I had far too many VHS tapes back in the day, which over the years were then slowly replaced with DVDs, BluRay's and now a few 4K's.

We're watching "The Innocents" (1961)... This one was SO eerie. I hope you all enjoy this one and thank you for requesting it! It was one I didn't realise was going to feel so good and creepy all at the same time. Genuinely pretty terrifying in places. Plus, some incredible cinematography, especially with that Cinemascope. That ACTING! Deborah Kerr and the children are brilliant and pull it off...

Shout out to those warriors who stood up to Kong when he broke throu the gate and threw their spears at him. Those guys had some massive b*lls made out of mithril.
When I was a kid her screams used to scare the daylights out of me. What still freaks me out is Kong's smile/grin when he lifts her from under the log 😱😱😱😱
I'm so glad you enjoyed The Innocents! I thought you might. 😊 It's my favorite black-and-white film of all time, and a top 10 favorite horror as well. Years ago, when my kittens Oliver and Scout were little, if they were bad I'd call them Miles and Flora. They always promised to be EVER so good now! but I was skeptical, and always with good reason. 😉 I've got so much to say about this movie I hardly know where to begin. Also I'm worried you'll think (to use Miles' words) that I'm 'a damned hussy! a damned dirty-minded hag!!' Under the eerie, pretty, and ultimately tragic surface of the film, there is SUCH a dark, dark undercurrent of innocence corrupted and it's hinted at in symbolic yet explicit ways, over and over. More to come. For now, I'm singing O Willow Waly 🎵
I agree it should have been different families instead of the McCallisters. Different characters in general to separate it from the first two films. Home Alone 4 was probably mediocre at best but i did like bad guy cast more in this one (French Stuart, and Missi Pyle) more than the Home Alone 3 bad guys. But of course nothing tops Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern from 1 and 2.
One of the world's great mysteries - how Barbara Streisand convinces people she is beautiful.
He was referring to coffee ice cream
Tardi!!! and when you're done Tar-Dat!! No wonder you're Tar'd Marty Jumping through all those Who-la-Hoops. Thanks again for all your hard work. I'm looking forward to the Terror to Come! All the Best Jacques Mexico ....
The actor he thought looked like Oliver Hardy is Billy Gilbert and he was in several L&H films and co-starred in the Oscar winning short, The Music Box. This movie has been remade several times, with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon and another one in the eighties with Burt Reynolds and Christopher Reeve
I love this movie and I loved watching it with you and seeing your reactions to it. I have seen it probably a dozen times!
This movie , when I saw it when it came out was on the big screen at a cinema and man-o-man the brilliance of James Cameron's movie shone through.
This film is an experience. I'm so glad you got into it, Marty. Many people dont, but your appreciation of history, customs etc, shines through. I was waiting for your reaction to Willows song, the scene, in her bedroom. Its been mesmerising people for years. The original track and many covers are on UA-cam. Its a beautiful song. Thanks for doing this reaction, i thoroughly enjoyed it.
The waterfall scene, used for the re-entry to the Dome City, was filmed at Fort Worth Water Gardens in Fort Worth, Texas
Lucy's daughter is played by a very young Natilie Wood.
When I was a kid the TV show was running as reruns and it was really good. I remember watching it after school. The show started as black and white and then went over to color. I didn't see the movie until years later.
One of my all time favourites I adore this film One of my cats is called Scout
Salutations Marty, Loved the Grinch short about idiots. Here's another. In Disney's 1959 Sleeping Beauty Maleficent Thunderbolts here incompetant followers yeslling "Fools, Idiots!!! Oh they're hopeless. A disgrace to the forces of Evil." Jacques Mexico
Another Party with our Marty, I like watching the little series as a whole. so If they were all together that would be most conveniient for me. And I imagine if folks only want to watch 2 at a time they could stop in the middle. My old Windows Computer is doing just fine keeping up. I'm enjoying your reactions thoroughly. All the best Jacques Mexico I'm surprised that they knew in 1964 that sacrificial victims were mostly volunteers, I thought that was a more recent discovery. Live and Learn.
StreiSAND not zand or zund. Sand on the beach.
