continuous big waves with a powerful tide didn´t let go out. First, I tried to quit the wave, because I felt like there wasn´t speed. But, it was too late. The tide was to strong and created very fast the waves. It surprised me, because, other times was very easy to go out.

A lot of carpenters were asked to make the handwork, but, no one wanted to do It. When I asked my old friend to build them, he denied first time, but, second time, seeing me desperated, he said yes. So, when these unique handmade stands were finished I was so Happy that I wanted to sare It in my Channel with all the people Who Can be interested in build something like them as example to see. Luanch somewhere where there is no shore break, if available. If not, get out through the break and stay out there until the end of your session.

  • @yakinsea
    @yakinsea 2 роки тому

    Here's my take as an intermediate surfski paddler, but advanced sea kayaker. Each emphasize different things but has relevance to the other discipline. Boat stability comes from body position that can be seen by minimal deviation of the head over the longitudinal center-line and from upper body separation from the lower body - being relaxed. Also, from paddle support as one paddles. And also from paddle support when the first two fails - bracing. Basically one remains centered with strong paddle support, which means you should always have on blade touching the water, on the ready, even when re-entering with legs not yet in. I've slowed the video down and saw your head going back and forth - side to side. When in trouble, I saw reliance on adjusting body position without engaging the paddle..I saw timid paddle plants, often not fully burying the blade. I saw no per-emtive paddle support used meaning an early light touch - momentary low brace that would have saved the day before the need for an aggressive slap brace, which wasn't attempted. I've struggled recently, too, with some age related balance issues and had to sort things out. Luckily I have the brace thing down without having to think about it, so I rarely go in. I figured out that when on top of the wave with sudden boat control/balance problems to do two things that helped. 1. Plant super aggressively, don't be afraid to make a splash. Where in the past I would do a quick brace, stay upright but miss the wave, now I have more and earlier power and find that the plant is a form of brace! 2. Don't worry if the boat suddenly tilts over uncomfortably as long as my head is centered and I remain loose. The boat will self center with good stroke dynamics and no brace is required. Work on getting more power from torso rotation beginning as early as possible. Rotate around your center-line with minimal side to side arm paddling. Exit the stroke earlier, which will increase stroke cadence with each stroke giving support on the catch. This means more frequent support from the higher stroke rate as well as not lifting water that also diminishes stability. But, when trouble comes, extend the stroke back while flattening the blade with a slight lean onto it for support. It's quick as a flash, super stable, and is available on each stroke. I saw you leaning away with no paddle support. Lean in to the trouble side and onto the blade. The better your body position and the stronger your catch, the less you'll need recovery maneuvers.

    Why such a Long Leash? The place I purchased my surfski from sold me one that attaches in the bucket and wraps around my thigh. Is one better than the other? I noticed my V10 has an attachment near the stern but not my stellar.

    • @r.g.s.8737
      @r.g.s.8737 2 роки тому

      My leash is attached to a little metal piece screwed in the bucket just under the legs. It's wraps around my leg just under the knee joint. Just for no bother your knee movement. Long leash give you time for respond in case you fall down in breakings. If leash is short the pull on your leg could hurt you if you fall and the rough waters drag the surfski away from you. My leash is made on spiral so the lenght in normal position is shorter than when is working when I fall down. But, I think it's made for SUP paddling.

    If too high up the wave rudder comes out of the water and its all over. Once you have gone fully into broach, lean and brace into wave, so you dont fall out and ride it to beach. If the wave hasnt fully broken you may be able to spin the boat completely around and head back over it letting it pass under you. Ideally you avoid breaking impact zone and accelerate to be in front of the wave, if you cant pull out before it breaks. Ocean skis are not really designed for riding breakers and if you keep doing it you risk damage to ski. Spec skis are the boat for riding breakers in. Large surf rudders will increase your margins of control

      Thank you very much!!! I'm going to follow your tips. Now, time to work in it and have fun doing It. It's my fault that I love surfing breaking waves. Some of my partners only wait for me in the safe place on water till I finish😅😅.

      Good tips, only thing I’d reinforce is don’t stop paddling once the white water starts catching up - you need to be accelerating at that point: white water means bubble means lack of steerage. Another thing I noticed - you were leaning forwards towards the end, try leaning backwards to put weight on the stern.

    The ski can only turn about 20 degrees off the heading of the wave before the wave pushes it side ways. You have a large boat being pushed side ways by the wave and only a small rudder.

    • @mattbrading1188

      When you surf down the wave, as you get to the bottom of the wave, just before it breaks, paddle hard. This gets your rudder out of the impact zone and prevents it from getting turned about by the wave. By being ahead of the wave when it first breaks, you stay in control of the steering and the wave can't throw you sideways. Hope this helps💪
