Morrisons Batman and Robin is one of my all time favorites too. Frank Quietlys art in the first arc is some of the best and fits the story perfectly
Awesome Batman reading order! But a little correction about Heart of Hush, that under the cowl of Batman is still Bruce Wayne! One of the great Dark Knight stories featuring Dick Grayson is Scott Snyder's Batman Black Mirror.
@@andreidavid8895 ah ykw I think I meant to say Dick was Batman in the beginning and forgot they swapped again later lol Black Mirror is fucking awesome, but that’ll be for another video!
The Cult, War on Crime, Night Cries, Death of the Innocents, Ultimate Evil, Strange Apparitions, Night of the Stalker, Going Sane, Blind Justice, Ego, Absolution, Venom, Batman Haunted Knight
@@ebenezeronile lots of excellent picks, Blind Justice and Going Sane some absolute gems
really goodc recs here and yeah them 80s 70 reads....tuff to get thru
Honestly I don’t think it is that tuff. The most notable Batman runs between 70s-to-mid 80s Pre-Crises Batman would be O’Neil-Adams, Englehart-Rogers, Moench-Newton/Colan.
@@ebenezeronile i think in general, its just a huge overtaking to direct people to comics during that age at least for as far as first comics go, like i said in the video, those are runs i’d rather tell ppl to read later
Im glad you let that bias in cuz even with it you simply can't deny how pivotal it is to the mythos and supporting cast of the Bats
Hard to recommend Hush but also totslly understand why you mentioned it. Love the Universe and Dini run mention! Great vid!
@@EvanVonDoom Universe and Dini fucking rock, had to include them cuz no other rec list does fr
Timeline wise I'm pretty sure there's a google spreadsheet out there that outlines everything from year one to flashpoint. Useful for anyone who wants to get into the weeds.
Yeah, one of those things i’ve personally given up on caring about just simply because there’s so many stories out there and i wanna steer ppl towards stories more than continuity chronology questions lol
“If you don’t like my opinion. I don’t care. Okay? Cool ” and THATS THAT LMAO loved the video
THANK YOU THANK YOU 🙏🏽🩷🩷🩷
Read the new Ultimate universe, its awesome. The Black Panther and Spider-man lines are peak
@@krusk3544 yeah i mentioned in the video i am reading the Ultimate U lol huge fan of Camp’s Ultimates and UBP
Also made a video covering the first arc of Ultimates! ua-cam.com/video/ex5SD2ojB9A/v-deo.htmlsi=cQDcwt-CCur85uNt
Yeah in case you haven’t heard, current DD run isn’t good. Mid at best. Artwork is neat, at best. Love the vid.
i wonder what your thoughts are the latest issues? the moment of finding out the ages and who the teddies are underneath the mask, in the 120, woof that is a gut punch.
@@johnthai6188 even better than the debut issue, Watters is killing it and I love the stakes, will be doing a video on the first arc as a whole when it wraps up for sure 🙏🏽
i love grant morrison's action comics run; that is still to this day one of my favorite superman runs. the fact that they went back to champion of the oppressed superman style characterization was great and that characterization is my favorite version of the character. that's why i love PKJ's run on action comics, superman smashes the klan, golden age superman stories and absolute superman at the moment. also that run gave us more journalist clark kent; which, i just love. as a side note, i wished more superman writers gave clark more reporter clark kent/superman stories. you would think with how big yellow journalism is nowadays that the guy who works for the news would have a story/stories about this topic but nope. also action comics 42 by greg pak is one of the best superman issues of all time. superman standing against police brutality is great. i still need to read more of new 52 superman, because from what i've read of the character i don't get the hate: which are action comics by grant morrison/greg pak, superman wonder women by charles soule, superman unchained and superdoomed. i feel like superdoom is a pretty good sequel to superman unchained.
One of the great great things that Bendis’s Action Comics did was make the journalism a HUGE part of the storytelling, i recommend reading that in tandem with his Superman if you havent, another two extremely overhated Superman runs
@@Retro_1999 you should probably do a video on that run someday. also, i've been meaning to want to read action comics by bendis; so thanks for the recommend.
@ already in the works!
They need to work on their prose again. Recent books just sound like MCU Tony Stark dialogue across the board. That or Fortnite brainrot or Twitter Freak dialogue. Around Anihilation and Civil War in the early 2000s the dialogue was still serious for most characters while funny banter can be found mostly in Spider-Man and Deadpool and other similar characters. It felt distinct back then but now the modern dilaogue feels so homogenous and cringe. Their events and reading guides need work too. Folks say comics are dying when Scholastic and Viz Media aren't. Clearly the medium isn't the problem it's the wide range of titles and sporadic reading order that confuses readers. For an event you'd be lucky if you only have 1-2 side stories to read to get the full event. Dark Web was aggregious with around 3-4 side stories. So that's dialogue and reading order (also linearity) problems. Lastly is progress. Ever since One More Day and All New All Different the books have felt stagnant. Sure you'll get events to "shake things up" but the characters are still back to square one. Spider-Man is still miserable, X-Men and mutants are still hunted despite being heroes for years, and Marvel Cosmic feels abstract despite Anihilation Wave event bringing it back to relevance. "Ok" or "good" is no longer enough. Mediocrity will not keep comic companies alive when competition from Manga and Scholastic clearly beat them with progression. Mediocrity should not be a goal and readers shouldn't settle for it.
now here's a good question how much of "shaking things/characters up" should writers and editorial do before the characters aren't even the same anymore? How much change is toooooooooo much change? for example, while i really loved nick spencer's captain america run, there are fans that hate that run because there was too much change to the captain america character: from steve being a hydra agent / sam wilson being captain america. another example would be jane foster thor where fans hated her character because it wasn't odinson or when riri williams became iron man etc. i could go on but there is somewhat of a draw back of "shaking things" too much that it alienates the older fans.
