What a wonderful video - youtube has really been recommending some good stuff lately. I don't think we appreciate enough how the ocean is, essentially, a desert for tetrapod life. Saltwater is undrinkable for most of us, so animals like these eiders have to search for oases of drinkable water. Not *too* hard in the Arctic, but just think of what a challenge it must be in the tropics where there are no icebergs to rely on! I read recently that sea snakes have evolved an incredible resistance to desiccation because the only time they have access to freshwater is during rainfall when it briefly piles on top of the saltwater before they eventually get mixed up and the drinkable water is gone
I hear you and I appreciate your interest and your worry for nature. We need more people like you. I feel the same. All we could do is to hope that evolution will serve these species so they survive this mass extinction. We all have a role to play and by showing and talking about how fragile the species and their habitat are, the more people will take care and help animals adapt. I am amazed at how animals thrive in hostile environments. It's a lesson for us. Thank you!
