Newair NCH250SS01 250 Count Humidor with Opti-Temp
Review on the heating function and storage capacity of the Newair 250 count humidor.
Update 4/9/22: I have been monitoring the heating function closely over the last few months. I have 3 temperature sensors inside, all read the same. My house is at 68F and humidor is set to 70F. The readings inside range from 68-69F. If I move the setpoint up to 74F, the display moves up slowly to 74F after a few hours, but all 3 sensors inside still read 68-69F. It appears my unit is not heating at all, even though the display moves up to 74. Maybe I got a bad unit? I'd like to hear from others if their humidor is actually heating. Other than the unit does not heat, I really like it. It's a good size and looks nice.

2014 Chevy Sonic P0597 Fault Code - Thermostat Temperature Sensor

Fixed fault code P0597 by replacing the thermostat and temperature sensor. Most people replace the entire thermostat unit, but I saved some time and cost by just replacing the thermostat and sensor only. I found this part on Amazon for $19. This part at the car parts store is about $90. Easy to replace, about 30min. You'll need an E10 inverted torx socket. I also had to loosen the 4 bolts holdi...

How long is included the trial subscription to the Garmin Pilot App?
Says 30 day trial on their website.
so no issue having the LED low beam and the stock High Beam? Just plug in and go?
No issues, they are separate bulbs and the resistor is built into the LED, just plug it in. Still going strong 3 years later and 15K miles. Love the white light. It's much more visible in daylight too making it safer as others see you better.
i enjoyed your video. good content. was hoping for cigar at the end
Is that a 1.8 L non-Turbo Sonic?
Yes, 1.8L
Thank you very much for your thoughts and demonstration.
Hi. How long did you season for? Did you use 84% boveda by any chance?
I just used the water tray that came with it and wiped down the racks with distilled water. I let it season for 2-3 days. It holds 70% humidity all the time with 2 of the large 320g 72% Boveda bags. The bags last about 6-9 months. I re-use the bags too for a few times. Just let them soak in water for 5 days and they will fill back up.
@@ericfrank9491 thanks 🙏🏼 appreciate the reply
Sorry to bother again but how does one recalibrate the built in hygrometer. I believe mine is showing a +4% rh. I have other hygrometers in there and they are both showing lower. Wasn’t sure if it’s even possible to recalibrate
Not sure, mine was accurate, so never looked into it.
Woah, I'm literally in my garage brainstorming/ researching about bulb replacement on my 09 696. And low and behold it's parked next to my john deere lt133. What the hell? Lol😂
Nice! Love my John Deere.
This heating feature is really bad. I wanted to buy it because i like my rooms in house to be cold but if it cant heat at desired temperature it is too expensive. Thank you for this review!
Nice led strips ! Where did you get them?
Amazon, Govee brand
Thanks for sharing
Did you need resistors with those lights?
Yes, you need to add the resistors otherwise they will flash too fast when the turn signal is on. I used the Sylvania brand resistors and mounted them inside the tail light area.
Thank you for the review. Where did you put your Boveda pack(s) at ?
I have two 320g packs. One upright along the side of the middle shelf and one on top of a box at the back. Still enough room to fit the boxes in with the pack on the side.
Nice 👍🏻
For people that want to change out there Halogen bulbs for a led on the monster. I have a 2009 Monster 1100m. Your low is a H7 and the high beam is a H1 then you have the parking light bulb in the middle. That’s suppose to activate when you turn your key all the way to the left for the park position. Heads up on the led swap. The H7 led plugged right in with the stock plug with no problem but the led for the high beam H1 only has two male plugs so you ether have to spice the wires together which I didn’t want to do our you can order this KOOMTOOM H1 Male Adapter Wiring Harness Socket Wire Single Diode...off Amazon and it works fantastic. No wire cutting you just plug in without any modifications.
If it penetrated 3 water jugs could you really call it over expansion? I think not.
Can you do a video on the led’s
I like the light you add, will you make a video on how you add the lights ? I will like to do that on mine.
I'll do a video in the near future on the lights. The only trick I did was I cut the cord in half, poked a hole in the center of the window seal (top and bottom), then pulled the cord through the seal. Then had to resolder the wires and insulate them with heat shrink. This way the cord is in the seal, not laying in front of the seal creating a small gap. Not sure how much this helps, but there is no gap at all in the seal. It's a bit of extra work but only took 15 minutes. I used the Govee brand LED lights from Amazon (around $15) and stuck them on the metal ledge around the window.
Display is way off, mine I can go up to 73-74 F and in the inside is 70F, If I lower the temperature on the display to 70F the inside is 65F, I already change the cooling kit but still the same, it looks like the logic board is the problem.
