So refeshing to hear the Word unblemished by fleshly rationalizations 😊
Inane, vacuous drivel!
Hey Connor! A Lutheran here who's big into scholasticism and confessional tradition. I've been listening to your episodes of the Blood and Bone podcast from 2023, specifically I just completed the Semper Reformanda episode. I just wanted to say, that not only was that easily the best podcast on Lutheran discussion, but that episode particular was so unbelievably packed with so much beauty and really deep thought, from "Proper theology is revelation received" all of the way to creation being a form of Gospel, and correlating that with the creation of faith "from nothing" being in line with our creedal understanding and statements were things that intuitively locked together and really formulated our doctrine of monergism in a way that wasn't just heady, but intuivie, practical and beautiful. Especially with your statement on theology leading to doxology, leading to liturgy. Lastly, the distinction between the Divine Service and worship, and later, Pastor Roland saying "Worship is a disposition of faith." I'm not even sure where to begin, so, I will not. Rather, I'd like to thank you so much for tour contributions to the discussion of our faith and your talks have been so powerful and formative for me. Thank you so much!
WOW!!! This was AMAZING!! ... This was an excellent well-balanced presentation with a historical context. ... For the past recent years, I have been integrating this ancient practice, using "Anglican Prayer Beads" ("Anglican Rosary") with 33 beads. (8/20/24).
Is concupiscence a temptation?
No. Concuipisence is the internal desire and inclination toward sin. Temptation, often misunderstood or confused with concupisence is an external force which puts out sin toward us. Thus, an external force can tempt us, and we would say, then we ourselves have been "tempted." BUt concupisence is within yourself. hope that helps
@@TranscendentTruthMedia Okay, so temptation itself is not considered a sin. So, would it become a sin when a person consciously entertains, consents to, or acts upon it? For example, if a person lingers on a thought and starts to mentally engage with it, is it sin at that point?
@@SilentHistoryTx Absolutely
@@TranscendentTruthMedia But not before a person starts to mentally engage with it, correct?
Genesis 1 is Lucifer and the fallen angels. They made man in their image. Man is an idol, a trap for angels. Only one Gospel: The Gospel of Reconciliation. Jesus Christ came into THEIR kingdom to reconcile fallen angels unto Himself. We are the fallen angels (ELOHIM) kept in DNA chains of darkness. If you do not confess being a fallen angel in Lucifer's kingdom, then you are an unbeliever. Unbeliever = those that claim to be made in the image of ELOHIM(gods). REPENT FALLEN ANGELS.
Interesting take. I had a long response I had drafted to one of Dr. Cooper's video on the subject. But it was really too long to post as a YT comment. Same here. Can send it to you if you are interested. Will message you on IM about sending
Don't know what you're talking about. Law-Gospel is a principle of good preaching that isn't opposed to textual 'exposition'. And it's not as simplistic as you make it out to be.
Perhaps you misunderstood what was said. Nobody here believes that the Law-Gospel dialectic is antithetical to or mutually exclusive from textual exposition. But there is a distinction between "textual exposition" and the homiletical methodology known as "expository preaching." Just so, the Law-Gospel dialectic is distinguished from the homiletic known as "Law-Gospel preaching." The distinction between the two homiletics really is simply (other than of course the differences in definition and understanding of Law/Gospel between the reformed and Lutheran churches) which is holding the wheel and driving the car. Most reformed pastors would and do not view Lutheran preaching as biblical expository preaching because its focus is not to draw out a verse by verse run through of the text in the textual, covenantal, literary, cultural, geographical context, does not take so much precise consideration of the linguistics and grammar, and so on, but is more concerned with using the text to proclaim from it the Law which kills the Sinner and the Gospel which absolves and raises them. Conversely, while we acknowledge that Reformed pastors (while disagreeing with us on the definitions and understandings of these things) strive to preach both Law and Gospel their focus is primarily to "preach the text," and as such we would both mutually acknowledge that our homiletic traditions are very different.
@@TranscendentTruthMedia Incomprehensible. Your explanation of your claim is more confusing than the claim your are 'explaining'. Not surprising I misunderstood. You're right I don't know what you're talking about.
oh my? the delusion is spreading.
I remember hearing what Dr. Jordan Cooper said about the Lutheran rosary, and am very intrigued by using it as a spiritual discipline.
Protestants being exclusive with one another is silly, imo.
Are you a universalist?
@@joabthejavelin5119 no, are you?
@@SolaScriptura21 Not at all. Why would it be silly for Protestants to be exclusive with each other and not Rome? I don't want people teaching false things in my church. Baptists, Presbyterians, and Methodists are wrong. I don't want their false teachings in my church any more than the false teachings of Rome or the East. Anyone can come to my church, but not everyone can teach or receive the body and blood of Christ.
@@joabthejavelin5119 I desire to see magisterial protestants get over their differences and present a united front against the papists and the east and the cults.. Keep the differences but acknowledge them and move past them.
@SolaScriptura21 As a Lutheran, I don't want to be lumped in with the Reformed. A lot of complaints from Rome about "Protestants" don't apply to me. "I'd rather drink the blood of Christ with the Pope than mere wine with Zwingli."
This was so good! Thank you for breaking this all down so well. I had just started using a rosary as a lutheran and couldn't find much about it online. So glad this came up on my UA-cam page. You've gained a new subscriber. Do you have any more resources on the subject you would recommend?
Thank you for addressing this topic in a respectful and comprehensive way. Thank you also for directly rebutting "Hal's" many uncharitable accusations and unjust assertions.
Hey! Great response video. I've actually thought about doing a "Scriptural Lutheran Rosary" where you read a chapter or paragraph of text that relates to each mystery. I'm glad you brought it up haha since I've been thinking of doing it! I would disagree on a few points, but I do agree with the general premise that, "The Lutheran Rosary is okay to do and the rhetoric is something is not bad!"
Thanks king. PAX
One of the Best discussions I have come across. The last 15 mins in particular was Pure Gold. I am a 5 Point Calvinist but I also Believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is My Personal Holiness. I actually first came across that concept in the writings of John Brine the High Calvinistic Baptist. I look forward to more such discussions of Law Gospel Theology
Well said!