Still the funniest (and best imo) comedy i've ever seen. Also, bits of this film remind me of The Italian Job :)
"The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" is in my film pantheon. This film is so much more than the sum of its parts, gorgeous though those parts may be. The script is restrained, judicious, beautifully balanced between humor, pathos, mystery, and romance. The black-and-white chiaroscuro lends "Gull Cottage," and the faces of its occupants, their own spiritual, nay spectral presence. The cast is wonderful, particularly Rex Harrison as a pitch-perfect Captain Gregg, with an unexpected bon-bon saved for the end: the radiant, criminally under-appreciated Vanessa Brown as Lucy Muir's grown daughter Anna. I could wax rhapsodic about Bernard Hermann's incomparable score, which captures life's beauty and sadness with such heart-tearing harmonies. But it's the way the music embarks even before the film starts--its melancholy arpeggios vaulting over the Fox logo, instead of the studio's standard chest-thumping fanfare--that lets you know you are entering another world. Dare I call it spiritual? What else is that light from the sea at the window of Lucy Muir's bedroom at Gull Cottage? What else the misty outlines of cliff and ocean as she paces her solitary way through the years? This film, so haunting in the non-ghostly sense, sticks its fingers into the heart and touches on the very nature of love, life, and death, in a manner unlike any other, save perhaps "La Strada". It is not the scenes between Lucy and the captain that seem central to its being, but rather the distillation of feeling long after his spectral presence has vanished. It's all in the next-to-last scene. Something about a love that is never consummated... If you're not moved by this scene, you need to go get your stone carapace struck off.
My all time favourite.❤️
One of my fav Cary Grant films.❤️
Henry Fonda was great in this. But Lee J. Cobb's performance was genius level. (He was Juror #3 -- the one with the son). The thing is, his anger is so overwhelming, it's easy to dismiss him as a one-dimensional loudmouth bully. So it's easy to miss how nuanced his performance is. Vulnerability, uncertainty, sadness, regret, tenderness, fear, empathy, humor, thoughtfulness -- it's all there. It's just perfectly, carefully placed and very, very subtle. A one-man acting masterclass.
A very young Natalie Wood. So sweet!
This didn’t really hit the mark for me. Love Tierney though.
Not sure why they added things to make a part 4. It works just as it is.
O Willow Waly is awesome. Here's my take. In the novella James intentionally made the objective existence of the ghosts ambiguous. The governess sees Quint up close and then describes his distinctive red hair and sideburns without any prior knowledge of his features. Then later Mrs. Gross says that she did not see the ghosts. Therefore it's ambiguous and you can argue it eigher way. In the film Miss Giddens doesn't see Quint up close until after she sees his picture in the locket. By inserting this scene the ambiguity is removed. Also the references to the children being exposed to Quint and Miss Jessup's sexual activity isn't in the book. The film suggests that Miss Giddens sees the ghosts because she is sexually repressed, a more psychological but less ambiguous explanation. In the book she wasn't sexually repressed she was just naive and infatuated with the uncle and looking for an excuse to contact him.
O Willow Waly O Woe is We. Hi Marty, Thanks so much, you just being yourself is wonderful just for you, but above and beyond that you remind me of my constantly commenting family. Watching movies was my dad's dry humor, my brother's hilarious quips, my mom's "Don't answer that phone!!!" and my own contributions. The Innocents was consistently guilty of using visual clues against your expertise. I love this movie and have a couple of points. Do Read the Henry James 1898 novella....it's not long and is a great read. And you never mentioned Benjamin Britten's 1950 opera The Turn of The Screw. One of my favorites and availible on the you-tubas. Jacques the Noisy living in mexico where the people also talk during movies heheehe
Agreed with the very different type of storyline. Very enjoyable. Thank you for bringing classic Doctor Who to us!
I really enjoyed watching this. Every time I knew a scary part was coming I had to stop to watch your reaction 😄 It still has the power to shock doesn't it? I saw it when it was broadcast. To this day, I've never been so absolutely terrified by anything on TV or film. A masterpiece.
Again, wonderful job Marty!❤
Aw, thank you so much for coming back and for the kind words Marla! They're very much appreciated, especially since I had to re-upload. I'm glad you liked the video! Have a wonderful day!
It’s interesting that Dr Who started as a human. It must have been surprising to see the second doctor after regeneration.
👻
Gull Cottage (though monkey puzzle tree or Uncle Neddy would have been appropriate, too)
Thank you so much for watching! I love the other suggestions too 😎
O willow waly...and this film gets in your brain and won't leave. I love it. Thank you. And, Thank You!
I adore these old films Some more great ones: Black Narcissis The Horse's Mouth Patterns Come To The Stable Ball Of Fire The Caretaker The Hound Of The Baskervilles Also, from a later era, Natalie Wood in Inside Daisy Clover and This Property Is Condemned with Natalie Wood and Robert Redford Nevada Smith with Steve McQueen
Alta was evidently never allowed near the plastic educator (as Morbius called it). So, she had no power to project subconscious thoughts into solid forms (referred to, in Tibetan Buddhism, as tulpas). But, in giving himself the brain boost, Dr. Ostrow obviously received a bigger jolt than Morbius. Not _immediately_ fatal as in the case of the Bellerophon's captain. But, certainly more deadly than Morbius'. A 21st century coroner would probably rule both his and Morbius' death, shortly afterward, as being some kind of aneurysm or cerebral hemorrhage.
