Among my 26,000+ hrs flying (currently in command of 747) I have about 4000 + in comman of several MD80 types. Nothing 'horrible' about it and I've flown it in many different conditions and also some tight runways. Depending on the powerplant of course, it can be a very good performer and especially in the case of the MD88, the FMS package is quite good. As for 737's, they're fine aircraft too; varying pilot preferences doesn't make one or another 'horrible'.

well see and flown in the cockpit and the pilot i knew dident like them very much he wanted to get on the fleets 737-800's
do you say that due to your high level of experience as "pilot in command" of MD80 types or just out of sheer ignorance?
