Basemen is a Holland-based collective of musicians creating music with the energy and beats of dance music combined with the warmth and musicality of Cool Jazz, soul and funk.

Basemen started in 2009 in a basement, packed with musical instruments, drums machines, synthesizers, analogue recording equipment all linked with a DAW running Ableton live and virtual instruments.

The compositions are often created by Remco Schrijver on piano or synthesizer, accompanied by Gerard Koning playing trumpet and piano and electronic beats, production and mastering by Matty Lakerveld.

Since 2013, Basemen is focusing on making music with a combination of styles ranging from deep house, Nu Disco, soul/funk and Cool Jazz. Still, all music is recorded, mixed and mastered in the ‘basement’ by the basemen, featuring many artist who are adding their musical experience and ideas to the songs.