I’m running into the same problem. I also noticed that mine wasn’t cooling either. The snowflake light would never come on, until I unplugged it, then plugged it back in. Have you figured anything out with yours?
@@thomassparks7094 honestly I just compensate the difference from the display and to what my hygrometers are saying, I’m leaning to the logic board, is yours still under warranty ? If you are on Facebook we have a small group called the humidor hobbyist, you can see a few modifications to where you can basically rip their system and control it with your own, know if your unit is still under warranty don’t hesitate and give them a call they will make it right.
@@markahdz are you replacing the system for others, or was this just your own?
@@thomassparks7094 I haven’t replace it since mine is under warranty, I changed the cooling kit but it was still doing the same so is the control board but honestly I got tired of waiting so I just compensate the display to what ever is inside the humidor.
Just came across your channel, nice tutorial i too want to change my stock bulb to increase my visibility both being seen and see more. Really liked your windscreen i just got a 2011 696 and doesn’t have the screen which I think I might enjoy. My other upgrade possibly is to add the high beam but with a 3k color bulb again to use during daytime and be seen easier. Nice ride!
Thanks. The windscreen is really nice to have. Works great blocking the wind and helps in cold weather too. It's the Vstream from National Cycle. www.nationalcycle.com/n28214.html
I have this unit. It's good. I bought the 840 several months ago to replace it. I put the 250 in storage, but I'm thinking about taking it out again. The 250 has better air flow in my opinion and if you put a cigar oasis in it, it has superior humidity control too. The 840 has an issue with even humidity through the unit. The temp control on both units is spot on. The only knock I have on the 250 is the loud fans. Edit: I could pack in a lot of boxes in the 250 considering its size. All in all, good unit.
Good to know. I like my 250 a lot except that it doesn't heat, but don't really need the heat now that I keep it on my main floor (not in the basement). It holds humidity well but stays around 68% with 72% Boveda 320g packs in it.
Thanks for being the only reviewer to cover the heating function on the new Newair 250’s. Being that I’m in the NE region and that the heat function models are an extra $100, it was the most important aspect in my decision making between the two 250 variants
Thanks, I could not find any reviews on the heating function either. Newair also refuses to post my detailed review on their website, even after they asked me several times to post a review after I bought it. I submitted it 3 times already. I guess they don't want anyone to know the heating function doesn't work well. I have been watching the heating function closely the last month. If I go from 70F to 74F, the display does climb up to 74 after a few hours, but the 3 sensors I have inside never change from 68F, so it's not really heating at all, just the display changes. Not sure where it's getting its reading from.
Was your fan running for no reason??
No
Awesome video. Couple questions for you. What year is your monster? Gf has a 2018 821 and I'd like to upgrade her light like yours and get the windscreen add on. Hers didn't come with the factory attachment though. Do you have the links for what you used. Looks perfect
My Monster is a 2010. It has the National Cycle Vstream windshield on it. It only fits the 696/796/1100. Not sure if they make one for the 821. I love the screen, originally bought it for cold weather, but leave it on year round now, really cuts down on the wind, especially on the expressway. www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/national-cycle-vstream-tall-touring-windscreen-ducati-monster-6967961100sevo?sku_id=849958
Thanks for the reply. When I wire in the Atto RB stop n tail in parallel with my existing LED stop n tail light, the atto's only come on full (no differential between tail n break, even though, when wired seperately, both sets of lights seem to work fine). Very strange. PS. I have emailed Kellermann to see if they can help.
How did you get the stop and tail lights to work equally and in parallel? What wiring sequence did you use?
All wired in parallel. The brake light wire from the tail light and both turn signals are wired together, same for the running lights.
Newair is garbage. Mine lasted just one year. Month after warranty could not hold temperature…defaulted to lowest temp.
Is that the Samsung A7 Lite?
It's the Tab A 7.0.
I replaced the whole unit and it still pulls and shakes my car
Check thermostat sensor on radiator mines jerks every so often
I had to replace the mass airflow sensor to stop the pulling and shaking
Why do you think people replace the whole housing?
Every video I looked for this fault code showed them replacing the entire housing. I didn't see where they just replaced the thermostat.
@@ericfrank9491 right thats what I am saying. Why would you even want to replace the entire housing?
@@xVoidCypher because the rest of the housing is plastic & becomes brittle I believe that Dorman makes that whole piece metal so there is no more plastic from where you take the thermo Stat out of
I changed the entire housing
1463 fps 125 grain bullet = 357 mag performance out of a 4 inch.... amazing
No what is amazing is the 357 Sig Underwood 65 gr XD round that gets rifle velocity out of a 4 inch barrel, 2100 fps that is amazing!
Same issue with the heat. Expected it to do a better job with the heat range. 2 degrees above ambient temperature is at most what you'll get. Nice touch with the LED's. Which ones did you use?
