I used to live in a pre cast concrete Airey house, one of the original prototypes. The steel supports were incased in concrete but the concrete spoiled and the supports started to rust. It was well insulated though.

1:47 I'll venture a guess that this is one with the original balustrade. The shelf & cabinet, as well as the rounded edging on the walls also look to be from the 1940s.

17:00 I'm shocked to see a "glazier" on a building site as late as the 1940s. I always assumed those steel casement windows came out of the factory with the glass already sealed, and some probably did. I wonder if union rules got in the way of that in some places. The 1945 "veteran's" development in which I spent the first 5 years of my life had windows like these and pre-hung doors in steel frames, both of which were pretty common back then. It did have a wood frame and brick veneer all around though.

Very helpful ….. regarding the Leeds airy construction of the out skin as been built on a new foundation built in with concrete blocks with cavity solid stone on outer does take away all the defects The party wall in between na our is concrete blocks also is they anymore defects to sort ?

My son is looking at a concrete (including flint) panel non standard construction house. It has ECP of F in Scotland which seems appalling. Does this mean no insulation at all. Part of the roof has asbestos tiles. This is to live in, but I am worried 😟

Are these houses structurally sound. I want to buy a property and find these bisf homes are cheaper than the traditionally built brick houses. Plus lenders don't always loan on these houses. Why is that? Please can someone advise.

Thank you for this. How can you tell if a building is a Dennis Wild Steel framed house? The homebuyers survey said so but the structural engineer doesn't think so. Is there a register to find out if a property one is looking to buy is a steel framed house?

i live in a bisf house , have plasterboard on ceiling down stars - high fibre board is in ceiling upstairs. hard board is on the walls up stairs.we used toggle bolts for tv bracket .is better plasterboard on wall.i guess hard board on ceiling is better than high fibre board.as well.is a recycled plastic insulation - looks like cotton wool.
