In this channel I showcase mods I've made to get that perfect piece of gear.
Modding the Gerber 06 Auto to hold a larger Spring!
Some Mods that I made to the Gerber 06 Auto to make it deploy faster. The Springs from www.knifekits.com/vcom/index.php do NOT fit... but I have a fix for that. @GerberGear

Going over the Anatomy of a Knife for those that are just getting into knives or just never knew the terminologies
Another good boot you should checkout is nrs boundry boots
Nice! Thanks for the recommendation!
@gearmodder5648 there like a neoprene moccasin muck boot
Someone aways wrecks a highly praised and top selling footwear. Why the upper management never seems to step in it`s money they are missing out on.... Improving never seems to happen when it becomes well known.............................................
Dude that's NICE! I love the knife but because of it's terribly slow speed I won't buy one. I'd pay you money to do that for me! That is extremely impressive.
Thank you! Yeah I'd be happy to do it. We are in the process of moving so let me wrap that up first and then I will reach out.
Hello guy, I am undecided between the salomon xaforces mid gtx and salomon quest 4d 3forces mid model. I will not walk very long distances, but I will still walk and the transitions in the camp also make the parachute, wrist support is also important for me, quest force patterns and I can be very comfortable or after a soft sports shoes. It seemed a little harsh, the outdoor models were more comfortable, and now which one do you recommend for durability with the characteristics and features of xaforce mid? Should I endure the slightly harder and rougher quest model? I would be very happy if you could help me. Thank you for the review. It was very good.
I can’t find the TR-103’s anywhere! Only see the coyote brown and the black
The 103's were discontinued :-(
I have seen some people that wear hiking boots unlace their boots and restart but up a rung of eyelets, it helps add a little more width to your boot without having to buy all these weird sizes you typically arent because as we all know, all boots are not the damn same
Yeah that's a good idea! There are so many lacing tricks to get a better fit.
Appreciate you doin this review! Trying to find a good replacement for my Under Armour Tac Loadout boots that ran out of tread... Is the toe box good and wide on these Salomon Jungle boots as far as you can tell? Compared to like an Altra running shoe?
Yes there is decent room in the toe box. Not as much as my Tactical Research MiniMil by Belleville, but in a Regular, they have about the same room as my Altama Jungle Pro X in a Wide, and my Danner Rats in a Wide.
@@gearmodder5648 thanks! Appreciate this!
Great review Sir! I've been lookin for a pair of boots for summer wear and these seem to hit the mark! Keep up the great work!
Thank you! I love them. Thinking about getting the black pair too.
@@gearmodder5648 those would be sweet! I ride a motorcycle and those would be perfect for the Texas summer heat!
Do you wear neoprene water socks or regular hiking/military surplus socks???
On this trip I went without socks. The stock insoles would probably never let a neoprene socked foot in there. They are way too sticky/rough LOL
@gearmodder5648 they make different thickness of neoprene socks/water booties for scuba diving I have pairs haven't tried yet With my maritime boots...
@@HannibalsSurplusReviews nice! Let me know what thickness works best and I might grab a pair
@gearmodder5648 I have no clue I'm size 11 shoes with same size neoprene socks I have not wet my maritime assault boots ever, 4mm or 3mm might work...
I am thinking about getting a pair of the Maritime 8" relatively soon...I live extremely close to the Delaware River....
They look a lot like a taller version of Chucks
Yep they are much thicker than chucks. Like 6mm of Nylon/webbing vs the .5 mm cotton walls of Chucks. Makes them alot more durable.
awesome mod
How is the balance?
The balancing point is about 1 inch before the first cut out. Seems about where it shoud be, to me. It swings nicely and not so front heavy that you can't stop it mid swing if needed.
Good to know that the toe cap can be made soft. I am not big fan of that "protective " toe cap. It stops my toes from curling freely
They can be "Broken up" and made kinda soft, but I'd recommend removing the toe cap all together. The white brittle stuff can overlap after breaking up and cause small lumps in the boot and hot spots.
I got a sanlida dragon x9 for the same reasons its always important to be prepared
Nice!! I just checked it out.
Sanlida is Chinese made overpriced trash archery
Good content
Thank you!
What kinda socks do you wear in water situations just wondering I've got the olive mids 4yrs ago maybe I use OD green USOA military boot socks the mixed with silver kind
I wear nylon socks that wont absorbe water. Kinda like dress socks. They also don't grab the soles of the Maritime boots as much. I also wear the Mil Issued socks with them, but they grab the soles so you gotta work your foot in there some.
@gearmodder5648 my pair of maritime assault mids don't get used often
Nice good job bro,, 👍👍👍
Thank you!
Nice review. Do they dry quickly? Saw them on sale and considering them for a trip. Thanks!
Yes! You can walk them dry very quickly.
I’m having a hard time finding these green ones
The green ones are discontinued :-(
Thank you😺
Do these have steel or composite toes?
More like a soft rubber toe. great for wearing fins.. not so great for protecting your toes.