@@lukeamparo6586 i overall agree with the quality sentiment, but i heavily disagree with the reading order sentiment, most events now have about the same amount of tie-ins as events did back then, Blood Hunt doesnt have too many more tie-ins than say a Civil War or Annihilation did (which is an event that consisted of very important tie-ins), in fact a really good thing due to Blood Hunt were the series that launched because of it (Werewolf by Night, Blade: Red Band, Blood Hunters), but those still being a Marvel Supernatural side, feel extremely niche and it doesnt really present much of a jumping on point or status quo shift the rest of the line. I didn’t need it to be too significant but it wouldve been nice
I like Miles Morales. Post vampire stuff has been rough for me though
@@G-LukeJA yeah fair lol seems like Ziglar is just having fun with the character, I’ll probably go back and read it but i honestly want like Chuck Brown or David F. Walker to take on the character, i feel like they’ll have a strong take on the character
i actually think they need less shakups
@@ImmortalHulk447 i respect that
as for me, with how much i'm reading for dc, which is a lot, i think it's fine that marvel doesn't have this line-wide initiative at the moment. if they did, the stack of stuff i want to read gets increased and i don't want it to. as someone that is trying, but somewhat failing at, a manageable pull list, marvel making a line-wide initiative just makes my reading list less manageable.
Thats fair honestly, I guess with how many marvel books I am reading, I just wish there was SOME cohesion between them, i don’t need too much but just a bit
As a huge fan of Norths Fantastic Four, I get what your saying, I feel like it's really good as a more chill read, and the best part about the balanced nature of the book in regards to the characters is that future writers have more to work off, because like for so long now, the focus is Reed or Ben now they have a more sturdy base
Also really looking forward to this week's, focusing on Bens adopted daughter being a little uncomfortable in her surroundings like any adopted child woukd
@@bradonbriffa9690 its a huge plus for the book, I just wish narratively, F4 did more, but I am glad ppl like the book for sure!
@Retro_1999 yeah just read the latest issue, that's a story that definetly needs a larger narrative set up cause that had some issues in it that really needs to be talked about more.
I'm loving that Declan Shalveys Mystique is also building upon Ryan North new SHIELD and keeping it small like he does, it seems more interesting to me these days as a low budget spy agency run by legendary spys than a global military, hope it stays that way for a while, like its an actual intelligence agency.
Unfortunately its only 4 or 5 issues i believe but i HOPE Shalvey gets a chance to do something else afterwards, i agree its a wonderfully crafted book
You mentioned Green Arrow. And you were also spittin in this vid. Here’s a sub bro 🗣️🔥 Keep going.
@@RoliverQueenReviews ayy thank you bro 😭 huge fan of GA, both Ollie and Connor
Glad to see you taking about this. Despite having good books coming out Marvel has been slacking unlike DC.
Yeah I agree, there's a few Marvel books im pretty dedicated to and really like but DC has absolute-ly (pun intended) been kiling it
@N.A.ROfficial Love to see it man
DC’s line has a very consistent output, even books i’m not too terribly interested in are still something i definitely want to go back to!
@@Retro_1999 that's true. the power girl run that everyone seems to hate, besides me, has more issues than JMS's captain america run.
@@johnthai6188 wish i remembered to mention it too but that Cap run is another huge one for me, a really good idea for a Cap book but having it follow that Sentinel of Liberty/Symbol of Truth era and having Sam basically absent after being so prevalent is just odd
Forgot to mention it, BUT the severe lack of an ongoing Black Panther, Sam Wilson Captain America, and Captain Marvel books also makes me feel like the line is in a weird spot
im back in my shop and just looking around i will admit there's not much on the Marvel side I'm really drawn to, not picking anything really new only picking up my safetynet books
@@HopeEsthiem15 thats exactly how i feel too man 😭
I liked it more because superman was much younger. He wasn’t a a family man father figure to the public. I like it when it’s full action “shonen” type. Plus WW as his love interest made it better since it was different. It wasn’t a just Lois getting kidnapped every week.
I feel like with a character like Superman, often the most stories are already well into his career as Superman, and there just arent that many stories detailing his early years, it was so refreshing
N52 literally had a whole Action Comics run by the goat, Grant Morrison. Don't get the hate at all. Also N52 Superman is technically alive in Earth 52.
@@Comicbroe405 is he really? Where is that stated cuz idk how that works with him merging with post-crisis superman lol making him the “superman red” that never rejoined the original Superman Blue was so odd to me but it is what it is

I’m just in love with the character design - it’s so over the top in a rad way
Its so awesome lol even when i wasnt a fan of the character i still adored the design
I don't like how similar it is to Judge Deaths look. Not similar enough to be a rip off without a doubt, but it's on thin ice.
ok so have to clarify something that wouldnt have taken you a couple of seconds to clarify, hawkgirl and most thanagarians use a harness with wings and the nth metal allows for the flight, it doesnt give them their wings, also in a lot of runs the wings are real and biological, so no, nth metal doesnt give them wings, it just allows them to fly when attached to the harness with wings.
Very good point! Something i just didn’t want to focus too too much on and just wanted to give a broad stroke explanation lol preciate it tho!

I dont know what adjectives to use to describe the coloring. Somehow it does convey golden age vibes....yet fresh. And the coloring is doing part of the story telling. Plot, writing, and art are all very good too. The coloring sticks out to me because I can't figure out what it is exactly about it that I like so much.

So far I like this more than Batman. Seems like there's purpose in how it's written, where as I felt for batman It's just kind of a spectacle in the way Millar's Ultimates were. Obviously hard to judge based on 1 issue, but I'm still excited regardless.
