I want to get moving to lose weight, but want to be just somewhat faster than walking. I thought about scooters, as I didn't like the idea of having to leave a bike outside, locked up, if I go into a store, but apparently scooter aren't made people that need to lose weight, but only for people that already don't have the weight.

Best board for absolute beginers is a very wide deck. The trucks or (axels) should be medium or stiff tightness. (Not loose). With big soft (GRIPPY) wheels. Tighten the nut on the wheel so the dont spin freely. That way the beginner has to make more of an effort to make motion. Gradually loosen the wheels as the user becomes more comfortable.
