SHORTEST KAYAK FISHING MISSION EVER! WAY Too Much Current To Fish! Kayak Fishing Narrow Neck

This mornings mission was supposed to be hard and fast to catch a feed on a beautiful glassy 5 knot day. Hard and fast it was. Glassy and 5 knots, it was not! 5/6 forecasts predicted less than 5 knots, 1 predicted greater than 10 knots.. Turns out the 1 predicting greater than 10 knots was bang on! Hi there nice video thank you, will a trolley fit in the 400 do you know?
@@Straightshooterx71x hey man, I don't believe they fit in the older 400 models, but they should fit in the new 400 models which have a larger front hatch. Watch my video on my Viking reload setup to see how to make it fit on an old 400

thanks for the video, its great. I am considering buying a Viking (or Hobie, for the sake of having free hands while fishing). Could not decide between Viking Profish reload vs Profish GT ultra stable. The GT is wider and probably more stable than reload. Is that correct. Thanks.
@@khalidalbagdadymd4081 hey bro glad you enjoyed the video. The GT is wider and likely more stable, but will be slower and more difficult to paddle through the water. Although the reload is narrower, it is by no means unstable. On a calm day you can stand up in the realod and fish on your feet
Can I do shallow water slider fishing on a kayak horizontally, thank you...
What do you mean by horizontally? Like casting it ahead
@@DeltaKayakFishingNZ Yes, casting ahead (using lighter head about 15 grams), because I'm fishing at about 5 meters depth, thank you...
@@alivefaserce5055 I have not tried casting a slider before but definitely give it a go. I have fished them vertically in 7 meters with success so you may be okay to fish vertically in 5 meters too
@@DeltaKayakFishingNZ I will try both casting and fishing vertically :))
Fantastic video mate
Thanks Angus much appreciated
Hey bro, great video. Im looking at buying a Viking but don’t know if I want to get a pedal kayak, what are your thoughts on them?
Hey bro, I'd say it largely depends on where you'll be fishing. For example pedal kayaks are a no go launching through surf etc. Ive not used one myself but think they would be pretty good. I think they can be quite a bit heavier too - something to think about
Great video, mate! Really helpful for me as a fellow Reload owner. Our set-ups are similar but I was happy to hear about the Chill Pod and I love the use of rings at your accessory attach points.
Thanks a lot bro, I'm glad you were able to take something from it!
How far are from shore do you have boat people in case you get into trpuble
No I will often go out alone, a few kilometers off shore. I always take two forms of waterproof, easily accessible communication (vhf radio, cellphone in waterproof case) should I get into trouble.
Hi, how do you transport your kayak? Do you use a car with roof racks? If so how do you load and unload the kayak, thanks.
Hey Nick, yeah I just use normal roof racks and transport it upside down on the racks. I will try to get a video up of how I get it on/off my car if that helps
@DeltaKayakFishingNZ Awesome if you could do a video, I just got a reload kayak and yeah it's pretty heavy compared to my old kayak 😄
Thinking of heading to army bay for the first time tomorrow. Any tips? Swell is from the north will that make it tough?
Nah man conditions look beautiful out there tomorrow. What time you launching? I generally fish the shallows during sunrise then make my way straight out to 15-20m
Sweet. Going to try and hit the water at 7. Coming from the city so will depends on traffic
@@truckernz82 good luck out there bro let us know how you get on
Love your work buddy 👍 what size diameter gomexus is that, 41mm, 38mm, or 35mm?
Thanks bro. From memory they're both 38mm diameter

@@bradennzl1230 yeah definitely worth it in my opinion
good stuff - been planning similar video myself.
Thanks mate always good to share some knowledge. Can learn from everyone
nice size fish. Have not fished up there yet
Army bay is a great spot for good sized snapper over the colder months
I have to disagree with most of what you said these kayaks are very stable when I used to do.self rescue on mine I had to basically fall into the water to get it to tip over yes sure they are on the heavier side but a really good stable platform they are also fairly quick I have owned other kayaks in the past but will stick with these they are comfortable the longest I have been out on my 1 was about 10 hours never had any aches or pains while I was out there or when I came back in as you said everyone has their own opinion which is fair enough and this is mine after owning 2 of these units
Hundred percent my friend, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I'm all for that. Just giving information purely on what I thought. They're great in calm weather but when the seas get up I found it to be pretty sketchy. Thanks for your feedback though. I guess it further backs up my point in saying that they are a great entry level kayak.
Nice video. I'm looking at getting one of those flags. I like to turtle a lot in the surf haha do think this would break it
My new locals are all westcoast so I fear the same for me! The flag is comprised of 3 sections so I would just use one section which would make it considerably smaller and less likely to cause damage
Thanks mate. Great vid. As someone starting out I really like the ‘training and tips and tricks content you do. Most other local content is basically just guys catching and showing off big fish. As a newbie I’m keen to learn the skills so really appreciate your work.
Thanks Dean, really appreciate that comment. I'm glad you found it helpful. Keep an eye out for more of these types of videos in the near future. As always if you have any questions at all drop a comment and I'll do my best to assist
Great vid. Insightful
Glad you found it helpful
Great vid mate with some great tips, cheers for posting
Thanks Steve glad you enjoyed
Some excellent tips mate , love the SS ring idea for more clips. Need to get a sea anchor like yours mines far bulkier and goes in my chill pod.
Yeah I've heard some sea anchors are mammoths.. Highly recommend the Rob Fort sea anchor
Same as mine but I've got the bixby and use a fish bag, don't like those chill pods, awesome kayaks
Fair enough bro each to their own 🤙
😉 same kayak and similar setup. Keep going mate
Nice bro thanks!
Some beauties there and can’t beat the sound of a screaming reel. Tell me how do you manage to turn your white NAV light off after sun is up when it’s at the back of the Kayak. Or is it left on and the camera does not pick it up.
Nothing beats the sound of a screaming reel! The nav light stays on, pays to have rechargeable batteries for it
Awesome! Good to have you back. Must be nice to be out👍
Thanks bro yeah absolutely stoked to have been able to get out finally
Great to see you back man 🎉

