Steve Cherry - Tales of Blue - 1991 FA Cup Notts Co v Manchester City
Tales of Blue caught up with 1991 Notts Co keeper Steve Cherry who's inspired performance in a real old fashioned FA Cup tie during February 1991 denied City a 1/4 final spot when many blues believed our name was on the Cup. Steve has kindly shared his memories of that afternoon including an unusual match preparation under Neil Warnock, clearing the pitch of snow, his love of the FA Cup, double saves, pitch invasions, Gary Lund's winner, Tony Coton and an fantastic afternoon between the sticks.
Steve is a fantastic fella who kindly gave up his time to share some memories of football from a very different era.

Hey Lakey.......You was me early Idol 😊 but yeah I'm Loving your Tales of the Blues Part2 and I've just done a Podcast with BigSteMCFC check it out I'm Little Oggy and I do MY Own Music too Paul
Remember playing Chelsea at Wembley I was only 21 was walking down Wembley way with the lads went to the toilet and about 10 Chelsea skinheads came in it still to this day was the quickest piss I've ever had
King rodney ❤ you rsssss
Mellor and ward were immense for Brighton….hi Ian ✋
Mate was chatting to him last night at a U****** Former Players Association dinner, reckoned he’s a great bloke. Fred Eyre & Alan Ogley were there too.
Some fond memory`s of Barry with his socks around his ankles drifting past players for fun.
Quality
Bad news today. RIP .
Top fella..great keeper.
Great lad is Andy, met him a few times. One of the game's great characters! 👍
Top man
Entertaining interview .... Barry Silkman was a bit of a character, a bit different, and not a bad player, but he seemed to leave City as quickly as he'd arrived, and this video explains why .... i've never forgotten him though.
One of the best performances from Alex I saw was in 1982 season at White Hart lane v spurs he was superb that day saving everything spurs threw at him we won 2-1 it was Graham bakers debut and he got both goals .that was a really great win as spurs always seemed to beat us back in the late 70s/early80s one of our bogey teams but I loved that side from 1980/82 under John bond .CTID.1977🏴
i quite like the yellow kit, was at that game
one of the city greats
Once a Blue always a Blue CUFC
great player , i also remember he's brother also scoring some great goals one season for sheff utd
Great episode bud. Not a city fan, but had a soft spot that 80’s team David & all the other young lads played in because I was around the same age. Used to come to Manchester from Hull most weekends for shopping and nights out, acid house era. All the coolest people we’d meet were city fans & hated United more than me 😀. Read David’s book…such an honest fella.
Paul Power was my favourite City player in the 80s... I remember my Dad took me to my first game against Liverpool back in 1985 after City won promotion then I got tot see him in action.... Paul was illustrated on the front cover of the program..... City Won 1-0... my Dad supported Liverpool...
1-0 win with Clive Wilson scoring a header after Liverpool battered us all afternoon !!
Tommy is only passionate and loves ONE City, that's Coventry City FC, 355 games, 8 +yrs, 30 goals, sky blue legend, PUSB/SBA
Wishing you and yours a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year mark
This is my friends granny’s cousin
Peter Doherty, damn. What a shoutout
Imagine both of your sons make their debut against Wimbledon. Scary stuff
Brilliant vlog Mark Mccarthy and David White was a favourite player of mine I started supporting Manchester City back in 1981 and I remember him coming through with Steve redmond Ian Brightwell Paul Lake and Ian Scott and the rest so a very interesting vlog thanks Mark wishing you and yours all the best from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 mate
I was at Norwich when he broke his ankle, a group of us stayed the weekend and went out to a nightclub after the match and ran into the Norwich player who did it (can't remember his name) he totally panicked after being cornered by a drunk group of City fans grilling him on breaking Jeff's ankle! He said he'd just been to the hospital to visit Jeff and apologised to him and everything was fine between them both so no need to kick off at him in this night club! 😂 I always wondered if he lied about the hospital visit to defuse the situation 😂
Only player to win a championship medal and get relegated in same season?
Looking back at his time at Man city, I reckon he had what these days is known as "the yips"
"Least favorite teamm-- "DENNIS TUEART."
I think he's talking about Maldera, not Maldini. But still, to score at the San Siro is incredible. Love these interviews
A rare one-club man for City. Hopefully Foden ends up the same for this generation.
My 1st cousin Paul...we (send to kick a ball up and down Oatlands Rd outside his house in Woodhouse Park....while the girls were inside listening to Catherine’s Sound of Music record.....good times back In the 60’s....This was so interesting to hear the inside story from a professional footballer....it was so sad when Paul’s sister Catherine passed away....much love from me here in Australia....
he didnt really influence our side at the time
Great show as always Mark 👊
Thanks mate - Jeff was a fantastic guest
@@talesofbluemanchestercity certainly was, keep um coming mate !.
The reason I wore Mizuno boots for a couple of seasons
was a pleasure to be a season ticket holder at that time,,,absolute legend tommy
legend
Strange why did he go and play for John Bond at Burnley doesn't add up
Stan Horne, and will tranter stayed with us in Hammersmith, when I lived there as a kid, both players for Fulham then..
Very enjoyable that Mark, what a lovely fella. I remember his time well ! 😬
Thank you for this ace vid Mark and Clive. What a top professional and absolute gent Clive is. V sad he never got the run he deserved in that team. The football under Mel Machin was really good to watch. Thank you for the mrmories Clive. We just wish their were more. 😢
Another great watch. Those of us who supported City in this era deserve medals!!
Doesn’t really work like that mate
Great that Mark. Kit seems really decent 👍👏
I was very honest an open about his time with us and is a cracking fella
Brilliant interview
Thanks John. Kit was very open and honest about his spell and despite relegation I thought he had a good first season with us.
Paul was absolute class, both on and off the pitch. He was a generational talent who could play anywhere, such was his ability. One of the saddest days I've witnessed was his testimonial when he kicked the match off on crutches with his knee in a protective brace, heartbreaking.😢
Brilliant interview know Mark from school and played with him in school team glad he went on and enjoyed a career in football followed his progress through his family with his cousin being my best friend humble person who is gracious to have lived the dream of pulling on a blue shirt thanks for the memories friend
Glad you enjoyed it Ken
Thanks for the video 💙⭐⭐⭐
