Going into labour in a car-centric capitalist hellscape
This is the opening scene of season 3, episode 8 of The Bear, which is set in the stolen land “Chicago” is on. Natalie is pregnant and has just gone into labour. You’re not gonna wanna be going into labour during rush hour. If she had decided to call an ambulance, the ambulance would have had to contend with this dead stop traffic too. I’ve seen ambulances stuck in traffic all the time in my city. This is the result of a state that values profit for the rich over everything.
If she lived in a 15-minute city, getting to the hospital or birth centre would be a triviality. In this capitalist car-centric hellscape, she has to drive herself to the capitalist hospital which serves “worthy” people who can afford its services for profit.

We're shutting down streets in protest of violence against cyclists
Переглядів 2,1 тис.14 днів тому
The cops’ go-to strategy for actions like this is to block all the surrounding streets to ensure as few people as possible interact with or see the action. They did the same thing when Indigenous folks blockaded the road to a nearby landfill in protest of the government’s decision to leave MMIWGs’ remains in the dump without any serious effort to search the landfill. With this many people, we c...
5 tips for biking in a car-centric city

What other tips y’all got? It takes time to learn how to navigate car-centric cities on a bicycle, but don’t be scared! Well, don’t be too scared-being a little scared is probably wise. You can learn, too. After some time it becomes second nature, just like driving can. And in my opinion, an e-bike helps a ton for multiple reasons.

On taking up space as a cyclist
Переглядів 1,8 тис.8 місяців тому
Bike infrastructure is car infrastructure. Just like sidewalks, just like pedestrian overpasses or underpasses-it all exists to get people out of the way of cars. In a less car-centric city, cyclists and pedestrians would not be barred from using huge swaths of space. We wouldn’t be navigating a complex obstacle course hopping between tiny islands of safety. Reclaiming that space as a cyclist i...

Decentering private vehicles should be our top priority
Переглядів 12110 місяців тому
When we truly decentre private vehicles, we’ll scarcely have a need for cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, because people will mostly just be able to walk, roll, and bike wherever they want. The idea that special infrastructure is required for people to walk or bike comes from a car-centric view where huge swaths of our towns and cities are for cars, not people. Don’t forget what the “prote...

This is only going to get worse. Bikes are much better off not being on the road at all, What you are doing is not constructive and certainly not ‘action’. Bikers will continue to be hit regardless of how many roads you block off. This group wants to be heard and respected and good on them for that. In a disagreement, I always try to see the other sides perception, and I’ve found that some people think with more logic than emotion(right) and others use more emotion than logic (left) And I think that this group is clearly using they’re emotions to get they’re point across, this is just more of an f u to drivers than anything. An example of Violence against a biker would be sticking a stick in theyre spokes or intentionally hitting them with their car. Isn't this just going to encourage more violence? I'm a cyclist but this is just stupid. There are people who need to learn when to not use a road. Developing manners is more important than saying "well technically by the law." A few deeply autistic cyclists are responsible for violent sentiments the rest of us have to bear. And now you've just doubled down on being rude. And also calling it "our streets" instead of recognizing that you are a guest in a system primarily designed for other purposes. The problem is 40% of cyclists need an absolute reality check. The rest of us have common sense. Roads are for cars, and sometimes us when it is reasonable, deal with it. If you want to improve driver/cyclist relations talk to the cyclists who can't get the program or have been indoctrinated to think otherwise by loons.

If you want local residents to support your initiative to create safe infrastructure for cyclists, the last thing you want to do is to make those residents mad at you and your group. If you're ignored, why not block the city administration from comming to work to make them actually pay attention to the issue? You also mentioned that traffic jams prevent the emergency vehicles to pass through. Have you ever thought that blocking private vehicles leads to traffick accumulation that would do the same thing?

I respect cyclists, I always give them room and respect they’re space, and if there was safer, separate paths I would be in favour of using a bike as opposed working my life away for fuel, insurance, vehicle payments etc however blocking off roads only creates separation and frustrating the people who drive. You need to get your point across using other means. Frustrating drivers will only hurt you in the end, they will have less patience and give you less respect by what you are doing, unfortunately for bikers the car wins every time in accidents, so your the way I see it your only hurting yourself

Don't you think marching or riding would be a better form of protest? Ideally, you would propose specific improvements to the pertinent authorities and work with local news media to report on both the protests and the proposals. After all, the goal is to improve road safety, not to "raise awareness" and then wait for the same authorities who built the car infested hellscape to come up with solutions.

Movements like this do the contrary of what people think it does. It simply pushes people who hate the cause (here car drivers who hate cyclists on the road) to hate it even more. And I say this as a cyclist myself.

Yeah I think so, too. Cars make much more damage then bikes if both sides escalate. And the Uploader seems to like that... As everyone can see: Idiots on both sides.
