From the whole situation now shown with 42 I get the sense that there wasn't some government conspiracy or anything insidious involved but rather the knox infection was discovered identified as a serious pandemic risk / threat and was locked down as best as possible. Then attempts and studies were done to find any way to combat the infection / create a vaccine probably using Rosewood deathrow prisoners as test subjects with little to no results. And then doomsday hit when the virus mutates on the research team and they realize that for whatever reason stopping the knox infection is beyond current technology / ability of the government, containment at the base is breached and the rest we all know. Now the only argument I can really make for government failure / shadiness with what we can see in game is that the moment containment was looking to fail per CDC sop the base should have been incinerated. That said the knox virus may well be able to survive extreme heat and / or it was already a lost cause due to the manner of breach or the actual origin being external and not something the government ever had locked down in the first place (Spiffy Burgers!) Anyway the whole situation and the old final government radio broadcasts lead me to think the high Government had knowledge of the knox virus and pretty much knew it would be an apocolyptic event that they couldn't stop. Deciding to let people live their lives in ignorant bliss till Z day hit, probably made every move they could in time between figuring out it would be doomsday and it actually happening to setup as many depots and stashes as possible along with some strategy / mission plan for the immune survivors of the government services to enact in the aftermath.

Dogs were the first to be hit by the infection, it was in the air for a while before people started getting sick, a guy working as janitor in the complex talks on the radio about it being very secretive and he only ever saw the top level, but on his last day there he noticed the security dog being sick, someone else on the radio talks about how the millitary shot his dog when he tried to enter Zone (hinting it's already outside the exclusion zone). I feel like they were examinating dogs or maybe other animals, and by the time they realized it crossed onto Humans/mutated to infect Humans it was already too late. The place was most likely about chemical/biological warfare to some extent given the ammount of decontamination showers an medical equipement ALso the undeground part was totally designed to be a nuclear bunker of sort with a communication room, a map of the country, a war room etc, maybe a potential location to house VIPS from the region in case shit goes down. And the cave system ? To me it's like a setup situation to mimic a nuclear war/Biological attack etc, to put people in the situation and see how they react facing the end of the world basically

SPOILERS . . . I think the cave is a reference to the zombie movie "Day of the Dead", if I'm not mistaken.

If the morgue cremates the bodies maybe that's where the foul smell came from in day 1 kinda like return of the living dead. Some people were infected by no contact so maybe it works like that it just doesn't make sense how some bodies properties and gases can be carried so far and have a noticible smell but maybe the infection is just that strongly chemically compounded.

those kennels.. two possibilities 1. The origin of the virus, leading on with mutations likely unnoticed - probably the airborne strain refrenced and the worse possibility.. 2. Tests related to zoonosis (Animal to human transmition) and with the new builds wildlife and animal care features.. the latter seems more likely basically, expect wildlife to become infected in later builds.. and pray it doesnt happen

I decided to take my 2 month character to the base to check it out thinking I could use my modded chopper and huge amount of ammo to kill all the zombies. I made it all the way down the stairs 3/4 floors down and the amount of zombies was crazy, it went on forever, also there's a huge cave at the bottom?

After watching, I have a few notes. 1) Love the use of SCP sounds. 2) As cool as it would be for the Knox Infection to have sprouted here, I think it's best if it's kept ominous and unanswered. 3) As much as I want there to be more, building bunkers into natural caverns is quite common. I reckon there will simply be another way to enter/exit the military base from the tunnel. Perhaps into a nearby train tunnel or something. That being said, it still doesn't explain the cell door specifically.
