How to prepare as an international business major @ UCSD

I will be mainly going over the upper division classes for IB majors. If you’re stuck in between Business Econ, Business Psych, or IB, this video will benefit you. I learned to love my major and do not regret the decision I made. If you struggle in mathematics, watch my video on how I passed all of my calculus classes. I will link it here. Hello baby gals :) I'm trying to get better at editing these vlogs so please bear with me! Hope this video entertains you & makes you consider checking this place out. I want to come back to try their weekend brunch, YUM :P
Hello, so I am currently a ucsd student and was seeing if anyone knew what the Math 10A series in the community college is called and which community college it will be offered in?
@@bluefruit6208 yes it’s in minute 5:40!
Did you do it through AIFS?
@@danielleguerrero4626 This that a program? I did this through UCEAP which lets you apply for financial aid.
Thanks for the geat video!!
Saying UCSD is not diverse because 60% of its students is Asian is wild imo. I think we need to remember how big Asia is, and how many ethnicities are included in just that region. And I would like to point out that you might think that people are rude, but that is coming from a very American perspective. As someone from Asia, we do not usually make small talk or smile at people we do not know. If someone talks to me first I would love to talk, but I would not just smile at someone I do not know. Hope this helps you understand, it is very disheartening to hear you say that as I also attend UCSD. Many other international students I have met are kind and are always happy to share more about their culture. I have learned so much about other asian countries while at UCSD, and I am already from Asia! idk if it would make you feel better, but I have found it more difficult to connect with white students here. (not without lack of trying) I think because of culture, and also interest differences. (I have not met one white student interested in playing badminton yet lol)
Don't worry kid, you're gonna be fine. UCSD is one of the best school in the US. you're very lucky to get accepted, it's very competitive school.
It doesn't matter which school you're enrolling. It takes sacrifice to excel. My son just graduated this past summer at UCSD in Electrical Engineering and he was accepted back in UCSD to pursue his master.
Your video was really insightful up until you made a comment about Asians being more closed off, it comes off as very insensitive and racist. You're feeding into a prejudiced mindset about those ethnicities and honestly it's quite disheartening whether you intended or not.
@@salinaskiwi Hi Salina. Thank you for your comment. I didn’t mean to offend you or mean to be racist. I only wanted to point out that UCSD lacks diversity as 60% of its students are Asian. I’m not going to lie about my experience at UCSD. From MY experience, it was the hardest for me to connect with Asians. They never made the effort to smile, say hi, acknowledge my presence, etc. I have Asians friends & have met amazing people who are Asian. However, the interactions I had with Asians at UCSD were not the best. Next time, I will explain myself in a way that doesn’t sound insensitive.
@@claireisabella9572 You do realize though that with your choice of language you are generalizing a whole population of people though right? I just hope that you'll be a little more understanding of people from different cultures, especially international students. Imagine going into a different country, it's scary-- but you're going to judge them because you found Asian students from UCSD hard to connect with? It's tone deaf to group a bunch of people together, and you're closing yourself off from potentially making new friends, or getting to know amazing people. As someone else commented on your video, maybe approach them and ask what their hobby is? Give people a chance. Language is powerful, use your platform for good.
Thank you. I appreciate this video.
did that same cc also offer math 10a or only 10b and 10c
Thank you for your insights. Your experience is very similar to my daughter's at another University. My daughter is Asian and at her school Asians make up less than 20% of student populations. She is very social, like meeting people, smart, funny and like getting involve with the school spirit as well. She put herself out there to make new friends joining clubs and school events but the ppl at her school just don'r give her back the same energy. She reached out to classmates to study and do thngs but they are not looking for new friends. She has a few friends, but the experience has taken a toll on her as her as well. This is her 2nd year at this university but she is thinking of transferring to a different university next Fall. She is considering UCSD since it had accepted her from high school, but she declined. Your video is very helpful. Stay positive and I hope your experience at UCSD will get better.
If you study international business, but later on want more of a domestic role? Is this still possible? Or will most companies force you to travel?
Hi! May I ask? Been really curious about this for a long time. Do communities college name matters to the UC when it’s come to transfer? Like if I want to go to UCSD, Is there any specific CC that will get consideration? I heard that some UC will not consider you if you’re from outside state CC😅 Thank you so much! I love you❤ And Thanks for sharing your knowledge in this video too!
just found out.. UCSD Don't have Business major.. Econ?
Hey, I hope you’re doing well and having/had fun on your trip! I’m an incoming transfer student at UCSD. Congrats on graduating! Thank you for being so vulnerable with us and sharing your experience. Sending you a lot of love and happiness! You got this! 💞
@@Grapefruit000 thank you! & of course. I wish I could help all the incoming transfers @ucsd
UC Berkeley actually is on the semester system and UC Merced is switching to it in the next few years.
Amen
Great video! :) So would a 10-series class work well with a semester base academic calendar?
My university is on the latter but I was wondering if I could look into a community college for the former.
