West Branch White River Restoration Phase 1 One Year Later
This is so heart warming to see! We have been devastated yet again here in Huntington. Sure would like to talk to all that made this restoration possible. Here is a fly over of the Lower Village and our property and adjacent corn field. ua-cam.com/video/2pGCZEJLPrY/v-deo.html&lc=UgzpO2YRE3WXAM0FH0F4AaABAg

I have a tree with no leaves in the past 5 years 😮😮😮
We’ve had a lot of those up here in Maine ever since I was a kid, we called them chip lifters because they’ll pick up chips at the mill
Can you put buckthorn seeds in a bird feeder to feed the birds?
I seen one once while I was working, it looked like it was painted
This was posted seven years ago, you should do an update video to show how it looks now.
beautiful video, thank you !
This video would make a good, Across the fence program.
How is the fishing today?
This is a wonderful video of a truly Historic New England river! Enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you!
Excellent and very informative video. Thank you.
Wait.. All of these are what beaver do, all the time, for free...
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great. Thx for yiur hard work.
using heavy machinery instead of using beavers is the most americna thing ever.
I was glad to hear that you plant black willow trees as part of this project. Do you also plant another river tree like Eastern Cottonwood and Water Elm? River trees provide up to 80 % of the food that the aquatic inhabitants need in a stream or river.
2021. Juntos podemos. Ahora no hay equilibrio en el planeta. Juntos podemos.
The Kratt brothers have first informed me of these strange insects that are invading our trees. One time in my mom’s neighborhood, I detected some trees with the tiny holes that these beetles made, and thus the trees looked dead. I told my sister about it, but she dismissed it as just an act of nature; sure termites chip away at wood, but not like this. Just now though, I saw a tree just outside my house, it looks even worse: the bark is practically peeling off, although I didn’t quite see the same kinds of holes, but I heard another invasive species was buzzing about.
Nice combinations or rip-rap and large woody debris. Personally like V-Weirs for in-channel structure. Think you went way overboard with the rootwad placement. Could have utilized them more to increase sinuousity. Not how I'd designed it But hey, if it works? Good!
✌️✌️✌️👍👍👍🇭🇷🇭🇷
Good stuff. You should do an update video and show how it looks now, maybe do an electro shock of this section and show us what's in it.
excellent, thank you so much!
My family has an ancestral land, and we used to go to its woods. When we were kids, we often encounter this kind of beetle and are cautious when handling it because its mandibles are sharp enough to inflict shallow laceration on your skin.
You might just want to smash them if they are killing so many trees
Could beavers have done the job cheaper?
Nope. So far gone by manipulating by man that these treatments are needed
They are killing tons of trees in Worcester, MA. Quite disturbing to see 80 foot tall trees with absolutely no leaves on them. They completely kill the trees.
What structure helps them bite through the trees though? Do they have really sharp teeth or something?
@@jesusisdeadnot true- almost every tree left to ALB will eventually die.
@anunripecantaloupe340 no it won't. You are thinking of EAB. Exit holes heal and ALB spreads. Eventually, every tree dies without the beetle. That was a poorly worded statement. If the USDA finds out there's ALB in the tree they kill it not the beetle. ALB does not girdle trees. Heavy infestations can kill the tree but those aren't common. You think a few small holes will kill a tree? Haha no. Trees are much more resilient than that. Exit holes completely heal.
@@jesusisdead as someone who Is heavily engaged in programs regarding BOTH of those invasive insects, I can confidently say you are wrong on most of that. Cheers and feel free to reach out if you want some better info!
@anunripecantaloupe340 Read some literature. ALB doesn't typically kill trees. It could cause a tree to become infected but in almost all cases it doesn't kill the tree. It puts blemishes in the wood. Its about perfect wood and not about the beetle killing trees. This is why they are chopping down all the trees in Worcester. Yeah, you obviously don't know anything. Do you know the USDA labeled the ALB program an eradication program knowing its impossible to eradicate the beetle? Do you know that the beetle is established well outside of the quarantine zones around Worcester and the program knows it. Emerald ash borer is much worse than ALB because of its feeding habits.
Only a fool would think that cutting down trees to create a river bed is a good idea.
Obviously you’re a fish biologist......🤦♂️🖕. Idiot.
You are the fool. Been doing this for 25+ years and it works EVERY TIME!
And you would have done?
This is really informational and had helped a lot in research for a school project!
The yellow root part can be cut up and soaked 100 proof vodka for 6weeks. It is a natural anti bacterial medicine and is said to cure stomach problems and strip throat. See a doctor and do your own research before trying. Just a FYI
My dad found one, trapped it in a pill bottle to show off to our family, then he left it in the car in the dead of summer overnight and it died
Get Bernie on the case!!!
I found one just now and was scared asf
Really interesting and nice scenery
thank you for your service
This was very interesting
Always the war metaphor. Wrong. These exotic species are thriving because we have created the conditions for them to. We run around with bulldozers and plows, pesticides and fertilizers etc. Our paleolithic ancestors ran around with Clovis points. The ecosystem is full of holes, is full of opportunities for pioneer species and species that can slurp up excess nutrients. This is not a evil thing. Its nature trying to make lemonade out of our lemons. We need to stop blaming the exotic species and figure out what they are telling us about how we are effecting the environment.
Yo who else here for mrs morgan
I'm amazed that the TS Irene restoration didn't get managed to provide this kind of outcome. We obviously missed a great opportunity when the rivers were all torn up. Perhaps we should have left the scour condition and storm debris as Irene left it and just rebuilt our infrastructure to the new rivers. Of course I say this not just as a civil engineer, but also as a fly fisherman.
Thanks for the video. I've seen a few in local woods scattered and now I think I'll try to remove them and keep a close eye out.

This is a really great video. I appreciate you taking the time to do something like this.
