Why an APPLE TREE is one of the best perennials for your garden!
I spend the video harvesting and talking about the apple tree. I recommend this tree as one of my top 3 for any garden. Delicious, versatile, hardy, what's not to like!!
Speak to your local nursery or visit your state extension service to find some varieties that grow in your area. If you are truly an apple nerd, Wikipedia offers an extensive list of apple varieties.
Apple Hill, near Placerville, CA also has may opportunities to taste apple varieties in fall. One of my favorites is the Larsen Apple Barn with more than 20 varieties and a bake shop!

Have you tried spraying SurroundWP on your grapes?
Thank you thank you thank you! Yes I'm most likely gonna try it next spring.
Good stuff 😊😊😊
Thanks 😁
Looking good 😊😊😊
11:00 Looks like it might be some kind of greenhouse whitefly insect - very difficult to get rid of once they have multiplied, I have seen people go at them with a vacuum to get the bulk of them, and then use an organic oil spray. A trap crop might help draw them away from the grapes - like growing some nasturtium around the area
@nebsun, yes I plan to go into more depth in an upcoming video. My goal is to get options on the table for all to consider. I've had quite a time dealing with these insects, most challenging yet...
There are some apple varieties paired with rootstocks that are very hardy in hot and cold climate and disease resistant, like a Liberty apple on MM116
See the trees you could have, in my video about "pruning" trees but in french, I'm in south east Spain, 200 various fruit trees, and 4 varieties of apple trees, so I harvest apple from May to December. Here we have around one week per year of freeze in early morning only, around 0 degrees celcius
Great thanks! South East Spain; Cool!
@@NewVictoryGardening Seems we have the same climate, so try olive trees too !
I didn't watch the whole video but I'm definitely planting apple trees when I get a home because they produce a lot of calories per square foot once established and taste good.
Too many fruit drops and wasps, bees, etc. lots of work to pick up the fallen fruit unless you keep the tree small
Not a problem if youre gonna use all the fruit I like my trees huge And shady
I'm definitely planting a Gala Apple and grapes next. Thanks for the info.
Being drought tolerant is very important to CA. Thanks for sharing your information.
Thanks😁
Apple trees are often said to grow in zones 3-8. I live in zone 10 southern california. We get about 16 inches of rain a year. Despite this apple trees really thrive and often produce thousands of apples per tree per year, and reliably annual, I've never seen a biennial apple tree
First time visiting..will be back sir
Thanks so much it's great to have you. Had a family issue come up but I'll post a new video soon. Happy gardening!
Great story and info! Those berries look so yummy. ❤
Nice calla lilies! Nice everything! Been edging on 100 here- but we have big trees.
Yes, I agree trees make a big difference. I need to get some new shade cloths also :).
Love those gladiolas!
Great idea! I'd like to try barley.
Hi Teas.Louise, I just ordered a hull-less Barley called "streaker" and will try it out either in the fall or spring!
@@NewVictoryGardening Thank you! Noting that variety down.
Very impressive, stay connected! thumb here
Thank You!!
I really like steel cut oats! I like the plant it looks like ornamental grass in a way.
Thanks; I like them too, it takes more work to thresh and winnow them than to grow them!
It's really producing well!
Thanks!
Great information! We need to get some mulch on some of our raised beds as well. It’s hot here in Tennessee too 😅
Good Luck its already a challenging year!
It seems that mulch cuts down the weeds. I like the wood much better than rock. Great information.
Thanks 👍
If it don't grow, it gotta go! Love your resilience and positivity. Great video!
Nice!
And Tiger loves the grains. lol
"You won't grow, if you never have a challenge" I like that. Glad your vid popped up in my suggestions & the channel name is awesome!
Thanks so much and looking forward to the future! I got lucky with that statement but I'll take it 😉
Oh No! I recall my grandfather propping limbs of Peach trees with long wood sticks with Y's. My suggestion is make jam lol
Yes, thanks so much, I gotta get some of those.
Reminded me of growing beets for beet greens. Very good and you also get beets to pickle or whatever you do with them. You want to pull them young- about ping pong ball size. And yes I love sauteeing greens for scrambled eggs - real good.
Love diatomaceous earth sprinkled on the soil and my tea made with crushed garlic, dill, rosemary, squirt of dawn. Beetles and aphids hate it but pollinators are ok. We need pollinators. Love your puppy !
Great I'm gonna have to incorporate the herbs into my spray. My dog is such a character, watch how he gets his antics into many scenes!
Subbed.
Your tomatoes look like they have "Grazon" or similar Aminopyralid poisoning. Curled, narrow leaves, leggy, slow growth, thickened, 'wrinkled' leaves. etc. Did you have low germination rates? Losing flowers before they set fruit/veg? This happened to me last year. It's a new herbicide that remains toxic toward plants (other than grasses) when horses and cows eat it and it passes through. If you bought composted manure in a bag or even from a farmer- you might have it in your pots. Some plants are affected more than others- greens less so than vegetables. This stuff is horrifying. 40 years gardening and never seen anything like it. I thought aphids at first,, then started wondering about viruses, etc. Mind boggling. I was so mad when I found out what the problem was. If the plants are poisoned with this stuff you want to burn them, not compost. Toxin is persistent. ua-cam.com/video/bur8HewkpQw/v-deo.html
Wow thanks so much I'm gonna look into it! I got that seedling from the Cal Poly SLO tomato show... BTW all the others are doing fine.
It's always a battle - don't give up. We had all those problems in our garden and we did preventive things as best we could. We still had a great crop.
That is a nice amount of harvest with a variety of vegetables. They look healthy and are all good for you!
Thank you! Harvesting smaller amounts more often and growing plants that feed you all summer!
I love garlic as well, but I have been intimidated to plant it. I am going to try it when I can. Can the tops of garlic be used for anything?
Hi thanks, yes the garlic scapes work well in stir fry. You can also grow garlic in grow bags, worth a try!
Great Harvest! We just harvested our Music garlic as well (first time growing this variety) and we're excited to try it. Great suggestion about making garlic butter and sweet garlic! We definitely want to try out some good recipes with our garlic this year. Great video!
Thanks so much, hope you enjoy your harvest as well!
Garlic looks great!🎉
Thanks a bunch!
Save that wood to cook with.
OH no,😪. Hopefully you can save some of the fruit.
This was really fun. I look forward to next year.
I love this intro and how it shows how the garden has grown. The sun is brutal.
I didn't know there was a soil water tester. I just thought you water and that is all. Good information.
Heat is sometimes hard on our plants. It's good that you are keeping on top of this.
I used the spray bottle method and it is tedious and the spray is not distributed well on the plants. The big sprayer seems to do a good job with little effort!
Great point!
Gardening is one of the best ways to eat healthy, exercise and save money if you do it right.
I never thought about using moisture meter. That's a good idea because I always feel like I'm over or under watering pots.
This is good information. I've never seen so many varieties of tomatoes. It's great and benefits everyone.
The plants still look healthy.
How often do you have to spray? What is the time frame to spray or how long do you need to wait to spray again?
Usually a weekly chore but depends on specifics otherwise. Thanks for your comment!
I'm trying to see your videos - forgot my password. Like that intro!
Thanks for that information on organic products to help deal with plant issues and pest and info on different types of sprayers. It goes to show you that checking the garden everyday will help get a greater harvest! Great information.
So nice of you!
Trying to set this up for Veon so he can watch and learn.
Very interesting. I didn't know you could harvest the seeds from mustards like that. Good to know.
