Time to say goodbye
When I started this project in January, I set aside a chunk of money to use for each person that I helped. I knew the money wasn't going to last forever but I was hoping it would last all year. Unfortunately, it ran out after 8 months. So I won't be posting anymore videos on here.

My first tankless water heater call
Переглядів 40Рік тому
This is the first time I have ever actually seen a tankless water heater. Barbara said a plumber told her the reason why she had no hot water was because the unit needed to be flushed. He also told her in order to flush it he would have to install flush valves. He wanted $800 to do the job and Barbara gets slightly more than that each month to live on.

    The agitator bolt looked loose so good job tightening that. The reason that it let water in during a spin cycle is because it was the spin cycle during the rinse stage. It does that in order to get a full rinse. Missing springs would definitely cause the machine to bang around. Base pads are cheap and easy to replace. I would recommend at least checking them because off balance loads, missing springs etc. can cause excessive wear to the base pads. The part when you were waiting for the machine to spin but didn't know what it was doing, motor running but nothing moving, that was the neutral drain. That's where it runs just the pump to expel the water before it goes into spin. The neutral drain mechanism can break which causes the machine to spin when it should only be draining. That also puts excessive wear on your suspension, transmission, clutch etc. Luckily for you, the neutral drain appeared to be working, otherwise the repair would have been a partial rebuild of the gearcase (transmission), all new suspension, new clutch, maybe drive tube and break. Why the customer reported that it kept filling is a mystery. If the drain hose is set too low, it will gravity drain while the machine is trying to fill. Example is, if a super capacity load is designed to fill the tub to where the top of the water in the tub is say 36" above the floor, but the drain pipe is only 32" above the floor, then the water will never fill above 32" because it will gravity drain, never triggering the water level switch to close, and the machine will just keep filling. If the machine just keeps filling but not spilling water on the floor, then that might be the issue. Raise the drain hose a few inches and see what happens.

    The agitator was normal. If it was a larger water level with more laundry, it would work normally.

    • @ahelpinghand703
      @ahelpinghand703 Рік тому

      The bolt was loose but the parts guy explained to me that the agitator doesn't move during the spin cycle so it wouldn't cause it to shake. It was definitely shaking because of the missing spring.

    FYI it looked like you spliced the main power to the new lighting without adding an electrical box which is a no no, flying spliced wires are a fire hazard. Just saying

    I really respect your doing for folks who don’t have the means to get repairs by high priced contractors. While watching this episode I noticed a couple things I thought were alarming to me, first was you using both hands to remove that breaker, that’s a no no😮 never use both hands, even though power was off still not a good practice, you just never know. The other thing I noticed in the house was that chair so close to that wood stove, very dangerous. You might want to call them and ask if they would move the chair away from stove for safety sake. I’m a retired professional firefighter in a major city and seen too many fires started by electric/gas: kerosene/wood stoves. Just saying.

In the case of this gentleman, I will just say that it's best that I don't call him about the chair. Sometimes you have to evaluate the individual and how much they are willing to accept "advice".

    I believe the arc you see is because the iron is on when you pulled the cord, should’ve turn the iron off first otherwise there’s a power draw which shows as arc.

      @@ahelpinghand703 I didn’t mean she left the iron on, I meant when you pulled the cord it was in the heat position which will cause an arc when you pull the plug. Ideally you want to turn the device off before pulling the plug 😀

      @@joeconnett8112 I actually called her and told her and she said that she doesn't turn it off when she's done. So she probably won't have that issue anymore. She actually didn't really seem to care after I told her there was no danger of a fire. That was her concern. She thought something in the wall might catch on fire.

    Couple things to help troubleshoot. With the power turned off, disconnect the outlet you had off and do a continuity check with your meter to verify there are no shorts in the wire, check between hot and neutral. If you take the time and pull all the outlets out in the living area it might help identify how things were wired, sometimes mobiles aren't always daisy chained and you may have more than one outlet run back to a junction box. If you do pull all the outlets and you have more than one romex in the box, you can start sectionalizing it down. To do this again with the power off, twist the hot and neutral together on one end (make sure dead) and go around to your other boxes and check for continuity between the hot and neutral. One last thing, don't let a switched outlet throw you off. If you have any questions let me know. Love what you are doing!

    Hi there. You have a dirty flame sensor on this unit. The flame sensor, also called flame rod is designed to be exposed directly to the flames right at the end of the burners. Their purpose is to prove the flame exists. When you have a dirty one it will make the furnace act similar to yours where it cycles on and off. To clean the flame sensor, remove it and on the metal rod end that is exposed to the flame, clean it up. I find that a Scotch Brite pad works best. If you have any questions feel free to message me. Thanks!

      Thank you for letting me know. I have actually learned quite a bit about furnaces since I started doing this. He was my first furnace repair. I now realize when the flame goes out after a few seconds it's because the flame sensor isn't detecting the heat and it shuts the flow of gas off.
