Happy Thanksgiving Shannon! ❤
what an incredibly valuable lesson, the rolling Richie Hayward thing has always sounded so hip, so many variations too. thanks for taking the time to share, that is very kind. Moroccan rhythms very cool, bring it on master.
Fantastic groove and feel!!!!!
Shannon, thank you so much for doing this!!
L esprit TOTO, l esprit Jeff, une belle musicalité
He also burps like Jeff...
Do you change your body movements/posture to create feels that are not natural to you? Love the channel. 😊
Thank you so much for this Shannon!!!!!!!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Love the way you play Flam rudiments ..Could please share something on that thank you..
Killer!
these drums sound perfect
Im waiting to see you with Toto in Argentina today!
Really enjoying the videos!! Do you have any tips for keeping time (with or without metronome)? especially consistency between kick and snare?
Awesome!
great drummer and fantastic drumming.., but the camera angle sucks!
great stuff Shannon
Thank you Shannon ! Your sound Is amazing !
Sooooo good
Saw Shannon perform with Toto a few years ago in London. Absolutely rock solid playing. So so good.
19:12 so true “interrupted the conversation”
Nice timing through the sixteenth note shuffles. How do you get to the stage were the arms don't feel tense and everything flows relaxed, im stuck ,I can play 16th shuffle beats but my arm always gets tense and tires. Great video thanks for posting
What the f…. Is that snare ?
It's either "square" or "swung" or "sqwung" or "swunk" and the Bo Diddley clave and the groove from DMB's number "Lie in our graves" with Carter Beauford behind the trap set.
I’ll try it! Great video Shannon! 🙂
Hey Shannon… Thank you for this material!
Very nice grace notes and feel Shannon! So kind of you to share information, thanks!
What ‘ears’ do you use? Are they etymotic?
Amazing groove Shannon, love this video. Thanks so much, safe travels in South America. Got to get a Roach shirt!
Sweet! It is slightly like the intro to McD's Blink of An Eye.
Shannon Forrest has been the best choice Toto did to play live the songs recorded by Jeff Porcaro, same powerful, precise, groovy and dynamic style. No other drummer has been even close.
Yeah because Simon Phillips sucks. lol.
Totally agree!!!!!!!!! 💪🏼🥁💯
Always so musical.
thanks so lot , shannon ,
shannon keep jeff porcaro spirit🙏🙏🙏
Such a great feel and also some “heavy” and laid back rolls on toms in between…awsome and roomy drum mix…thanx!!!
Thanks for sharing man
Shannon is awesome in his own way and style, but I'm an extra big fan due to a few good reasons.... 1) He plays Pearl Drums and Paiste cymbals. 2) He played with, and has recently rejoined (thankfully) my top favourite band, Toto. 3) As much as Shannon probably is getting tired of hearing this, he plays with as much style and finesse as my most favourite drummers on the planet Jeff Porcaro. 4) For a while there Shannon played Brady Drums (Mainly a snare drum I think) of which I knew Chris Brady from when Chris was experimenting with new ways to build drum shells here in my home city of Perth Western Australia. In 1990 (I think it was) I went to Chris Brady's little workshop in Perth and purchased two of his very first experimental Jarrah Block Shells in white (an 8" and a 10" toms), they weighed a ton, looked sweet and sounded incredible. Sadly I sold those Brady toms with my previous kit (Yamaha) when I decided to buy my Pearl SLX Session Elite kit with... a Pearl Jeff Porcaro rack. I wish I still had those Brady toms, I was silly for selling them. However, I still have my Pearl Session Elite with Jeff Porcaro rack and Paiste Sound Formula cymbals, all of which I will never sell as they sound way too awesome even today. Plus it reminds me of my hero, Jeff Porcaro and, my other hero Shannon Forrest. Can't get enough of Shannon Forrest, we need more videos like this so we can continue to bask in his awesomeness 👌
Bello/Magnifico.🙏✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️👑
Great grooves and improvisations. Love the feel.
Every aspect of this is masterful, but to me the most enlightening concept is the phrasing. Where the figures begin and end is just so inventive. Thank you.
You should do break down of your studio. Also drum gear! I’d like to see you explain how to prepare to play with toto live.
Shannon Forrest my hero !!! Thiago from Brazil !!!
Ei Shannon eu vou te ver com o Toto em São Paulo aqui no Brasil dia 24 de Novembro !!!😊
Hi Shannon 😊 nice to see you back 😊 I have a few questions for you.. 1. In one interview you did a while back, talking about Jeff, you emphasized his "confidence" while playing, what does that mean in a practical way on the instrument? Like, he always knew and felt what to play? 2. You mentioned he basically played "Hooks" .. can you give an example on the drums what a hook is and how to develop it to play like that?. 3. When playing toto material, how do you approach interpreting Jeff's fills to still make it your own? .. thx 😊
So awesome to hear you play.
I'm very excited for the shows in Brazil.
Not hard to figure out why he gets the gig and request to record on so many sessions! His warmup is a masterful piece in and of itself. Pro level at it's finest!
GREAT R R COMMENTS AT THE END!!! I JUST HEARD THESE AT THE END!!!
Hey Brother........I can't imagine the muscle control and stamina you have to have to play this high hat beat for 10 minutes straight?? AND have it be so consistent!! ALSO, I listened to the loudness of the left hand Snare accent beat, and.....by the way you hold the stick.....I bet you $ 5 that your Left Thumb was the one that got that Blister on.....on the European tour these last months!!! Musings of an old Cunga player - what do I know? You are a PRO's PRO!! I heard a lot of what your solos sounded like the last tour - Swiss Triplets rule!!! ON BUSINESS ....I will message you......I am very close to the $$ (so effin long).....and I am editing down all the finished Vids into 20 and 30 second cuts....I will send those out to you and J when done for your approval....so the SM can be blanketed......I know you are down in South America till Thanksgiving....Good luck on this leg....We will drill down on stuff in DEC I hope....Be safe, Dave GREAT VIDEO!!
You know the man's into it when he makes faces like that! I'm self conscious about how I look when I play, but to truly give the audience all of yourself you gotta just give 'er and get over it I guess. Man, Shannon, you've got touch and tone for days...just love it!
Grande Shannon!
