TINY CABIN Skirting & Steps DIY MAKEOVER
I need to come up with some ideas for cabin skirting and DIY cabin steps. After cladding my cabin last year I now need to finish covering the ugly concrete pillars and replace the rotting steps with something more attractive. I'm amazed how well it turned out despite having an accident during the build.
If you are looking for siding, cladding, skirting or steps ideas I hope you will enjoy this build.

I'm building an bathroom in my Off grid cabin in rural France. There will be a sink, shower and composting toilet. So far I've been using an outside shower and outhouse loo, so having facilities inside will be an amazing upgrade particularly as the winter months approach. The space is tight so I'll be building fitted furniture to maximise the space while working on a natural style 'hand crafted...

Wow makes it look so chic and finishen ❤ keep up the great Job!!!!!!!😊
Great job. Please stop playing music when you speak. So very distracting and unnecessary.
Ok thanks for the feedback its helpful 👍
Oh... sorry you got hurt! Glad it wasn't serious, take care! The skirting looks great, makes the whole cabin look finished and even more posh 😁 And I'd also be thrilled if a bird choose my rail as a good landing and chilling spot. Nice to hear you play, by the way 😊
Thanks yes I'm very happy its done because this week we had snow 🥶 thank you for watching and your continued support ❣️
I love the simplicity and special gifts you have received from friends that you have decorated your rooms with. You are right in that the beautiful nature around you is the vista you are presenting. I can only imagine lying in your bed with the window open looking and listening to nature's orchestra. You truly should be proud at what you have accomplished so far.❤❤³
Thank you very much for your very kind words. The bedroom is a very relaxing spot. I'm a very active person and that little corner is perfect for just being calm for a bit. 🌳🌲🌿
Hi Katy I live in Queensland Australia and I recently found your channel and have been going through your videos. Your homes location is just beautiful and I love all the improvements you have done to your home. The ballister is excellent because it doesn't obstruct your view and compliments the cabin. You are doing a great job and the journey is just as important as the destination I feel. I believe you never quite finish finding projects on your homestead because it continually shows how much you love your environment and your home and they love you back. Cheers from Aussie 👍
Thank you so much for watching the other videos that's great if you are enjoying them. I try to improve making the videos and over time hopefully the quality will continue to get better. I am very lucky to have such a lovely spot and I have many more ideas of improvements to make on the land and the cabin. Do you have a project that you are working on or an idea of something you would like to do?
Just found your videos , noticed your dog on a chain hope it's not on the chain all the time. As I don't see your dog around .
Hi Rose no its not my dog. There are two livestock guardian dogs that live with the sheep in the field and move around with them when they change fields. They sometimes pop to say hello. When unattended they are attached to avoid to wandering onto the road. I am very fond of both of them and they receive lots of attention and cuddles from us and I walk them as well when I can. I have two 'freeroaming' chihuahuas that are barely motivated to leave their beds and I love walking! One is 17.5 and very skinny and blind and deaf due to her old age and the other is 10 and a bit overweight but well and happy but very lazy. Do you have a dog?
Très joli résultat
Merci beaucoup d'avoir regardé 👍
❤😊❤😊❤😊 I’m so sorry you got hurt and I pray for a complete recovery. As always I loved what you did!!!!Beautiful!!!
Thanks Allie I am feeling a lot better now. Glad you like the result it looks so much better now its all clean and tidy
What a difference the skirting has made! Looks great.
Thanks Carly glad you like it. Just getting rid of the mess has also made a big difference.
The skirting looks great💥
Thanks Sylvia I appreciate your encouragement 👍
Love your vids, especially as my 2 passions are woodworking and france! Just a nice easy watch all the time and is fantastic to see your progress! Lovely spot you have there too.... Ryan 👍
Thanks! Glad you enjoy them that's really great I enjoy making them. I am getting more into woodworking the more that I do I improve my skills but I'm missing several bits of kit like a rail saw and a decent workbench/shop... which would help with the forthcoming kitchen and fitted wardrobe builds. And all the jigs to make holes for dowels and clamps and and and.... 🙄 In the future I'd like to do a basic cabinet making course.
Which area in France do you like?
@katybuilds It's nice you enjoy making them 👍 Yep they are massive time savers the rails saws, and having the right tools defo does make the job easier. But you are doing an impressive job! Loving your work ☺️
@katybuilds if I am honest, I mainly ride through from calais in my motorbike so I havnet been past a few hundred miles from there. But just love the culture, the people, language etc ☺️
Hi Katy… I really enjoy your channel! I’m hoping your injuries aren’t severe… sit in the sun and look out at your beautiful views while you heal. All the best… Karen of NYC
I'm feeling better now it took two weeks for my ribs to heal but I'm doing good now. Now I'm planning the kitchen so taking a rest to research which is very enjoyable. Thanks for your support and encourgement 🙏
Looks very nice all of it. Good job.