Which sorority did you join at UCSD, and what would you say your personality is like? I'm a bit scared about going to UCSD this fall as a transfer. 🙁
@@Grapefruit000 hi! I was in kappa kappa gamma (KKG). I would consider myself an extrovert. I like meeting new people & being out & about. Don’t be scared! Just be prepared. You will need to put yourself out there bc a lot of people there are to themselves. You got this. Be yourself & you’ll find your people :)
Your struggles are a mix of several factors. In general terms, UCSD attracts a more introverted, science career oriented crowd. Transfers at all UCs complain about the same things. A lot of friend groups form during freshman year in the dorms. This is just a fact. By the time they get to their Junior year, they are just happy to keep their circle going. Not that they are not accepting of transfers, it’s just that they don’t need to go out of their way to meet new people because they already have a social group. Regardless of where you go, you do have to put yourself out there. This takes time and effort that most transfers don’t have because they are just trying to keep their heads above water adjusting to the quarter system.

super helpful video, thank you! i appreciate that you showed the amenities as well.
@@kum5070 you’re welcome!
Hey!! Do you think its doable to double major in international business and business economics?
Are you coming in as a freshman or transfer student? It’s definitely doable in general but probably easier to finish on time if you’re coming in as a freshman
Interesting……I don’t pay tuition at any universities I have been admitted to. The UCs costs me about 12k/yr, and USC is 19k, my parents are low income and they really pushed me to USC because of the “opportunities” and “connection”. USC is the easy school for rich students who are not particularly studious (means grading would be easier), but that is a plus factor because I’m not particularly gifted in the first place. UCSD has great education and I’d say it has a superior academic atmosphere than let’s say USC.
Hey, love your video lol. I also go to UCSD too. I can totally relate to from what you went through here. Going into my 3 year I believe that the school spirt was very depressing was because with so much protest and violence that happen. It made a lot of people feel upset such as sun god being cancel 😭 I hope that next year it could get better. What your insta?! Would love to make connection :)
It will get better! Just gotta stay positive. My insta is @clairrebella :)
girl with what you said about asians, it’s sounding like you’ve never even actually talked to them? maybe ask someone what their hobby is? and it’s sounding like you’re just assuming they feel some type of way to you because of how they appear and not actually what they’ve done or said. and this is really just chalked up to cultural differences. especially international students, imagine going to a whole new country and culture 😭 it’s hard and scary, someone’s shyness or quietness doesn’t make someone rude or not like you
Yeah the comments about Asians sounds a little ignorant... and racist... lol.
Yes! This is what I’m doing and I somehow figured it out myself my freshman year. I went to a title 1 high school in San Diego and was not prepared for calc at all and was nervous coming into ucsd, but I figured this out, I have it at sdcc as well over the summer.
UCSD Business major VS USC Marshall school of business (?)..... USC
omg I’m also thinking about taking international business at UCSD!! We should be friends :)
If you have any questions or need some advice, don’t hesitate to ask!
I just got accepted at UCSD and I’m so nervous about the Asian exclusivity, it’s only 11.8% white people hahahah. I heard they don’t necessarily interact with white people and are kinda rude. Also want to make lots of friends. Sad to hear;(
That was my experience here but doesn't mean that will be yours! I think I came in with the idea that everything was going to fall into place which made things a bit harder. You just have to put yourself out there and focus on your goals. That's when you radiate the most.
Hi! I am a transfer student and my major will be international business, but I have been considering switching to business economics or even pursuing both majors. However, I understand that the IB requires a lot of work and I wonder if it will take me longer to complete if I decide to take both degrees. Any ideas? Thanks for sharing
I think double majoring might be pushing it a little. Maybe consider a minor instead as you only need an extra 6-7 classes. If I had to choose one, I would say IB bc I’m not a fan of Econ.
I got accepted into UCSD. Sad about the whole Asian exclusivity thing. I'm Filipino and Korean and i'd definitely at least ask you for your number haha
Haha im flattered. I think as a freshman, you'll definitely find your place and make good friends by junior year, but as a transfer it's a tad bit harder.
@@claireisabella9572 Yeah i'm a transfer, I'm kind of split between UCSD and UCSB since I hear social life there is a lot better. I only have a week left to choose so i'm looking up what everyone's experiences are lol

You're so welcome!

Hahah thx Max :)
I'm sorry that UCSD wasn't all that you hoped for by ty for sharing your perspective. I'm transferring this fall but I'm struggling between choosing between UCLA for business econ and UCSD for international business. I've heard that UCLA's program is not really business oriented and is more a stepping stone for those planning to go to grad school. Would you mind sharing your perspective on the academics at UCSD? Ik that its more tech focused but would you say that it's prepared you for going into a business career? Thanks!
Of course! I just want to share to help any students who are in between schools. Regarding the academics, I feel that the material we learn is useful & necessary, but they kind of just throw a ton of information at you. To me, it felt like I was learning a bunch of terms/concepts but never really learning how to apply them. They expect you to know how to apply them on exams. It kind of feels like you’re teaching yourself but the information is important to learn. On the other hand, Econ is a whole other ball game. It is definitely more math/calculation based if you like that stuff. Hope this helped!
You got two great assets. All colleges should want you.