I have 7 pairs of boots mainly combat boots, 4 pairs of Corcoran, 1 Matterhorn, 1 Bates, 1 Altama and 1 Danner and while they are all the same size and style of boots each pair fits and feels different. In all my years of owning boots i never thought that that kilties do improve wearability. Your argument makes tremendous sense. I also like how you improvised and salvaged a kiltie from an old boot. I also watch countless of PNW (NICKS, JK's, WHITES, FRANKS) BOOTS video and none of them have ever expounded on the notion of kiltie improve wearability. Thanks so much. I will be making a homemade kiltie from a handbag.
I've found that depending on the boot and how it bends, placing the kiltie alittle higher in the laces can make a difference if there is any discomfort. The laces on some Danners, for example, start much lower towards the end of the boot than most
@@gearmodder5648 Awesome. Thanks for the insight. Like I said in my original post in all the YT Videos and applications of Kiltie none has ever pointed this out. I have watched tones of videos particularly from the top PNW bookmakers and even Rose Anvil channel. I actually tried your theory today, I cut a linear rectangle from a Yoga mat in the shape of a Kiltie and what I noticed was it enlarges the lacing circumference allowing the upper shin/calf leather to cinch and grip the foot tightly. And it also pushes the leg backwards placing it firmly and deep into the heel cap and over time the heel will create a curvature for it to sit on. Thanks again bro
Nice. One of the many clones of the original Helikon Gunfighter jacket. This one is actually at a realistic price!
Yeah the price is fantastic! I might have to get the Helikon just to compare... I have a feeling the differences won't be worth the extra cost.
I was literally just now looking at one so thanks, great review!
Thank you! I like it so much, I was just about to buy their soft shell pants but the temps are rising. Maybe next year.
@@gearmodder5648 The thermal underwear, what's the name of it? Tried to find it on their website but failed..

I got three mid cut Altama. The MC Black, MC, and OD Green. Absolute best shoes ever. I have owned them for around 2 years and I still use them to this day. How did you put the MOLLE on the side. That looks great. I want to throw some on mine when I get some.
Nice!! the MC Black looks fantastic. - I measured where I wanted them, and sewed them by hand. Have to make sure the stiches are tight. I copied the distance from another piece of gear that already had MOLLE on it.
ti would have been a more practical design if it a a fuller for lightening the weight instead of 3 uneven holes
Perhaps. In use though, the weight feels really good. I'll get a video of some chopping.

I just did a review on the tr102. This video was suggested to me. Anyway, I subscribed
Watched your review! Glad to see the black pair not coming apart where the sole and uppers meet. I may have to get me another pair in black. I wish they'd upgrade the insole.
@gearmodder5648 they don't have the jungle holes, but they dry great anyway. I like em because even though they aren't waterproof, persay you can handle a puddle with em. Thought I'd point that out because I think I forgot two in the video.
After watching your videos on the Altama Maritimes, which gave great insight and helped me decide those probably aren't for me, I instead ordered a pair of these Bellevilles in black. That was last week- I haven't received them yet, but I'm glad you uploaded this- now I know what I'm in for in the long term! Your reviews are honest and authentic. I appreciate that you make the effort to improve and upgrade your gear.
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. Enjoy your boots!
Just bought mine excited to try them out. Thanks for the review
Nice! if you plan to wear any kind of cotton sock, be sure to replace the insoles.
Where do you get the OTB insoles? I have the low cuts and the stock insoles are fine but I can definitely see your point about swapping them out in the 8”
Hey! I took them out of a pair of OTB (Pre-Altama) Jungle Boots. I am looking for ways on how to get a new pair. Not easy to find!
Aww man… I was hoping you had a source
@@lilkasino2017 as soon as I find one I'll let you now. I am reaching out to Altama directly.
Any OTB insole updates?
@@Scot-t no. the last pair of boots that they sold that came with those insoles have now been discontinued. 😞 they were called Altama Jungle Assault Side-Zip Safety Toe 351603
I was thinking of getting this as a comfortable all day motorcycle riding boot. Would you say it has a decent level of abrasion resistance and ankle support?
Definately! abrasion resistance and ankle support are great. The drainage area at the bend of the sole needs some care, though I don't think that area will see much abuse on a mortorcylce
I'm a maritime law enforcement officer and I like the idea of these for work but they need a zip. When you're in the water in full kit one of the first things to ditch is your boots. No time to untie.
Good point! That would be an awesome addition to these boots!!
Get those zips that you lace in in to the main tongue
That's a very cool tracker type mod. I have several beater knives I have wanted to mod. Now I know what I must do. Gerber tracker it is.
I have another brand new Gerber, so I might try it again. If so I will probably make the quarter round more shallow. It would still make great shavings!
@@gearmodder5648 I was thinking the same thing. Yours looks like it does it's job without fail. But you could still swing it without sacrificing so much mass in the blade too. Was never a serrations guy myself, I prefer a saw back. Along with the fence breaker/pot holder notch.
Well. That's a little concerning. I wanted something to keep debris out. Which was the biggest selling point on the desert air force type altamas I bought.. but they're heavy..
Agreed. I wish it was fully gusseted.
Just a comment about laces: If you have brand new leather boots and they came with leather laces my advice is to save them until you get the boot fully broken in, and use paracord or ironlaces for the break in. The reason is while you are breaking that boot in, you want the leather to stretch and form to your foot, but the problem with leather laces is that they stretch, so throughout the day they will be stretching and loosening on you while that leather is breaking, so you'll have to constantly retie them, and by the time you break them in you'll have stretched them all out, maybe broken them, they'll be all thin and sad. Just save them, and they'll look nicer and last longer when you finally put them on. I save them for times when I need to look nice.
Good Advice!!!
Any good for rucking?
For me, I prefer more cusion in the sole for rucking. These are very much like minimalist soles. They do have more support than the lower cut versions, but for rucking I'd say there are better options.
Terrible for rucking.
If you intend to ruck in them I would advise to get your size in wide and get a nice sturdy insole
Which boots are those?
Belleville 770 200g
Do the speed laces feel like they may get flimsy?
No way. The laces that come with the boots will last a very long time. They are very tough. The speed lacing loops are the ones Altama has used on all their boots. They also last forever. I use Paracord for emergency cordage if needed.
@@gearmodder5648 thank you for the insight
Very nice review, I will take the mid ones.
The mid ones are great!
Just an FYI kilties usually have at least 2 sets of holes, they shift / move less that way.
Thanks for the info! I may add another set of holes.
