I’ve never been to the wedge. It seems to be a peculiar wave where you can hit a drop that way and then cling to a long face ride. I’ve not seen it quite that way anywhere else.

I miss The Point, The Wedge, Aliso, Blacks Beach, Boomers, and Mexico. I stopped riding Mexico because of the raw sewage. There are two secret spots in Orange County: Three Arch Bay, and North side of Dana point jetty but only on a big swell.

If you can't take off with two strokes, you are going over the falls.

Back then California was a laid back atmosphere. Good times up and down the southern coast for me. Always bodysurfed the Wedge on big swells. Unfortunately, in the 80s money became the obsession and by the 90s it was all anyone talked about in the coastal cities. In 2001 I moved to Ventura County and bodysurfed Zuma. I was the only guy out on big swells for years but those times have passed and it is as crowded as Newport Beach. Your's truly, Frontslider.

Hey Tom, how about Frontslider. I was ripping the place up on the biggest swells. I have photo of me from August 1 2000 at 30 feet. I was in my forties. And I went on from there ripping up the biggest waves in Ventura.

I body surfed a lot in my teens. Angled down a few waves where it was possible. Most of the time it was just straight ahead, but the quality of the waves were nothing like the wedge. Fun times.
