Try slicing it with Archimedean on the top layer. Way better for objects that are circular
I've just started filament printing, and this tip is exactly what I've been looking for 😃
thank you
flip it over, face down.... use a smooth heatbed
Monotonic simply means the head is traveling in the same direction for each extrusion move. It is interesting that Cura does this more orderly but that isn't a requirement for monotonic. Good video, I think I need this clock for my theater.
I use PLA+ and the down face is as smooth as a whistle when I use my smooth bed, or has a nice random pattern if I use my patterned bed. My guess is you need to set your extruder temperature slightly higher.
i think, there are some improvements. try min. 4 top layers, because the infill is peaking through. put it upside down, like you did, lower the Z a half layerheigh, put a 0.3 bottom layer with 105 to 110 extrusion. is it possible, that you dont have a abl ? because of the big heigh differenzes. i use 4 bottom and 5 top layer to vanish the infill peak through and enough stability its a great idea
gaps between extrusions on the first layer is something to rectify. Either your z offset is not right, or your extrusion rate is not right. With a perfect first layer, the bottom will pretty much always look better than the top, even with all the settings you used.
I think you would benefit from using Orca slicer, an ABL decice to create a mesh before each print, and a PEY hologram sheet to print it upside down amd give the clock face a holographuc surface. Orca slicer has a lot of great calibration tools that are filamemt and machine specific. You can create a one layer print to perfect your Z offset value prior to running all the calibration prints
honestly it looks like you have some under extrusion going on, especially on the bottom layer example.
The only thing I would do different is, to print small test pieces, instead of waisting time and material of full prints.
lowkey you should make some more and try selling them those are fire
Great video what printer are you using
Thank you! I'm using an Ender 3 Max Neo
Thanks for the Useful Tip this might help with My ABS prints lifting slightly at the corners
I'd be interested to know if it helps with your ABS prints. I have not printed ABS myself.
Hey boss so im having an issue maybe you can help with. I basically am having issues with the bed temp ive been keeping it at 50 and the nozzle temp at 220 with the z at -1.87. The issue is that some prints have been printing just fine but others wont get the first layer down right or if they do it starts getting like straight spaghetti. I think I’ve narrowed it down to bed temps but I have no idea. It printed very well once and then the next time i couldnt get the first layer down i started using elmers glue and that seems to help but then the first layer will be separated by gaps
Is it PLA? Try 60 and 200. It also sounds like your first layer is too high. There is no right number to tell you for the z-level, you need to see where it's at. The filament needs to slightly smash down on the bed. Watch my video on bed leveling, and that should help you too.
@@VaderDadBuilds sounds good boss i tried the auto leveling and i tried doing the paper method but it didnt work and yes it was pla sir. Ive also tried putting the Z nozzle while it’s printing higher and lower, but the only difference I can notice was that when I changed it its height up or down it would still get dragged in the corners
That’s so creative lmaooo
Thank you!
Not to be rude or anything and this is someone who doesn't know a lot about Star wars but isn't the helmet supposed to be black?
Hes in disguise
lol ha ha ha "vader dad" ? ok so why don't you print it life size ?
Lol, that might take some time.
To-The-Point!
My suggestion for both cost and retaining detail is do a quick initial sand, then use a sandable primer, but in only a few light coats. Then sand the primer down. Then use the Bondo as intended and only use it to fill deeper lines. Then sand and do another sandable primer. This is way less expensive and you don't run the risk of filling in detail or changing the form of the print. It also reduces weight. If you're going to use Bondo as a filler like this, I recommend thinning it with Acetone. It goes on a lot smoother and you don't get buildup that you have to spend hours sanding. Finally, I never sand my Bondo dry... only wet. The amount of dust created is nasty.
Interesting. I'll give that a shot on another build.
What's better than plastic garbage? MORE plastic garbage! Scale it up so you can burn more electricity printing out more plastic garbage to throw away!
This is such a cool set!
I was thinking about the eact same thing while watching your video. No only the model scales, but also the tollerances. Still trying to think of a way to mitigate that problem
Yea, it still fit ok, but it definitely needed the glue to hold it together.
@@VaderDadBuilds I printed it the normal size, still fits way too loose 🤣 maybe my printer is to precise haha
I use loctite super glue and mitre apel accelerator i use j-b weld plastic bonder to fill in seams and gaps . I ,ve been resin 3d printing for about 4 years l use the peopoly forge printer because like you i want my statues large as possible. I really love 3d printing you put the effort and work in and get beautiful statues as a result.....
That's awesome! I'd like to try resin printing at some point too.
I have found it a lot easier to use files and hobby scrapers on PLA than sanding. Sweet video!
Thank you!
@@VaderDadBuilds I've had decent success with a scotch-brite wheel on a rotary tool, but I tend to use it more for finishing, and carefully, as too much heat and it'll melt
Hi there ! We greatly appreciate your video content and are interested in collaborating with you. We would like to inquire if you would consider sponsorship for your videos? Pls let us know the best way to get in touch if you are interested. Thank you! - Sienna from PCBWay
3D gloop would be perfect for this. It chemically welds the parts without being so toxic like acetone.
I had printed the Pit Droid kit card and decided it was to small. I took each part and scaled it 600%. It's the size of a toddler now. I'm loving it
That's awesome!
Is the milk sweet?
Yes, it's vanilla flavored
Pretty much all slicers allow you to separate combined objects that are physically sepaate into separate objects in the context menu.
At the larger scale, you could take the one sided fins, print them at half thickness twice, one being mirrored, and then glue them together so there are greeblies on both sides
Dang! Great idea! Wish I thought of that.
Wow , the timing is impeccable, just went to a anime con cosplaying has a scout trooper, not as good as that helmet but still fun
Sounds fun! Did you 3D print yours too?
Awesome video! Make more like this :)
Thank you! Got more lined up.
OMG the luxery to choose what glue to use. Here in New Zealand you use what they sell.
Hopefully, the one they sell there works. 😀
Talk to Mulford plastics or PSP, Im a plastic fabricator and can luckily get allsorts of glues(well solvents to be honest) try to get weldon #16 as its great for PLA, and could try any of the solvents that work for acrylics as they are organic polymers
I like to print everything in ABS. You can chemically weld the parts together with some acetone, which makes a ridiculously strong bond
Nice! I haven't tried ABS.
Definitely! Print your plastic garbage in an even more toxic form of plastic...especially toys and trinkets destined for oceans and landfills!
I would go with a 2 part CA glue, it's so strong, awesome video though
Thanks! I'll try that one out.
yooooo i have the same printer
Nice! How do you like yours so far?
awesome!
Thank you!
Thank you so much! Fixed the issue for me complitely, but it works too well...
Thank you. Great tute. How long did this take to print? Also instead of putty can you build up the smooth surface with more coats of primer?
Thank you! It was about 120 hours of printing time. Just using the primer should work, but that would take a lot of passes to get rid of the layer lines. The putty will save you lots of time with 1 pass.
@@VaderDadBuilds thank you so much for the quick reply.
This is so cool
Thank you! And thank you for watching!
I heard a rumor it tastes like chicken?
It's more porg than chicken.
Hmm alright sound like my type of drink
What does it taste like
I'd say it tastes like a melted vanilla shake.
@@VaderDadBuilds thanks brother. May the 4th be with you

good comedy!