I have the Govee brand light strip from Amazon, $24. For a better seal through the door seal, I cut the cable in half close to the connector, then stripped back the cable sheath, cut a small hole in the door seal and pushed the tiny wires through the seal, then soldered them back together. www.amazon.com/dp/B07N1CMGQQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@@ericfrank9491 I think that's your next video my friend! Thanks for sharing.
"Overexpansion". I do not believe that is a problematic on a handgun round.
Over expansion can be an issue as the round won't penetrate as far if it over expands. However in this test it went through 3 water jugs, so appears the velocity is enough to push it to the proper penetration.
@@ericfrank9491 I understand what you are saying. In a real life defensive scenario I want as much of the energy dumped into the target as possible. Personally speaking, I am not concerned if it over expands and I don't care if it even shreds a pedal or two as it passes into the target. Multiple wound channels are not a bad thing in a life and death shoot. There are many variables that come into play but most human targets are not more than 16" at any point. Keep up the good work with the videos!!
I agree, I want the most energy also which is why I carry the 357sig. I think it's a great round as long as you can shoot it well with the additional recoil.
Do you think the larger Kuryakyn Bullet 1000 (3 in 1) can decently replace the brake light? I live in CA
That's a different model than the Atto. The Atto's are brighter than my tail light, however I don't know anything about the Bullet 1000. The instructions say they are not DOT compliant. I did find this review on Dennis Kirk: "I feel like the tail running lights might be too dim on their own without a center tail light... I don’t think I would run these as tail/brake lights on their own. I installed them on a motorcycle that only had a single tail light and two separate turn signals for the back that did not serve as a running lights. I put these on so I would have more visibility with the intention of removing the brake light but I’m not so sure I would want to do that anymore."
@@ericfrank9491 Gotcha, thank you Eric!
Did it make your car keep starting
I love the HST and .357Sig. It would be nice to be able to buy the projectiles. Impressive penetration for the amount of expansion. Thanks for the video.
How hot does the heat sink get?
I used the Sylvania 24W heat sinks: www.sylvania-automotive.com/sylvania-led-load-resistor-2-pack/LOADRSL.BX2.html Mounted them under the seat and bolted them to the metal fender cover: id.glock.com/assets/feed-posts/full-110811-9997773-RR.jpg
Now I know my Monster can fit LED. Thanks 🙏🏻
Welcome!
Pretty hot one...
Thanks! Two questions, why not change out the high beam too? Is the high also an H7, or is that why you didn’t change it as well?
The high beam is an H1, not H7, plus the back cover of the headlight is slanted, not as much room for the high beam bulb. Not sure if this style LED would fit.
@@ericfrank9491 it does fit . I put a H7 for the low and H1 as a high beam. Both leds were Sylvania. I have a 2009 Ducati monster 1100m. Incredible light at night now. Lol I will tell you if you change out the high beam H1 your going to need to buy a KOOMTOOM H1 Male Adapter Wiring Harness Socket Wire you can buy that on Amazon. That’s because the led comes in a two wire male ends and without the adapter you would have to cut and splice the wires together to get it to work. With the adapter you don’t. Works like a charm.
I have a Ducati Monster 2009 1100m. I changed both bulbs to the Sylvania led. They have inline resisters already on them. You have two different bulbs a H7 for your low and a H1 for your high beam. You need a adapter for the H1 to be able to connect to the wire harness. I didn’t want spice the wire so I bought the adapter.KOOMTOOM H1 Male Adapter Wiring Harness Socket Wire. You can find it on Amazon.
Hello Mr Eric, is the windshield frame stock with Extended glass?
No, I added the windshield. Works great and fits perfect. It's the V-Stream by National Cycle: www.nationalcycle.com/n28214.html
@@ericfrank9491 Sir, I’m getting so much wind turbulence on my 696 on the freeway goin 70+ mph . Does this makes difference on that?
@@bigdwagsafal I commute 60 miles a day to work everyday on the Monster, all at 70+ mph. That's why I got the windshield. Works great. Also keeps me warmer in cold tempertures. @@ericfrank9491 thank you so much!
Great video, I just bought the same ones and didn’t realize they were tail light brake light and turn signals, did you have to run a resister? My instructions say to run one wire to the tail light one to the brake light and only the ground to the turn signal ground how will this make my turn signals work ?
Did you buy the version with turn signal and brake lights? The have 3 versions: turn signals only, running light and brake light, and turn signal, running light, and brake light. Sounds like you have the running light and brake light version, no turn signal. You need 4 wires for the brake light, running light, and turn signal version. I did use a resistor as my bike did not have LED lights originally. If your bike came with LED lights, then you do not need a resistor.
Can you send the link of these bulbs?

Hey Eric, I switched out my reverse lights with LED. It was a huge improvement.