Word of warning to people who may not have caught a snapper befor they bite really really hard
They sure do mate, especially in shallow water
Nice bro, What VHF are you using?
Thanks bro, i have been using the Cobra HH350 for the last few years with no complaints
It's 9 months now? Where are the videos? LOL

Which side in narrow neck is this spot bro when you launching off there
I launch and always head to the Takapuna side bro
@Delta Kayak Fishing NZ mean bro might try in the a.m tomorrow
@@davidcocker5795 good luck my man
Hi bud. Great video. Have you caught anything out te atatu ? Where is the best spot for kayak fish in Auckland u rekon?
Hey mate, thank you. I've not fished Te Atatū before. I mostly fish Narrow Neck and Army Bay - Narrow Neck i will always be guaranteed a feed of pannies, Army Bay I generally catch much bigger snapper, but fewer of them if that makes sense
Hey bro just brought me kayak be keen to meet up keen to get some tips out there bro nice catch bro
Hey bro congrats on the purchase you won't regret it! I'm not in Auckland anymore :( but I highly recommend you join the North Shore Kayak Fishing Club. Great group of people with pleanty of knowledge
@Delta Kayak Fishing NZ thanks bro I fish of the rocks those areas you go to but thought I dip in the water see what's good first time kayaking looking forward on some good catches and will check out the team . Cheers
@@davidcocker5795 nice bro how do you usually get on fishing from the rocks?
@@DeltaKayakFishingNZ usually berly of the rocks
Love the vid mate. Do you ever do any mech jigging from the yak? Shoot me a message if you're ever looking for someone to come along, local to Army Bay and always keen for a paddle 🤙
Thanks mate! Yeah I do occasionally but generally go out to target big reds. I'd love to but recently relocated to the Manawatū! Need to find my feet down here
Hey bro... Loving the advice my man... Hey do you use a fish finder? Or do you have a particular spot where you know where fish at?
Thank you bro glad you are able to take something from it. I use a fish finder but mainly to mark spots, track drift speed, water temp, contour lines etc. Rarely do I catch fish when fish are marked, and often catch them when there is nothing on the sounder! But may well be due to my lack of experience/knowledge in the use of them to mark fish
If you know you know!
Only the best!
Depends where you buy it from…
Got that UA-cam drag 🤣🤣🤣
Haha all for entertainment 😂
Great video bro. I was thinking I got a softbait reel I want to use for snapper but it’s only got 10 pound braid on it would that be ok for shallow water fishing or not?
Thanks bro! 10-15lb braid is ideal in my opinion. With a 20lb leader and you're away laughing. Just make sure your drag isn't set too tight.
@@DeltaKayakFishingNZ yeah right thank you
Hi I was just wondering is narrow neck tidal because I was thinking about going there and I was wondering if it is good on a certain tide
I have always caught fish on both the incoming and outgoing tides at narrow neck
@@DeltaKayakFishingNZ oh ok thanks mate I might try to go out next weekend the weather is looking 6-7 knots the whole day
@@levileith3318 nice man best of luck
hi I am a keen young kayak fisherman and I am based at waiake torbay and have recently been getting some nice fish around there and even got a ten pounder and my legal limit for snaps the other week but would like to try some other spots would you have any suggestions
First off great snapper for the area! My two go to spots are Narrow Neck and Army Bay. Narrow Neck produces pannies for me year round which is nice. Army Bay can be a bit slower but I've caught countless fish over 10lb there including one or two over 20lb
@@DeltaKayakFishingNZ ok wil try those spots out
Hey mate, Im just about to buy my first yak! what did you think of the elite 4? I see your now using a viking profish 400.
Hey Billy. I started with the Elite4, then moved to the 400 and finally onto the reload. The Elite4 is a good entry level kayak in my opinion. It will certainly allow you a good introduction to kayak fishing. It's not the greatest in choppy conditions but for the price of them I think they are good value. I certainly caught some good fish on my Elite4.
@@DeltaKayakFishingNZ chur! legend.
Just wondering does it matter on the tide or just as long as current is flowing and it is before sunset you catch fish?
To be honest you can catch fish during high tide, low tide, slack tide and anytime of day. You'll probably notice that some spots perform better during an incoming tide, others during an outgoing tide. Fishing the change of light (morning or evening) is often quite successful
Always great viewing.... But where's ya Megavave...Haha
Thank you bro! I think this video was before I had the megawave haha
