Norm sits down with Joey to test two workbench lamps designed for modelmaking and miniatures painting, using a Sekonic spectrometer to analyze the color quality of these lighting options. If you've ever bought an LED lamp and wondered what the CRI rating means, we have a surprising answer! We're the team of people who help make Adam Savage's Tested, and this channel is a new place where you can get to know us better, in videos that dive into our own passions, processes, and projects.
I’m here for this, tested has been a part of my life me through much of my 20’s and almost halfway through my 30’s. I enjoy getting glimpses into the rest of the team’s hobbies and experiences and any advice you guys have for processes and materials. I hope this channel is successful
What about full body statues. Some of us find chopped off heads repulsive.
Behind it is a strong music theory background.
keep it up, awesome !
Awesome!
The first few minutes reminded me of Blood Rave from the Blade soundtrack. Awesome stuff Mel.
Like the branching out. Great intro to the elektrons for the tested fans. I have the digitakt and it’s not very intuitive but will go down as a classic electronic music must have.
3:36 getting OG MK movie vibes.
Cool with 80’s movie music vibes! Be cool for Mel to deep dive and talk about the synths and setting them up 😊 Also get Mel to talk making art digitally 😊
When painting a room, I always try to check the paint colour under the kind of lighting that would be used in that room - my local suppliers actually have a little recess where you can hold the sample chips under 'daylight', warm LED, white LED etc. By that logic, while this is genuinely interesting and useful as a more in-depth review of the lights, for miniatures specifically I kinda wonder how many of those ever see daylight. Back when I was painting my own 40K minis, for example, maybe I should have been seeking out the lamp that best replicates a poorly lit basement? 😉
Obv. I posted this before they'd got to the MUA lighting bit 😅
This was an enjoyable watch. Definitely need more of Mel’s DJ sets.
Mel! F*ck yeah!❤😊
Yeah, Mel!!!
Please reboot still untitled and this is only a test. Or similar. Please!
That. Was. AWESOME ! I think I'll be listening to this again, and improv' with you with my bass :)
yus!! moar please! have been compiling hardware (but weak in the artistic sense) and this is a welcome addition. def down to see more!
YES. I love Mel and this is fucking brilliant. This is worth the time and the editing. Amazing few moments to sit and jam with Mel. Make it Monthly with Mel please!!!!!! 🙏🏻
Also… I watch sooooo many synth vids and tuts… I love that this is uncut and people understand how much experimentation goes into to the truly live track… You’re there for the journey not the LP.
+1 here! This was really enjoyable, & did an unexpectedly fantastic job occupying my ADHD brain while assembling fiddly little things, especially with the thought process commentary. Unlike OP I've never watched a synth video before, so it was fun seeing what some of the twiddly buttons do. Also fun nostalgia, reminded me of being a kid playing with the looping functions on my dad's keyboard (except Mel is actually good, which is more than you could say for me or my dad! 😂 ) I'd love this as a regular series, maybe even in a longer format if they'd be up for it 🙂 (think of all the new toys you could call business expenses...)
"you remember Mel! Yes!" 😊
Loved this. Super fun video.
Awesome music, and fascinating to see Mel's synth jam process. I really enjoyed seeing their combination of mastery of tools and working in the flow-state.
The music at the 10min mark has a warhammer vibe
luv, luv, luv....
Loving seeing more of the team like this on this channel!! Currently hunting for a new groove box myself
This cooks btw!
❤️🔥MEL❤️🔥
Playing with tech! Not music!
The best part (in my opinion) is around 4:25. Look at Mel's face: there's not so much thinking or considering as simply...feeling. What feels right here? Don't touch anything, just listen, enjoy. That's how music should be (again, in my opinion) - a feeling, not a calculation.
😊
3:23 😂
I can only mentally process using about 3-4 buttons so this is about 20x more than I can understand..
Awesome. More stuff like this please!
Nothing better than seeing creatives in create mode. Thanks for sharing Mel!
this was awesome! i know clint from LGR does this as well. I wonder if you guys can get clint on the channel to have some fun with mel. that would be cool!
Fireeee. I could hear this music being used in video games or movies
That just looks like magic to me.
Mel RULES
I've been watching a lot of videos on the Digitakt lately. May eventually give in and buy one.
I would check out the Digitone 2 before the Digitakt (1 or 2), it's synth based rather than sample based as the Digitakt is. It's way more flexible on its own (in my opinion of course, being more a synth person than a sample person). ;)
this is really dope!
Love Mel thanks
Having had the pleasure of knowing Mel IRL, it's remarkable how identical they are on UA-cam. Most folks make up a persona when they do the UA-cam thing, and it's a little bit them, a little bit who they aspire to be, a lot of them trying hard to be what they think the audience wants. But Mel is Mel.
Super cringe and no one cares
Genuine.
Wow, you play so well, Mel! Happy New Year! :)
Check out Amazon Japan. They have the olfa knife! And probably other stufff you would like too! Tons of Tamiya products for example...
This channel is fantastic. Please consider an updated version of "this is only a test" or the other podcast you had with Jeremy and Kishore. I miss those wonderful nerdy discussions
RIP This Is Only A Test
More blue light is good for working and red light is good for ambiance and mood lighting possibly due to evolutionary pressures from blue sky during the day and red, orange, and purple sky at dusk and dawn.
Lighting is often ignored, but it can make a huge difference in work quality and reducing fatigue. Proper lighting can also save money in many ways.
Wonder if the spectrometer has an actual prism or interpolates voltage from RGB photodiodes to estimate the pastel wavelengths.
Lions went to Japan in 2002 & 2006 but didn't appreciate it enough. It wasn't a big deal in those days.
I’m going to add a small LED strip light to about 2ft above my workbench with a pelmet to avoid glare. This gives me a good overall light and then use one of these desk lights for focussed light. Helps with middle age eyes! Keep the videos coming 😊
I thought this was an SNL skit
To test the difference in the red, I would just put out some red items and compare the lights and see how they look. I noticed when comparing some lights, very unscientifically, the red looked superfunky on the cheaper RGB strips compared to high quality LED lights... I just looked at them with my eyes, did not involve a camera.
This was a really great video, thank you!
