My parents came from Beswick, I think that was nearby. I've still got one of those huge long photos of my dad's class at school they were born 1913 & 1916. I grew up a few miles down the okdham road in failsworth. When we moved into the house in the early 1950s we had a black lead fireplace with an oven on the side and a hib which went over the fire. We had gas street lights and all the mums used to donkeystone their steps on Friday nights. They talk about pollution now but then the canal was full if rubbish and the air was thick with smog in autumn & winter. We played out with no coat on down air raidnshelters and bomb sites ....was a happy time, carefree and safe for children and women.

I lived in Nicholls St from c1956 to 1965. Went to Ross Place primary and liked the photo at approx 4.05 mins. It was probably the year below me as I recognise a boy in the middle (I think his name was david) who was the younger brother of Philip Lloyd. The teacher on the right was Mr Yates. I can't remember the headmasters name (on the left) although I do remember getting the strap from him.

I lived off of Brunswick St, across from the Apollo in the 70's - 80's. Went to Medlock Infants & juniors, & then Nicholls. Great to see Stockport & Hyde Rd before the slum clearances. I remember the stories of the battles between Nicholls & Greg's, even though Greg's had been knocked down by then! We used to be out all day back then, from morning to night, exploring, getting into trouble! I loved growing up in Ardwick, & know the whole area, but if you was to ask me where the boundaries are, going into Bradford, Ancoats, Medlock, Longsight, Plymouth Grove, & W. Gorton etc, I really wouldn't be able to tell you!! Thanks for posting.
