Finally found a video that actually makes fkn sense. Thanks bro. Just subscribed liked and shared this video
This is exactly what i needed
Thanks man. Nice, clean and helpfull. Well done ;)
I installed a new starter and it makes a sort of whirring noise when turning on why
Надо было стартером покрутить до регулировки и после регулировки.
Чтоб звук услышать.
Thanks
I'm doing as soon as the part arrives from ebay. I have the exactly same bike. Great video...Thanks.
Glad it helped
Was that a fat boy starter or a slim? I have the same offset but a slim starter. I'm beginning to think I've got the wrong starter for my 350 small block(original vehicle unknown)
The actual size of the motor shouldn't matter, you either have the one where the bolts or staggers or on-line which I believe depends on flywheel tooth count. Your block may have either holes tapped for both type starters but it's possible you have the wrong one
I did 0.153 shim to outside bolt and still was not able to close distance? 3rd starter in 7 months….I guess next is to remove some material from starter mounting area….
I just put a wash between my block and starter on the outside to shim it closer to the flexplate. Same same, but different.
That didn't last long. I ended up just getting shims off amazon.
Da uma força aí também no canal do UA-cam jesus vem
Thanks for making this bro, I'm a broke mofo that only can afford to ride a motorcycle ATM so I looked to see how doable this would be to fix myself and you saved my bacon. I especially appreciate it because I see you're not a UA-camr per se you are just a good Samaritan
Clutch cable on my '06 Ninja 500 broke suddenly today. This is going to prove INVALUABLE. Thank you!!
Glad I was able to help someone!
gud viDO - btw if your starter is slow to disengage - cud that be oncontraire it’s 2 close to flXpl8?
I recently installed a new starter. The problem is the starter is free spinning. I've changed the battery terminals and installed a new battery. When I hooked up the new terminals to the battery. The starter is not engaging. What could be the problem.
If you pull the starter out and hook a battery to the terminals on a bench you can make sure that the shaft is actually pushing out. Otherwise too many shims will also cause no engagement
I went through 3 starters before doing this last year. I wished I saw this years ago. I cut 2/3 of the shim off and hot glued four together in order to properly shim my 454. Stupid Chevy blocks.
Hi! The allen key is 1/8? Dont speak too much english so i barely can hear you. Thnx
Yes, 1/8 in.
Nice, thanks mate.
My buddy's 72 elcamino with a 454 is the same, big gap! Ive never had to replace a starter on any of my old chev cars only the fords. Thanks for the info!!! Man these cars are cool as hell.
Thank God someone who actually shows how to shim it on one side to close the gap and which side is the correct side to add them! Every other video I've seen was either add them to both or take away from both. Going to climb back under her now and do this to close the gap right now, thank you!
Did it work
@@jonhsmith2706 yes
My starter is doing the exact same thing. Will definitely try this method but how did you fold your shims? Did you get two shims? Thanks.
the shims i had are thin enough metal that I was able to fold them with a pair of pliars.
Best visual of this I have seen. Many thanks
Would've been nice to see you try and start it.🤷♂️
Best demonstration I've seen, this is what I needed to know and how I needed to see it, thank you.
+1.... Exactly... Good camera angles, clear concise explanation...💯
That’s exactly what I did today. Just shimmed the outer bolt to bring closer to flexplate. I thought I was doing somthing wrong. 👍🏻
Thank you for that!!
Perfect explanation!
I have no shims added and I have a 3/16th gap on G.M. starter. Thank you for showing how to shim just one side to bring my starter into the correct 1/8th gap. Thank You!
Thanks for the info man!
Thank you it worked perfectly
hello I need your urgent help ... send this message using the google translator because I do not speak English so I don't know if it is understood ... My problem is this, I have a Chevrolet v6 229 that suddenly began to break the cover of the starts . Have the engine flywheel or "flexplate" repaired and when you turn it on, the starter locks and generates force ... what can it be (the boot has its respective shims) what is the distance in "centimeters" that should be the start? , will it be necessary to use 3 shims or more? ??
Im sorry its kinda hard to understand the translation, but how you say it "locks" sounds like the starter its self is bad. The measurement for the gap is one eighth of an inch. Hope this helps
The clearance needed in metric is about 9.5mm..
1/8th of a inch = .125 of a inch = 3.175 mm
GREAT VIDEO MAN, JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. THANKS
on my 72 c10 3 shims were to many and 2 were not enough. I cut the 3rd one in half and used it on the outside bolt like you showed and the truck fired right up. thanks a lot.
glad to here it!