Thanks for watching as always ❣️
Et voilà! Nice cladding and stairs! Cosy little space to chill or play music! Sorry you got hurt; the same thing happened to me with wobbly stairs that fell and me with them! ( I found that the bruises took so long to heal!)
Et puis voilà. Sorry to hear that you hurt yourself 😭 infeel better now but still bruises 🙄 but happy not to have broken anything
@@katybuilds Yes, as you said it's risky when you are by yourself!
Absolutely lovely!
Yes, I was just thinking, I had made a door so I could store materials etc... under the cabin and you did thatI liked your first option too, but as you said, that would have taken a longer time, but I have a neighbor building a lot of those thinner boards and it look very nice. But your choice went out very nice also with that colorOuch, it could have gone really bad when you fall, so I am glad it went better then it could. You are really a good builder I must say!!
Thank you yes I am feeling better now and happy with the results. Yes the storage is really useful but it was also good to clean underneath and get rid of the mess. Thank you for your nice comments and for following the build for such a long time already 👍
Bravo Kate, le finish est magnifique, trop forte, 🎉
Merci 😘 je suis ravie avec le progrès maintenant j'ai besoin de chauffage 🥶
Looking good. 😊😊
Thank you! I enjoyed seeing the progress of the sliding it makes a big difference to arrive and see a nice clean space around the cabin. Do you have a project that you are working on or would like to do?
No. To old now but in next life will know all tips on building to cooking. lol. 😝
Where is the DJ booth going to go?
I am thinking about converting the A frame wood shed into a DJBooth / guest house...but this will be after the cabin is finished, maybe next summer 😉
Amazing!! I just found your channel. ❤️ Do you have building experience? How do you secure for winter? This is absolutely brilliant.
Thanks! I was daydreaming about building another summer kitchen today... Such a fun project 💞
This was so enjoyable to watch 🤎 Interesting and relaxing! Supporting you from the UK as a fellow UA-camr, hoping to grow like you! 🥰
Great just keep going! I'm still learning so much and still a micro channel...It took just one of my videos to do really well to get things growing more consistently. But ultimately you're being creative in making the videos which brings its own rewards. Beautiful wreath! I just subscribed 👍
Kudos to you Katy! If there’s one thing I could not tolerate living off grid its a flushing “go somewhere else far away” functioning toilet!!! Good to see you, even if it is a short!!! Karen NYC
Hi Karen 👋 In my job selling houses I have to inspect septic tanks and I am not a fan at all of the setup. So let's try composting and see if it can work. Hope you are good bet NY is crazy today with the elections
@ OK, well if there is one thing I detest even more than toilets its our newly elected, convicted felon for President.
How big is the entire cabin? I really really wish to know. Uve done a wonderful job katy. I always enjoy ur videos
@@MENDEfoodforest Hi! The cabin is 6.5 meters long by 4 meters wide so around 26 m2/ 280sqft. The front room is larger maybe 15 m2 and the back is 10m2. The terrace adds a feeling of extra space. I'll soon be finishing building the entrance steps and start working on the kitchen and wood burner...lots more to come thank you very much for watching I really appreciated it ❣️
I don't like the color gray because my wood turns gray if I just let it sit out in the sun.
Amazing ❤
Damn
Bathroom turned out awesome. I definitely need to figure out plumbing on mine. Great video and look forward to more!
Thanks ! I need tool storage now 😉
@@katybuildssame 😂
Very nice. You made such great choices. The sink is a true piece of art. I think the "mistake" rectangular tiles look very nice.
Hi Sandy thanks for watching yes the sink is beautiful the lady that males them has some gorgeous things. Yes in the end the rectangular tiles look good. I might reuse the leftovers in the cabin kitchen. 🤔
Looks magnificent. Well done!!
Thank you so much 😀
So glad to see you back Katy. Loved all the finishing touches, especially seeing that beautiful sink in its place. The picture on the wall above it is perfect! Looking forward to the next episode. KC from NY
Hi Karen thanks for watching... the lady that makes the sinks is so talented she has beautiful objects for sale, it makes me want to build another bathroom just looking at her shop... Yes the tiles worked out just fine, Jo did a great job tiling them and I might reuse the leftovers for the kitchen... hope all good with you x
❤😊❤😊❤😊 beautiful sink
I love scrolling the site of the lady that makes the sink... makes me want to build another bathroom she is so talented I wish I could buy all of them 😍
@@katybuilds she is very talented
It looks great💥
Thank you Sylvia I appreciate it 👍🏼
I’m so impressed ! You’ve basically built a very nice house from scratch. Bravo!!
