Freaking Awesomeness!!!
Nice episode! Great stories!
I see you guys are entered in the MAGnificent race in NZ! I hope you have a great time here next month.
Great meeting you, congratulations on the race. I loved that you touched on all the things that happend with the short course and the 2 people doing ropes on some things.
I met Pete in Kunming, China, apparently in 2015 where I had come by hitchhiking from Southeast Asia.
Wow!
Awesome team
me howling at work: "el steepo" "el climbo" "ten kilo dropo" "el bumpo" 😆 buahahah cerviche 💞
so its a SONG and a PLACE!
This is a side of Cumbaya' that I have never seen. Cumbaya' is a very modern, almost North American town. I have close friends who live there. Close but northwest of Quito. This video is very blurry so I am sure a lot of the beautiful scenery does not show up as beautiful as it is. A great place away from the Quito traffic.
whnen you doing Canada race next year
Awesome team
Great!
That back tire wipeout is exactly what happens to me. Fearful it will happen in place like WV and fall down into the gorge. Glad he’s okay. “We said we were gonna walk and eat guys” 👏
Lots of fun listening/watching to this ramble as this was the first time I've been at the same race with your team (I introduced myself at the end when you were eating) and the first time at a Broad Run Off Road event. For team YB Normal (2-person male team, combined age 133), our goals are very different than than yours. We were one of the last teams to leave the start, but that was our plan to a get a general idea of cutoff times for us at each leg. We took the option to stop at the car, so we knew about the gravel road back into Gunston Hall. Riding back to Gunston Hall in the dark, we watched the team in front of us ride right past the gravel road. One item that didn't get mentioned was that the last map (scale 1:10,000) was printed slightly wrong. Allen did mention this at the race briefing, but using a 1:10K plotter on a map that was actually printed at ~1:9345 added an extra challenge when you are already tired.
Glad you enjoyed the podcast. Great seeing you out there Doug. Sounds like you had a good plan for the race. We bolted as soon as possible after they let us out. It was challenging doing all the nav and strategy on the fly. Luckily, on the first paddle, I was sitting up front so I could spend time visualizing the route options on the trek sections. Yep, the plotting on a ~1:10 was tough. I am glad Justin practiced prior to the race and was able to puzzle through it.
Going to Turrialba Thanksgiving week, what road were you guys on when you shot your video?
Love the underwater view during the 2nd paddle leg.
Fun to see the race from y'all's perspective. It was a beautiful day to run around in the woods!
Looked like a really fun "Short" race.
Beautiful vidéo
Their floppy mouth is funny
Increible mi sevilla❤
Courses should love it. You play faster & don't take divots. Fix your ball marks on the greens like everyone else should be doing.
Fling golf is an extremely fun game. I can break 90, never broke 100 with clubs.
I highly recommend it. I have been there twice now. Great to get some refresher time in. My daughter enjoys going with me there. Suggest going during the week when there aren't so many people.
Would that be an APPLE phone in your hand???🤭 Horses ❤🍏🍎🍏🍎

Great job team
Ive never done this hike. Going to try it this summer.
Congrats, winners! thanks for sharing your stories! :) See ya at the next race!
CP17 was great! Hard and we were thrilled when we found it!
Oh the dreaded cemetery point!!!
I always laugh when you folks start talking about how old you are. I was 50 when I did my first race, and I didn't start orienteering and mountain biking until I was 49. I'm 63 now and my teammate is 68. We've never been interested in expedition races, but we try to get in 2 to 3 12-hour races a year. Thanks for the great content, and please keep it coming.
FUN!!!
Nice job!
Thanks!
I'm convinced that route finding trumps fitness anyday, and I love that! Cerebral racing, at it's finest!!
We totally agree. The cerebral component of AR is what makes us so different than other sports.
As a longtime mountain bike racer, (solo masters), I loved the technical trail descent to the last paddling TA on the 12 hour race. It gave me a chance to make up for some of my navigational errors! Kudos to Warrior racing for staging a great race weekend. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to race the 8 hour, but the weekend was well planned, and definitely fun! Thanks for the videos team ThisAbility! I've been watching lately, and you all are helping me to refine race strategy, and letting me know that when I zigged left, I should've zigged right..... It's also nice to know that we all make mistakes that we can learn from! Keep up the good work!
Yea, we loved that part too. As you get better at AR, you start hoping for races to get harder because it gives you an advantage over less experienced teams that count on luck. Also, is it really an adventure if it isn't hard? Ha!
What a great listen!! One of my favorites is when Andrea said “we are not that team”.
miss you mom I love you
wand to inputs race
My wife and i just spent a few days with Peter near Johannesburg - it is the start of winter here and he is off this weekend further North in South Africa - still looking for warmer weather. As i commented to him when we parted, he is one of the "richest" individuals i have met with all that he has experienced.
Thanks for the shout out and asking about race strategy!
Being tall like Chip had its advantages! No packraft back tire rub

Great ramble!
Very nice!
I was travelling from Goa to Mumbai on bicycle with a group. It was December 2014. That was my first long ride of 7 days. We met Peter on that route. He was travelling from Mumbai to Goa. At the time He had travelled 19 countries. On the top tube of the frame, he had the flags of those countries. He inspired me to do something like that. I have one question, which version of Surly he owns and whats the configuration. I would love to know that. If you can, please reply.
Glad you enjoyed the video and have met Peter. He is a super cool guy. I will ask him about the Surly and let you know if get gets back to me.
Here ya go. It was a Surly Ogre with: SRAM 3 X 9 gears, 22-32-44 and 12-36. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes front and rear, Surly racks front and rear, Jones H-bar handlebars, Brooks saddle, Homemade wheels, 32 spokes front, 36 spokes rear, Shimano square tapered bottom bracket with Shimano cranks. Shimano rear hub, Supernove front dynamo hub., Hope pedals.
@@ChipDodd Great. Thank you very much.
Great job!!! Enjoyed the videos!!!
So excited for this race!
Cool video. Looks like fun!
It was!