Appreciate your insight!❤❤I am a currently admitted transfer as well and hope to learn about about your experience.
Best of luck!
Honestly, I also feel the same way. I’m finishing up my first year at Cal Poly Pomona, and have been thinking about transferring due to the lack of social life since it’s a commuter school and the broken facilities. Two classes I’m attending have no AC😢. I was thinking of going to UCSD, for these very reasons. But, as an aerospace engineer, I feel like CPP will be fit for me, and joining clubs is something many people in UCSD or CPP should do, to build that social life. There is also no party life or large social scene here too. I hope you can get over the regret as I am right now for not choosing UCSD, and thank you for sharing your story :). Given all of this, do you think I would gain anything substantial by transferring to UCSD or another college?
Of course! It’s always nice to hear other people’s stories. We just have to keep a positive mindset & move forward! The choice is really up to you. You really need to think about all the pros and cons. UCSD is a really good school academically especially if you’re a stem major. We are just 5 min away from the beach. And the city is so beautiful. If you don’t mind how socially dead it is here, I think it might be a good choice. We all find our place.
Thank you so much for making this video! I just committed to UCSD for the fall as a transfer student from a CC, and it's so helpful to hear your perspective as another CC student. What was your major btw?
Congrats! I’m glad it was helpful. I’m an international business major.
hi!! i've been struggling to decide between ucsd and uc berkeley and i've been mainly looking into living and i know ucsd has guaranteed housing for transfers which is a huge factor for me but i haven't been able to find a lot of information on housing for transfers because a lot of it seems outdated? do transfer students get any kind of room selection or application for any kind of priority between the pepper canyon/rita apartments or roommate requests or is it just assigned by random? i just want to know what my chances of getting a single would be because the rita mini doubles look so tightly packed 😵💫
Hi! Honestly there's no chance of you getting a single and you should go to Berkeley
Bruh Im literally in the same situation cuz Berkeley only offers one year and the likelihood of getting a single is slim unless u choose one of the apartments which are the most expensive
@@gengen4799 yeah i've looked into it a LOT and still haven't committed to one yet but i'm really heavily leaning towards ucsd because of how much more secure i'd feel choosing it, location and living condition-wise. honestly most people on the internet have not been super helpful so if you have any friends who attend the unis you're deciding between, that has personally been the most helpful source of information for me. if not i'd be glad to try and help ^^
I am here over the same exact predicament. UCSD or UC Berkeley. I went on a ucsd tour yesterday but the campus is so big I didn’t get the whole experience. For me housing is important, also I’m a non traditional/re-entry student who will also be working full time remote. Kind of leaning towards ucsd because of the guaranteed 2 year housing.
Oo that's a tough one. Since singles are limited, I don't think there is a guarantee. I do think the earlier you put a request in, the better. When applying for housing, there is any option for single, double, or mini double which I believe is on a first come, first serve basis. Obviously singles are the most expensive but absolutely worth it considering how small the rooms are.
UC system does the college within the college. I have 2 kids in the UC system and they are assigned to a college. My oldest is a junior at UCSD. If you’re STEM go to Warren. If you’re artsy or humanities, don’t do Warren or Muir. Seventh is easy. You’re required to take 2 SYN classes. They’re writing classes based on the theme of your college. Every college is required to do these college specific classes. If you want a quieter experience go to Seventh. It has the best ocean views right from the dorms. Beautiful. UCSD is the best UC school imo. Sixth is the hub of the campus.
You know your colleges well!
Only two UC campuses have the residential college system. One is UCSD, the other one is UC Santa Cruz. The rest of the UC campuses do not have residential college systems.
hey just watched your intro do ucsd video and it really , appreciate you taking time to give advice to us who are newly coming in
Of course!
Hi! Is Rita Atkinson the dorm all transfer students live at? Or can they live in other colleges?
Hi! There are a few places you can live at. Rita is considered the newest & most updated housing for transfers. There is also Pepper Canyon & Matthews apartments. Transfers aren’t given the option to live in their specific college.
Also sucks how ucsd does not upgrade their student facilities considering how big the school is now / student population.
The whole school is under construction right now! By 2025, many things will be updated & there will be so much more on campus housing.
I’m also a transfer at ucsd. Definitely wish I got into ucla , being secluded at Rita definitely doesn’t help.
UCSD is secluded in general but yes, Rita is even more secluded LOL
How's UCSD like?
Definitely not what I expected. The culture isn't great but it's a great school for people wanting to do engineering, CS, go to med school ... anything STEM pretty much.
Thank you mamacita for this tour, very informative and very well filmed. Please make a gym tour video😚
Okay, I lived in Hawaii and when I moved there I was thinking, “okay cool! I’ll meet local Polynesians/native Hawaiians!”.. Everyone says, “Hawaii is the MOST diverse state.” Bro, I get there and it’s just different flavors of ASAIN. Like local “Hawaiians” are probably the smallest population group. Different shades of the same ice cream is not real diversity man! 😂 To your point about “diversity” at UCSD and if you don’t look like them.. smh I’m not there yet but you are speaking FACTS!