Hi Ruth hope you are doing well.... I wasn't planning on doing so much building work at the start I was so naive but I have learned so much along the way. I also watch Maya Feliz she's renovating in Portugal and she is doing amazing things, she has three buildings to renovate I am so grateful just to have one very small one! I would like to build a wood frame house again it's a really enjoyable project.
Looks very nice. Well done. 🙂
Glad you like it thanks for watching 👍
Looks great!
Thanks Carly! I am glad you like how it turned out 👍🏼
What a fantastic job! The cabin already looks so pretty
Thanks so much! I have made some more progress recently, the bathroom is finished and now starting on the kitchen thanks for watching
Another great project, Katy! Lovely, and so well executed!
Glad you like it! thnaks for watching 😍
Oh yeah! What a luxury bathroom! Rectangular tiles are nice and all the colors match so well! Bravo! Et ce kimono, j'adore! (you look Martijn's videos too, that's funny!)
Hi Vanessa I am glad you liked the kimono I did chuckle when I put it on it was a bridesmaids gift from her wedding and its the most glamorous thing I own but hey at least for once I am not wearing dirty jeans with paint on them 😂 I am happy with how it turned out, next job is the kitchen 👍🏼
@@katybuilds Moi aussi je porte plus de "fringues de travaux" que de jolies choses, mais parfois, c'est chouette de se sentir un peu classe ;)
Loved the shots from outside the window. Happy to see more videos from the cabin build!
Hi! Oh it was funny I took the shots with the drone but it was not happy hovering so close to the cabin so it moves around a lot (like a peeping Tom 😂) The cabin is so small inside and a bit dark with all the rainy days that we had recently so I have to really be creative to share the feeling of the space. I'll try the same thing with the kitchen shots I think, I am starting to plan the kitchen now. Thanks for watching and see you again soon 👍🏼
Nice to see you back and with a great new project
Hi Wolfgang, yes the summer pressure of my jobs has calmed down and I am really enjoying being back at the cabin. I am looking forward to finishing the outside and building the kitchen. Hope all good with you?
@@katybuilds Thought as much ... all as good as can be here
Hello Katy, wow, you have done more structure work then I was thinking, you have done a LOT more then I have realized too, no wonder you need to take some time off. What you have done is very well done too. what a porch shower and that electric cupboard looked porch too Love that green sink and your taste for decor. Do you have the water-source close? 💖💫
Hi ! Yes even for me making the video clips I feel tired just watching it all 😂 But if you keep doing a little bit every day its amazing what you can do I have really learned a LOT. The shower is so luxurious and its quite spacious even though its a small space. Yes the electrical box is beautiful I bought the nice cover to make it less ugly and I think it looks great. So the water comes from the town supply. It is located behind the cabin and all the pipes need to be dug into the ground. I have tried to find a company to come and do this before the winter but I am struggling to find anyone, I am too scared to rent a digging machine! The weather here is so rainy this year no one wants to dig anything because it gets muddy so quickly. I really hope to complete the water pipe installation before the end of the year otherwise it will have to wait until the spring. Otherwise I will have to drain the water in the winter because its too cold and everything will freeze and break. One step at a time. Still lots to do. I think I will build the kitchen next.
Great job and loved the video 😘👍🏻💕💕🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Brenda thank you so much for watching. I hope to start working on the kitchen soon 👍🏼
Welcome back katy.amazing progress.you must be chuffed.all looks great.
Hi Barry it feels good to be back working on the inside of the cabin and I am going to start working on the kitchen and also the underside cladding and rebuilding the steps. And I need to install a log burner before the winter. So still lots to come. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

Is there a video that shows your completed bathroom?
Hi Lisa thanks very much for watching.. there will be a video coming out late september or october with the shower, sink and dry loo build. I'm working on it now. Had to take a break over the summer to earn some money and I started back working at the cabin last week. See again you soon. 👍
Hi Lisa I just published the cabin bathroom build 👍 ua-cam.com/video/ypiyh65X9x4/v-deo.htmlsi=7M1lTwU7OCLwZjFW
Love the bedding! I would have chosen a sage green wall paint, or cream.
Yes a dark colour would also have worked well, it would have been very cosy and highlighted the outside
Very impressive ❤
I love the way you've brought the odd furniture together by painting it. And I absolutely love those tiles! Well done
where have you been?!?
Working hard this summer to fill the coffers...I'll be back working at the cabin ASAP I'm missing it a lot 😒
