, you've done a fine job and have a great deal to be proud of.
Thank you Felix. I wish I could say more for the video 😀. It was the first one I made. There are a few more videos I made each one got better. Check out the channel. Thanks for your kind words.
I expect that the Pocketship template sailboat were regarded among the highest seaworthiness of all pocket yacht category compare than to the Weekender's template Pocket Yacht as though I have my own discretions how to configure the Pocket Yacht Class into extended to the qualified seaworthiness 1. I've wanted to do this in a Matt Layden Paradox with chine runners but I would also want a 3/4 keel about 3 feet deep. My grandmother had a fishing camp past the Baffin Bay, since the early 60's On the man made islands next to the intracoastal waterway. My brother & I would take our Hobie cat out in the summers, & explore all the bays & inlets. There are so many fishing camps. We would always take a Neilgide, antelope so we would have plenty of meat the whole summer. My brother had a whole made little barge with a Johnson 25. We would put our Honda 3 wheeler 110 on it, & ride it in Los Amos Creek & that's where we would always try & get a Nalgide. This had to be in 1980 or 81. My grandmother's camp was one of the oldest because she had giant palm trees around her camp. She had an old Army diesel generator. Back in the early 80's you could throw a cast net & catch good size shrimp. I sure miss the good ole days of growing up in South Texas, or the Coastal Bend as Joe Gazin always called it.
What kind of Ho was she? Streetwalker or Out calls ? 🩱👙👠💄
Is you solar panels generate energy for the boat? That is a 50 w panel right? I am considering get a 50 w panel at the same location, but not sure how it performs.
I can’t remember the wattage but it keeps my battery topped of for a 5 day trip. All the lights I have a LED. I run my GPS and depth finder all day. I also run a couple of fans inside the cabin all night. I also charge my phone. I don’t put much strain on the system. It is capable of much more.
hell yeah whataburger! true TEXAS style !
Looks like a lot of people opt for leeboards here
Great crew having great time!
Fascinating! I keep watching your video. are you doing again this year?
I am thinking about it 😄👍
Cool soundtrack
Love the story and video, great work!
So nice! Thx for sharing! :D
one of the beauties of a small boat is how far you can get from big waves
I have been through some fairly large waves in it. It did make me a bit nervous. I like to stay away.
@@jbratt I have been looking at building the Pocketship for a long time. Of course I have seen John Harris' video about sailing the Pocketship, where he puts it through the paces on all points of sail, but he does the whole thing on flat seas. I wondered how it meets a 2-3 foot wave.
@@NilezII I have met 3 foot plus waves straight on with my outboard motor running. It was not much fun but I was able to get through the break. As far as the strength of the boat, it’s tough when built properly. That includes the mast and tabernacle. Keep in mind it’s only a 15 foot boat. It’s probably not best to venture out during a small craft advisory but have been caught out in one and faired well.
What sailboat design is at 10:09?
what a great commentry.....thanks for sharing such a pleasurable journey. Can't wait to see more. :)
Thank Jesus the peeps brought your boat back. Nice work. Them and you.
Not sure why you got a ho building your boat?
Pimpin’ ain’t easy...
I have just binged watched a couple of your videos, really nicely done, thanks for taking me on the journey through the inter-coastal waterways of Texas, we dont really have anything like that here in Australia. I have just bought a 20' trimaran to do this type of adventure sailing, in rivers and lakes, the Texas 200, Everglades challenge and race to Alaska are really inspirational.
Amazing video, So cool!
Класс! молодцы!
Thank you 👍
Looking out my backyard at a lovely sailboat which I rescued from certain oblivion mast and as new sails and mast on Keppel island definitely urged me to get off my back side and go to sea she's a look of a North sea Nordic boat clinker sided grp hull with bowsprit. So finish my beer and start work on her. Marty
No probs mate now found a bowsprit needs replacement rest is ok got A good mate was secretory of the Keppel sailing club soon as NSW people can get into Qld then it's all on bud send pics soon as I have sorted bloody technology at 72 not out bit average re computer shit thanks Marty
Hi! What size outboard will you be using? Cheers.
I use the Honda 2.3. It was the smallest available. The boat designer says the 2.0 was big enough but I couldn’t find one. If I had it to do over I would find one with a longer shaft because when I have needed it the water has been pretty rough and the propeller would come out of the water. With a long shaft you have to be careful the rudder doesn’t contact the prop. This is a really old video I have done a lot of sailing since this was made. Check out the exams 200 videos. The quality of the videos get much better. Thanks for watching.
We miss your 2021 Texas 200. Still sailing?
The boat has been sitting out in the weather and is in much need of maintenance . This summer I moved it inside to work on in the shop. The work will start this winter when the temperatures cool down. One way or another I hope the boat will sail the 200 next year. It could be me or someone that buys it from me 😀
@@jbratt saunds depressing… there are clubs for small boat owners. Maybe someone will buy it from you there. In EU there is a big interest for trailer sailers. Specifically now during Covid times. I would definitely buy it from you if you would be in EU.
Awesome video, thank you. Hope to see more about your sailboat too.
I just think it is wonderful that you are employing hos to make boats
Do you get them to do it at home?
How much did the kit cost?
It's been a few years since I built it. There are options so the best thing to is check the Chesapeake Light Craft web site for current prices. They are great to work with.
