Darrel Ralph "Apogee" Dual Action automatic
Very cool knife. The box looks like it's from the 60s. Would be cool if someone knew the details
Wow
I've been loving your videos. It's great to document these rare knives. Thanks!
So, can you still get them ? If so I'd like one or two 😊
@@johnwest4492 they're very common on the secondary market
I had one of these and a custom cutlery shoppe kydex appendix sheath for it in the closed position
That thing is nice. Highly illegal right? Lol I only ask because it looks like it is over 4 inches and it has a double edge.
I got one issued to me in Iraq in 2005. Still have and carry it.
weird comment, but the one I have has survived Houston humidity and still looks new
They were ridiculously expensive when introduced
I did a disassembly of this knife, or halfway disassembly. I discovered that there is a panel that is magnetized to the body of the knife and if you get tweezers with hook angle you can get in where the knife lays in the body, of the knife, and push up and get this panel to reveal itself, that way you can easily remove the panel and adjust the pivot!
Regular people will say it’s just a regular knife an thus it is I say it does indeed look cool
Kinda ashamed to admit i had no idea Butch was involved in these. I totally see it now, though.
I have a Deadlock and like it, though I have had a few QC issues with it. I was considering a MT ZBT mostly because they should be releasing other blade designs than just a dagger
Nice share
What are the chances Gavin would sponsor a similar test with a deadlock? Doesn't have to be a finished one, could be a blem of some sort. I would love to see how one would fair. I have a handfull of deadlocks and have always been curious what the limit is.
Was this before you nailed that knife through a couple boards? What video was before this one?
Folks over at Microtech watching this are cringing right now hahaha. So, you're nailing it through a board to fix the vertical play? LOL Great video! You definitely put this knife to the test.
Great Video, Thank-You, RICKSTER
Great vid series, Chip. Looks like Tony needs to add a steel insert into the chassis to take the abuse where the aluminum is failing. Or maybe he figures if you’re using one that hard that you don’t much care about a little bit of blade play🤷♂️ either way, I appreciate you making the vids.
💯 This is where the Hawk Deadlock excels 👌
That’s a cool knife for sure and the action on it is really nice! As cool as it is, as expensive as it is, I just don’t care for the style. To each their own, I just prefer the styling of a MT and hope that TM continues to tweak the design until it can handle a little bit more rough use. Considering how simply he achieved the ZBT and the magnitude of knives that he produces in comparison to G&G Hawk, he deserves some credit.
My brand new Marfione Custom Atreus consistently misfired just after a few cycles. Additionally, the button travel was not smooth. What a huge disappointment! I sent it back to the dealer for a refund. I may revisit if/when MT refines the ZBT mechanism. I’ll stick with my Deadlock Ti Model C 🤙
Have you ever gotten into the Dalton automatics?
Sorry if I'm being intrusive but how much does one of these run? Maybe not the aluminum one but one of their dual actions at least
@@EugeneSmedlund the plastic handle Boker versions are under $100
Thorn ?
I didn't know other makers used a set screw in the pivot. All my Farid's have it. Really ingenious feature, and it works great. Any idea who was the first to use it?
And isn't AGA known for their cheap quality
I'm sorry I don't think I heard you and I'm kind of being lazy. Did you see those are nickel silver bolsters?
One of my medic buddies had one of these. He swears by it and has carried it for 6 years. His only btches about sharpening it 😂
This is my EDC knife, I found it on the floor when I worked retail. Used and abused for 5+ years, no wiggle or lose actions.
If you're ever given anything away let me know. Me and my son will be waiting for you
Man you have all kinds of stuff. I read that wrong too. I thought that said crkt and it was like they didn't make it sabenza but at this point I wouldn't be surprised
@EugeneSmedlund there are actually prototypes of a FRN handled CRK/CRKT Sebenza collaboration out there, I have done a couple videos on my example but I dont remember if I posted them here
Is there a reason why there's a hole in the flipper tab? I always wondered that
@@EugeneSmedlund maybe, but i don't know it either 😂
Under the absurd UK blade legislation it would be forbidden to so much as own this knife, much less carry it in public. Any knife where the blade is stored within two halves of the handle is prohibited. Definitely a unique one with the double half-stop slipjoint-springs.
And that is why you should either oust your government or you should move. F laws that try and prevent you from defending yourself with whatever you want. Stop importing criminals and start holding actually criminals accountable.
@dexterm2003 I can't fault your logic here ;D
if you havnt noticed, its long beyond voting... the world is literally monopolized down to 2 investment companies... @@dexterm2003
Interesting! That could be converted to an automatic with that lock bar mechanism.
@@undergroundexplorer8378 yup, you could easily replace the backspacer with a leaf spring

Beautiful! Another one i want.
I love it!
Goodness it's a sweet knife though...
I wish the pocket clip didn't look so cheezy....
Nice! 👍
I have a few of these and they really are pretty neat little gentlemanly knives including a couple with the original boxes and paperwork. They were made in the early 80s i believe and I think it was just called a rotary lock, but I would have to double check. Aus6 steel. One of mine has a thinner handle which wraps around the wheel up top on each cover giving an even cleaner look. They are sometimes listed as model 2100 also. I pick them up when I see them and the price is right. Pretty interesting mechanism that works quite well and since the handle is super neutral i can choke up on the ricasso.
When I was a teenager I had a mudd And I didn't know what I had because I got it from my uncle man. I wish I could find that thing
Sheesh 😳 What’s it worth?
@Adamas11 current market, high four figures...maybe even low five
I'd kill for BM to put designs out like this again. Cant see them turning away from $300 steel/g10 axis locks any time soon, though.
I'm having a problem. I'm not getting notifications You posted stuff
Great comparison video
Thanks for the comparison. I am also a deadlock owner and I love everything about them when they are closed. The locking mechanism comes with a price, the blade length. When opened, the deadlock blade looks too short compared to the body to me. I have the Scott Topper Shrike, it has a solid lock and a more esthetic body/blade ratio. I think the Shrike is the gold standard for the OTF's
💯 When opened, the Deadlock blade looks short too short compared to the body. The blade to handle ratio is off. That being said, I am very intrigued by the Atreus, so I ordered the cryo ice blade version. The Atreus has a really cool design aesthetically. I like that Atreus is longer and slimmer than the deadlock. And the blade or handle ratio is 👌
@DCM99967 the Shrike is certainly amazing, I absolutely love mine!
Great video I have three deadlocks one aluminum two titanium it sounds like the microtech is gonna have to re-engineer the inside for the use of some hard steel on the next iteration
Very informative comparison video. Long time Deadlock fan/owner here. The Atreus has a really cool design aesthetically compared to the Deadlock. And you are right, these are not users to most of us, including me 😂 They are just fidget toys. I can’t wait to add the Atreus to my collection.
Nice comparison. However, as one of those people that never liked the Deadlock looks, I find myself slowly building up the willpower to shell out that kind of money on the Atreus.
Super cool!
