Thank you! I'm new to Inkscape and was having trouble understanding this. The thing I was missing was the distinction between the outer and inner folders that get created for a clip group.

Excellent work. But i don't know how i feel about that x-ray tool. If it were me i would just turn opacity down as needed and then back up when I'm done.

Yes, so I tried this and it worked. My problem is the same with what I really want to use the pattern effect for, I aim to pattern a picture I pasted from PowerPoint into Inkscape (which is possible and does not incur difficulties). I first make sure this object is turned into a path from the setup menu. Then I copy it. Yet when I ad the path effect and select pattern copies: repeated and stretched and pattern source: link to path in clipboard: I cannot see the end result of a generated produced pattern, I cannot see any computer work? Why?

I keep failing at putting diamond shapes I constructed on a path using the method you teach here and the method of using Pattern on Path from the Extension- generate from path -pattern on path menu. However, I have succeeded in getting a square or circle on the path. What do think is happening.

Good info and nice to see the whole process :) 👍 . A bit slow when I was looking for how to do certain parts. Also, please have similar loudness on the music and the speech. edit. Also, I just learned that you can hold down Alt and drag to select all objects that the drag hits.

this for the life of me wont work with my custom pattern, it becomes really skewed or wont do anything at all, any ideas what might be happening?

Great! You always learn something watching others. While I already knew the clip group feature, I wasn't aware of the little layer and groups selector in the lower bar-very helpful. I subscribed your channel. For those who didn't know: Ctrl + Alt + V is the shortcut for pasting a copied object on its original position. It also works outside of clip groups and I use it a lot when working with normal groups.