A wonderful reflection on Holy Saturday From an ancient homily on Holy Saturday : Today a great silence reigns on earth, a great silence and a great stillness. A great silence because the King is asleep. The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. . . He has gone to search for Adam, our first father, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow Adam in his bonds and Eve, captive with him - He who is both their God and the son of Eve. . . "I am your God, who for your sake have become your son. . . I order you, O sleeper, to awake. I did not create you to be a prisoner in hell. Rise from the dead, for I am the life of the dead.
I’m a Catholic but loved so much of this. Of course disagree about fasting . Note that if you read the primary sources on the quartodeciman controversy the disputants often talk about in terms of “when the fast ends “. So it was very early in the Church as was the exhortation on alms giving, But back to what I loved . Totally agree about Palm Sunday and Passion Sunday. Destroys all sense of narrative arc . also loved the point about Holy Saturday and the opportunity to preach on the harrowing of hell - ie to preach that Christ preached the gospel even in his death to the captive souls and liberated them. As you know Catholics do celebrate Holy Saturday but primary at night as the Easter Vigil. There can be an earlier prayer service where the true theme of Holy Saturday is celebrated and preached but you will only get a handful of folks. a shame . That said the Easter Vigil is tremendous and I would hope that is something that evangelical Lutheran catholics will incorporate . It is not often done
So important to preach the trinity, not just teach in a class but to preach it always. How many Christian know the Cappadocian method of teaching the Monarchy of the Father in the Godhead, and then completing one's picture of the Most Holy Trinity by teaching the Divine Operations of Filiation and Spiration. So that we are not only told 3-in-1 and 1-in-3, but *what* if not *how* the Trinity is revealed to us to consist in. This is the trinitarianism of the Nicene Creed and most westerners know a slogan and a disturbing number of westerners are in danger of modalism, tritheism and partialism.
Preach!
Great. "I largely give up"? Ha ha. Pastor you are getting very good with the technology of podcasting. Really enjoyable video and also with the readings. Well done.

Glad to see you emphasize the Gloria as the primary canticle to follow the Kyrie . Are you supportive of bringing back traditional Eucharistic Prayers - or at least those for example of Piepkorn- the so called Chism Eucharistic Prayers ? Full disclosure : former LCMS who became Catholic over 15 years ago. Even if you stay Lutheran , love what you are doing with your channel.
Yes, I practice Eucharistic Prayers. At my parish we use the LBW (Lutheran Book of Worship) which as you may know, was a joint project between the ELCA and LCMS that Missouri dropped out of for several reasons, one main reason being the option for retrieval of Eucharistic Prayers. Our LBW Altar book has I believe 5 options, one being no Eucharistic Prayer a tall. I often cycle through them seasonally. In the coming Liturgy book that we've just finished and are now editing there will be a full set of seasonal (and proper feast) Eucharistic prayers for Daily Divine Service which pulls not only from Lutheran but also ancient western and Eastern sources from every era of the church's history. Many blessings to hear from you Todd. Feel free to reach out to me at any time for feedback or questions.
@@connorlongaphie Ah…. The green hymnal . I forgot it had some Eucharistic prayers . Will have to revisit .

This episode was epic and touched on a lot of my favorite theological issues, and as a Roman Catholic this helped me see even more that we have in common with Lutherans.
Nice work men.
Thanks for sharing this. We don't get any of these preached or taught in this part of the world, not at all, sadly.
love this episode guys

Lovely episode that cleared up a lot of otherwise very strange seeming passages. I am a big fan of this series, please keep it coming.
Great episode, thank you
Lex semper accusat non est lex sola accusat.
The Formula cannot have capitulated to scholasticism since the Lutherans never rejected it in the first place. That's the major error of the Luther Renaissance / Luther vs the Lutherans thesis. Luther was a Platonist, not a Proto-Kantian.
While certainly nobody believes that Luther was a proto-kantian, the idea that he was a platonist is beyond debatable. However, your point is entirely correct that the Luther vs the Lutherans (specifically the other confessional divines) thesis is fundamentally broken and anti-confessional.
as a Roman Catholic inclined to using Aristotelian categories this was very nice, felt like Lutherans "speaking my language"
The difficulty people have with progressive sanctification is that they don't experience it. Weird hearing Christian experience described as platonic. Not sure what was meant by that.
"If you care about grace getting into sinner's ears, please drop a coin or two in the coffer." I can't help but note the humorous irony/parallel to dropping a coin in the coffer to get a soul out of purgatory.
Saved in my Playlist; I'll watch later.
As much as I disagree with what was said (I'm a papist), this was solid unapologetically Lutheran content. I'm finding myself benefiting much from these, I'm learning "from the horse's mouth" what it is that Lutherans confess and why, and it helps me to understand your tradition more.
I love these type of replies. Even in disagreement, at least hearing out the tradition to understand what and why we confess what we confess!
I finally remembered; it was ultimately the objectivity of the cross that pulled me out of any kind of subjective fascination with the hidden will of God, or internal fruits that may or may not be within me - Pastor Connor
Idk who these guys are but the episode was baste
Am one of the referenced papist listeners. This was very informative but further, it was hilarious. You guys make a funny duo. Good job. Keep them coming.
