I like you guys, really I do. But the quality of ROP S2 is disappointing. I’m not saying this as a lifelong Tolkienista. I’m saying this as a lifelong consumer of quality TV and movies. The logical incongruities, plot holes, erratic scene jumping, multiple slow moving story arcs when nothing much happens all season long, combined with the very obvious decision to dump the whole season budget into the battle instead of the people and costumes make for very poor story telling. Sure, sure, there’s a lot missing from the second age. BUT there was a timeline and we do know what happened to some of these characters. The least the writers could have done is stick to those two things. They could have satisfied the newbies and the gamers easily and still made it coherent without destroying what motivates these characters. They didn’t. Your praise of the series is unjustified based just on screenwriting and story telling. Sorry.

Nonsexual, nonromantic kissing traditions might make a good topic for the Rituals podcast. :) On top of its being a distracting gesture, I read it as an emotional moment between friends who are reconciling and may never see each other again. I was a bit thrown by the Nine being impervious to fire...I think that's a throwback to season 1, where something "so evil" can take the heat out of fire. Presumably Sauron is still warm-blooded, though. 😅 I do wish people would stop using "animal" to mean non-sentient, non-conscious, and unworthy of moral consideration. I understand that may have been Tolkien's line re: the orcs, but we should know better now. Sentience, consciousness, and sapience are common if not universal among animals, and probably among other beings as well.

I really felt Annatar's line to Celebrimbor: "One last time." Pitiless indeed. Chilling delivery by Charlie Vickers, and heartbreaking reaction from Charles Edwards. I think I realized this episode that it wasn't pure invention when Annatar said that his and Celebrimbor’s deceit tainted the dwarven rings. Encouraging Celebrimbor faults (his vanity, his willingness to lie and to drive others in pursuit of his own ends) might be one of the ways that the rings are corrupted. I love that when Sauron firsts proposes making rings for men, Celebrimbor objects because of how "covetous" and easily corrupted they are, unlike elves. Says the elf who lives to surpass his grandfather and who's already in Sauron's thrall! Also, just putting it out there: I suspect Halbrand already forged the One Ring at the end of season one, using the Southlands sigil. Could be very wrong. 😅 It seems we get a glimpse of its making when Pharazon looks into the palantir, and he doesn't seem to be seeing visions of the future. It just seems to me like something the writers would do--have it forged "in secret" even from the audience and those who know the books. And that way the One and the elven rings would be forged at the same time, albeit at the beginning rather than the end.

While taking nothing away from this fantastic season overall, I did feel robbed by the "and they all lived..." ending for Terminus. The ending of e9 was so magnificent, all the actors sold it so well, and foundation is about the great sweep of time not individuals' endings, it seems wrong to swipe all that away from us. So many shows thu time have done the "and they all lived happily ever after" trope. This show sould have done different and the actors/writers created the perfect foundation to accept that truth.

If it wasn't for Demerzel apparently seeing the destruction, and the Foundation not yet having contact with Mentalics, I'd be holding out hope for the destruction of Terminus being a projection.

I think your Spacer revulsion is all you. Personally I find them extremely attractive. Considering the popularity of things like Cyberpunk, I don't think I'm alone.

I found Seldon's Hober Malo play to be very weak, especially for a predictive genius. Offering to replace empire as a provider of the mineral with themselves, swapping one master for another, a devil they know for one they don't, is not much of an offer, especially when a far better alternative is obvious,.. just GIVE the spacers the knowledge to make it, right there and then, no strings attached. Regardless of whether the spacers then ally with the foundation, freeing them from empire is bound to be extremely disruptive. That would be an "offer" they could not and would not refuse. In fact, if all the spacers returned to the swarm, Empire would be limited to sub light and could never get to terminus to get the whisper ship technology. Only Spacers and the foundation would have it. Empire would fall immediately. So why make a much weaker offer? Why refuse a scenario that would instantly defeat Empire? I cannot think of a reason Seldon wants the deal to fail but he clearly does. OR this is plot armor,.. ignored because the writers would have painted themselves into a series ending corner.
