Open All Hours Filming Locations (Doncaster) - Then and Now (Series 2)
Filming locations for Series 2 of the classic British sitcom 'Open All Hours'. Open All Hours ranked eighth in the 2004 Britain's Best Sitcom poll, and Series 2 aired in 1981, almost 40 years ago now. This video is a follow-up to my Series 1 video and shows the filming locations used in Series 2 around the Doncaster area.
Unlike Series 1 I have identified all the locations used in Series 2, with the possible exception of the Church used in the wedding scene which is a 'best guess' based on the windows and the fact it was used in earlier episodes. I attempted to get hold of the parish records for the church (it is now a private residence) but the Doncaster archives are currently unavailable due to relocation.
Locations include Lister Avenue (the shop and Nurse Glady's house), various streets around Balby and Edlington, Doncaster, along with several scenes around the east of the Town Centre.
I will be working on Series 3 & 4 shortly, which will be a combined video as there were considerably fewer external shots in the last 2 series, plus a lot of them are repeats of locations shown in these first 2 videos.
Hope you enjoy!

This is awesome. Thanks for sharing. Subscribed.
Amazing series absolutely amazing extremely unique
Awful music...
I'll always class Doncaster as my second home. For years I always wanted to visit "The shop" and did a few years ago. Best series ever.
Thank you this is really interesting!
I couldn't believe it when I saw the Balmoral Hotel, I used to walk past it regularly on the way to school (DGS) and the later on going to the Salutation.
Can u imshine living on the street? Lol or better still actually living in nurse Gladys house? I'd love to live there, you would feel so close to the characters, then popping in the shop across the road to have a haircut lol
That Last Picture, Can't Believe How High Those Tree's Have Grown.
This is amazing. Thanks so much for taking the time to compile this. The original Open All Hours is one of my all time favourites from the 70s & 80s. Great to see the filming locations now, although a little sad that those days have long since gone.
Open all hours and drum and bass. Ruined
Appreciate your hard work here. Thank you.
Really enjoyed this. It's quite sad when you look at the areas where the late great Ronnie Barker, Lynda Baron and all other marvellous actors and actresses stood and now they're no longer with us. Great comedy. Happier days.
Captioning needs slowing a little. Have to keep starting and stopping the video to read.
3 & 4 pleasseeeee!
This is magical providing information regarding a programme that means so much to many. Living in New Zealand and remember watching Arkright with Mum and Dad and brings back great memories. Still open all hours is marvellous and its great the memories live on. Thank You marvellous effort and in years to come as things change more this will be invaluable for historians.
We went and looked at the shop, it’s a real poor area
We lived in Mona road around the corner. God what a depressing hole it was.
this before and after tour guide view of open all hours memorable scenery made me cry
Loved these location shots ! Did you do 3 and 4 mate ?
Maybe choose music that has something to do with the series or the people that like it rather than this trash drum and bass
RIP Linda Baron aka Nurse Gladys sadly passed away today aged 82.
Great video! Really interesting to see the before and after shots. I'm a location buff myself so I'm always fascinated by things like this. Any plans on doing season 3/4 or are they pretty much the same? I'm currently watching the show and just started season 2!
clips slightly to fast, but interesting.....
The music I'd pathetic
I drive past the shop everything I go visit my grandparents
It’s certainly look nicer back in the day now it looks a right shit hole
I live in Balby so I will of probably walked past one of these locations at some point
The pilot was shot on locations in London.
The Pilot episode was transmitted on 25th March 1973.
Doesnt evetyhing look so much nicer, quieter and less hectic back then. No cars everywhere and i bet everyone spoke to each other. Now look at everything. I was born to late.
Amazing
Very very interesting thank you so much
I'm the sort of guy that hates change in life! But i find this so interesting. Thank you so much for such a lovely video
Arkwright's shop was my Aunty Freida's, back then. My cousin's grew up there. Terrific stuff, cheers👍
Brilliant Thanks for this 👍😊
Awful back ground music
Awesome. I lived a few minutes walk from 'Arkwright's shop' Still living in the Doncaster area. I know all the locations you have shown.
High Street looks like it has seen better days in the 70’s but interesting nonetheless
A lot more cars today (but sadly no Vauxhall Vivas with L plates), but the actual shop has seen a sad decline hasn't it. There surely ought to be a blue plaque put on it
My dad's cousin lives five minutes away in Old Hexthorpe. Wish videos like this had been around the last time I was down there, I'd have gone along for a nosey! :D
Brings back some memories of when I used to go to the shops in edlington near there and get my uncles 10 park drive
Great job
Street signage everywhere. Not to mention hundreds of cars filling the entire streets and of course, road works or road closed etc etc. The older pictures of the place look so much better, even if a bit duller looking.
The dedication to this project is clear. Great stuff. Thanks.
Great work👍 looking forward to series 3
This has been on my mind for some years, when you watch the series it looks so dated ,almost sudo Victorian. When it was filmed in the late seventies . All the windows and doors were original, and nobody painted there houses that often as diy was not fashionable and the 70 year old paint with lead in it protected them the colour went dull. Then came the 80s double glazing revolution, and windows were sold with small openings, usually based on a salesman saying that they were more secure. There was no thought about design or symmetry. Now it all grey paint.
It's amazing isn't it. Everyday nothing changes but when you look back everything has changed
Well put. Summed up what was going through my mind.
Great but too fast, can't see the locations and read the descriptions quick enough, slow it down and change the music
Totally agree with this, rewinding and pausing needs to be slower. Thanks for doing these though. I actually thought the shots with the legs were in the park off Balby Road didn't realise it was Elmfield Park.
Good but the musac???
Episode 3 Roadside cafe ua-cam.com/video/N2pJGqj1Pb0/v-deo.html appears in episodes of Still open All hours!
