So much work going into that restoration. Hats off to your dedication and work. It looks fabulous.Piano restoration is an art. Excellent 🎉🎉
Fantastic job. Finishing and mechanical.
Or the piano exit to “Layla”…
You gotta slip a little boogie woogie in there with the Chopin.
And I used Mohawk finish .
I refinished a Stultz +Bauer 25 years ago, and this video brought back many memories. I had a coach from a piano store who advised me, so he kept me from shortcuts.
Definitely need a battery-electric trolley.
Lovely work to bring a piano in need of extensive renovation back to better than new condition. Also as an ex piano tuner very nice to see you tuning the proper way instead of using a phone app that I see people using these days. You will never get an accurate equal tempered scale cheating like that. Many thanks for a very enjoyable video.
so out of focus that I can't watch
You are very love this job!
My piano was in prestine condition. I was 40 yrs old when i was finally able to afford my grand. My home was struck by lightening and what wasnt ruined by fire and smoke was ruined by water and mold. My "girl" still sounds great but the constrution company didn't respect my request on keeping things off of it. Now I have tons of scratches and she looks terrible. I was thinking I could fix it but I see it is so much work.
I like the old color better
Amazing skill both as a musician and a technician A joy to watch
Heehee . . . your Rach ended where I actually find the double time easier to play with my small hands!
As far as removing swirls with black paint (or any color) I use a 3 inch orbital polisher with foam like a DA sander and apply Maguire's number 9. Their are various fine pads that work with this. It will work as a final glaze and also work as a hand glaze to finish the paint to a better luster. I have worked in automotive paint work for 51 years and it is the best I have ever found. Also I use their 105 for compounding before glazing. I was wondering is there a way to bring back the bass strings to original color without harming the strings?
Thanks for the tips! I ended up restringing it and replacing the hammers as well: Update and better recording of the Schiedmayer B ua-cam.com/video/oZizJGdXwHo/v-deo.html
I have about a 6 x 6 “ area on a very visible exposed side panel of an upright that looks like someone tried to do a repair. You can’t feel the scratches. Can I do something to just that area out would I have to attempt to resurface the entire panel?

I have a Kawaii KG-2A satin finish that after moving has turned cloudy… I’m nervous to do much. Tried the Cory satin cleaner and polish and it did nothing. Any recommendations?
Is the piano wood colored or black? If wood colored, was the piano moved to a more well-lit area compared to where it was? There was a problem with a lot of those 30-50 year old kawai’s, with the sealer coat, sprayed at too high humidity in the factory. After several decades they begin to “blush” and look cloudy. I’ve seen several and tried everything. Nothing works besides refinishing. OR: does the new environment have an ultrasonic humidifier? This type of humidifier also spews into the air all the calcium and lime present in the water, and I’ve seen black pianos “turn white” because of this phenomenon. This can be cleaned off. If wood colored, you can try a minwax marker of the same color as your finish (walnut, mahogany), and see if it soaks in and clears up the blushing, or just sits on top. In my experience, it will look a little better temporarily, then go back to looking the same after a few days. Best of luck, Jake
Congratulations, really enjoyed this
Wonderful content! Thank you for sharing.
Wow! I am looking at doing a 1911 Smith and Barnes, just refinish.
Absolutely fascinating, Jacob! Thank you very much for sharing.
Ok. This is insane. Just happened upon this video. The restoration was very interesting in itself then yoy did that at the end. There are brilliant people on this planet. You are one. I am still shocked at your piano chops. ...
Mason ? i had a friend named Mason He would say Mason like the jar. Herman Mason . he had Cancer
Such a talented young man who does it all. First, a remarkable rebuild and then a first rate concert. Thank you! I have a 1960 Baldwin 5’3 baby grand. It hasn’t been tuned in probably 20 years. It’s a very bright, loud sound that actually hurts my ears a little. People love the sound but for me I have to play it using the left pedal to soften the volume. My piano teacher loved playing it. It also has some rough key tops. So, it obviously needs tuning and voicing plus making the action easier, gentler (is that a term). Would this be considered a major tuning/repair? Where are you located? I’m in Ohio. Thanks for any suggestions.
Great video, first time I see a piano restorer that can play too! That was a unbelievable ending to an already mind boggling video of how many intricate processes the restoration took. The world is full of amazing people and you are one! I'm a fan and thank you for your hard work and showing me what is possible in the world of the art.
I see you have a few sending tool , where did you ordered?

You rock young man. Love your channel.
Dude that is sick.
👌✅♥️
Beautiful. Scott from Illinois.
Good stuff.
Beautiful sounding piano. I love my Baldwin
I really did enjoyed watching your video well-done 🎼🎶🎵🎹✅💯
If you ever need help redoing nickel or gold finishes on those parts, or if you need a new piece made, give me a shout.
Thanks for the video. Working on a Steinway Model M 1927 here in Chicago. It is in pretty good shape, but all the things you encountered here I am dealing with. Sigh.
I have a 1927 Steinway and am working on restoring it. It doesn’t have a high gloss, but I am watching everything I can to learn as much as I can.
Sir you make some awesome repairs , please make a how to repair on one of the decent size damages so I can try and repair my subwoofer with the same poly finish. Really appreciate it 🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Fantastic repair , any chance on a how to video at normal speed ? Thanks 🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Love the commentary. Much more useful and informative for someone like me.
very cool.
Is there a way to quickly discern if you have a polyester finish?
If the finish is black, wet a rag with acetone and wipe the finish in a conspicuous area. If it makes the rag black, it’s not polyester. If the finish is not black, it just takes experience to know what you’re looking at.
I just have a hairline scratch on a B&W Naultilus 802N speaker (glossy black area). Stayed to watch your attention to detail. Nice job.
I'm curious-I'm assuming you're still in the field servicing clients. The time you spend in the 'barn' is clearly extensive. How many hours a week would you say you practice to maintain your chops?
With a baby and a toddler, very, very little. 😆
18:00 looks like you just successfully converted the finish from Polished Ebony to Satin Ebony ;)
Wow nice work sir!! Not only are you a gifted technician/rebuilder, you are a gifted pianist as well!! 🤯
Despite the 100x filming, I can tell you have done an excellent work on this Mason & Hamlin. I'm positive your finished work made this piano a better instrument than the day it was made.I've been working on pianos - as a novice, for about 20 years. In 2004, I bought a no-name (no brand) baby grand for $100. In all truth, I should have charged the seller that much just to remove it. That piano was a textbook examp[le of anything that could be wrong with a piano. The pin block was shot', soundboard cracked, key covers missing, case had gouges in the wood - you name it, this piano had those issues. It took the better part of a year to get that piano "close" to playable. On a more revlevant note (to your video) , in 2016, I purchased ( by fortune) a 1929 Mason & Hamiln AA for $600. Despite its age, it played like a dream. I kept it in storage until a move demanded I make a choice. I sold it for $1,500 to a gentleman who had it restored. To the best of my knowledge, the piano now resides somewhere in Maryland. It's been a good decade since I've worked on a piano at all. I still have have all of my tools - some of them home-made. My hats off to you and your trade. Keep doing what you do!
Bravo!!!! Beautiful restauration and magnificent interpretation!!