Cary Grant never made a bad film (well, in America, anyway). I recommend his entire catalogue; my favourite is Father Goose.
I love Deborah Kerr. I think she's quite underrated. Great actress, witty,charming...CLASS itself!
Have you seen Cary Grant's last movie, "Walk Don't Run". It, too, is a screwball
PG?
@@mongomongo7664 Oh apologies, if you meant that I said it was a PG movie, I meant the film's age rating. PG meaning Parental Guidance. Turns out Jaws was originally classified as "A" which is the equivalent of PG today. It appears to have now been raised to a 12A by the BBFC. I hope that helps!
Marty. I saw your `Ghost and Mrs Muir` reaction. Glad you liked it. If you get time, please check out `Portrait of Jennie` (1948) starring Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotton. It has a rather similar theme to `Ghost` and I have loved it ever since I first saw it in the 1960s!
@@alansmith1989 Thank you for this and for watching! I'm so glad you love it. I certainly shall, I'll add it to my suggestions list! (Pinned public post on Patreon) I do love a ghostly, supernatural film! Very much appreciated. Have a lovely day and thank you again!
@@MoviesWithMarty Marty. I do hope you do get a chance to watch `Portrait of Jenny` The film (in my view) is just superb! You enjoyed `The Ghost and Mrs Muir` and good as that one undoubtedly is, I think `Portrait of Jennie` is even better!
Marty. seeing as you enjoyed this one; maybe at some time you might check out `Portrait of Jennie` from 1948. It runs along `sort-of` a similar theme. Starred Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotton. For myself, I adore it!
The Innocents was directed by Jack Clayton; an great director who sadly, only directed a few films in his career; but what films they were. Can I point you to "Our Mother's House", which I think you'll like.
Hi Marty, As a home cook (who has been spending an average of 8 hours a day, everyday for the past 60 years) you've finally answered a question I might be able to answer. Although food scientists have been trying to create artificial flavors chemically, they always seem to lack something. But chefs have been doing this for centuries with natural ingredients. Back in the 1970s I was making a Peach frappe and decided to put in some lime zest and juice and ended up with Mango flavour, good old alchemy hehehe Jacques Mexico
Sidney Newman 1917 - 97 was the Canadian producer who proposed Dr. Who to the BBC. He didn't want Robots, The Daleks were a kind of compromise. The BBC made a marvellous 'film' about how dr. who got off the ground. Cheers
I wasn't planning to subscribe to another reaction channel, but just happened to search for reactions to A Hard Day's Night and yours was one that came up and I chose to watch it pretty much at random. I have to say I enjoyed this enormously. Particularly the trivia / fact second half. Excellent reaction. Please do Help! Some have suggested skipping Magical Mystery Tour but I think you'd enjoy it.
Two great ghost stories were made into brilliant films in the 1960's: "The Innocents," and "The Haunting." One down, Marty, and one to go. Willow Waly.
One of my very favorites. Gene Tierney was vastly underrated. My choice for Rex Harrison's best. Loved the music so much. Lovely all around!
They actually say in the movie that the white corpuscles will digest the ship and everything in it. I love the references to Gerry Anderson, Stingray, and Thunderbirds! I watched those myself, plus Super Car and Fireball XL5! Great Stuff!
Hi Marty, For me when I watch Hitchcock I almost always am nodding my head in agreement with how he films a shot. With Preminger I'm almost always saying no no NO!. It gets annoying after a while. There was a lot of Preminger on TV in the 60s. Golden Arm, Bunny Lake, Carmen Jones, Anatomy Murder, Advise-Consent, and The Cardinal. So I've done my due diligence. A close friend of mine made a copy of Laura for me. Great Story, Impeccable Acting, and Otto's little bag of mis-direction. I found it amusing that what makes you second guess so many films so well is what tricked you in this one. I haven't seen the trivia secion yet, but your reaction to the film itself was priceless. 1944 is probably radio, TV became popular in the 1950s. In Every Mystery worth its salt everyone should be a possible suspect in the crime. Shades of E.A.Poe, Romancing the Corpse. Jacques Mexico
On the first person rule...since the portrait was first (a decoy as all art is) it was a red herring...and Then we see the pompous Donkey. I'm notoriously bad at figuring mysteries out. I either get them right away or never get them. Speaking of Black and White, there are interesting black and white films in every decade since film began. I'm fond of Vincent Price.
Besides Listening to a lot of old radio programs, I learned a lot about the subject from Woody Allen's 1987 film "Radio Days" which I highly recomment.
