I figure these narcissists must be somewhat aware of their flaws and they have desires to be a certain way just like everybody. But instead of taking ownership of their flaws they project them on others to see how they resolve those flaws. Like you said they may not even do it fully aware because it's habitual and part of their personality. Maybe it's their way of asking for help whilst not killing their own ego. I dunno. Great video.

Narcissists are in a parallel reality of their own...good that you went no contact, that's the best for your own mental health...they never change it's like expecting an amputated leg to grow back, it's just not going to happen... I recommend you check out Sam Vaknin, he's a professor of psychology and an expert on the subject of narcissism among other toxic personality disorders...
