Took a quick video of the lakes near Roberts Wisconsin with my new DJI quadcopter. Did a little editing on the color. Still have some to learn there yet.

Running a 54 Evinrude that my neighbor gave me. Took all of 15 minutes to get it running after years in the garage. Now to get it on a boat and out on the lake.

I just picked up the same motor, been stored in a garage for who knows how long, my biggest worry is parts, but hey we paid 50$ for it at auction and u cant go wrong with that price
I got it!
Yes I love the old hit and miss engines! They are so faithful!
Ola amigo saludos 👋 me puedes ayudar y decirme cómo funciona eso
Did a lot of this growing up. Used to tie a string on the cable to see how far we were drilling down. Dressing tools was a lot of fun as well
How deep is max for this rig? in feet rating
It’s rated to drill 1,200 ft. I’m sure that would depend on cable diameter and size and weight of drill tools. It has different settings for changing the length of drilling stroke.
Got the same one they are neat motors I even have the owners manual. Lots of oil and grease all over.
Love that throaty idle sound. Like a hi cam race car.
it seems like every other time you pull the sucker up, it has nothing in it. what's up with that?
Sometimes it will suck up a rock bigger that the check valve will let through so there ends up with nothing. This bucket will handle rocks around 1 inch.
I can appreciate the old ways of doing it but button bits are the way to go these days.
Thanks for a nice drilling work...
I have one is a pain in the ass to run hates to idle. My 37 Johnson runs much better
And can a person get parts if needed rings coil
How much do theses zephyr go for running and or parts
I have a running Zephyr available in Michigan
Parts can be found on ebay
Wondering if it is potentially worth beveling over the step caused by each coupling to aid in driving and pulling pipe?
Thanks for the videos, I am working with an old 20w and your videos help me along.
My motor is SN A121444 it has a rudder to guide the trust direction. I will attempt to start soon. Need to get buzz coil. Thanks for your channel
Just started a similar engine.
Great Channel, good guy
Too much slack.
E não e fácil eu tenho anos nessa área conheço bem
Toxic person, rotten personality. Shame!
Found one as a kid .....
How many turns on the needle to start it?
I was raised on the Derrick floor of my grandfather’s Standard Rig and National Machine. I was too young to let me drill with the Standard Rig but I did get to drill with the National. Iloved that National when you had the right motion that 200’ cracker on top of the tools would hit twice every stroke. Very few are left to know the feel of the temper screw. Those were the best days of my life.
Did the casing fail at the weld?
Stupid
Thank you for posting this
Gary, I have the same Evenrude motor with fuel tank that belonged to my father that has passed away. Would you be interested in keeping it for future lake adventures?
Ando perforando en el estado de Querétaro. México
Looks good sounds good! Nice engine!
good,thanks
How do you make bailer New to cable tool drilling , I'm planning to make one ..? Hope you are interested in helping with someone experience
Did you ever get a bailer figured out?
Thanks for posting all the cable tool videos! Do you have any advice on step drilling in hard rock, i.e. starting with a small diameter and reaming it out in a couple passes? I am drilling in West Africa with a light spudder rig that cannot drill a 6" hole in granite in one shot. jblongen @ gmail.com. Thanks!
love these old engines
Hey Gary how does this seem to work? I think I grasp the idea but we never did anything like that here when we were drilling? Love those videos of the old 33.
Gary have you ever made it to the Coolspring engine show in Coolspring ,PA ?? It is one of the tops in the nation ! Is this the one you ran your 33W on ? You answered my question about the rig. Thank you !
Looks like =you have some pretty good drilling Gary !
Gary isn't it amazing the power you have with a couple wraps on a cathead ?
I still love these old cabletool rigs. I would love to have a 24L or 60L to drill a couple shallow gas wells on my properties. I was raised on my grandfather s Standard Rig and #2 National Machine. Sure miss those days.
Kinda sounds like it is dropping a cylinder at idle...Is it pumping water OK? Sure is a beautiful engine though...
Good old motor. Have the same one, mines on the ugly side , got about 12 different paint jobs inflicted on it. Thanks for sharing this 👍
I worked on a similar one many years ago, around 1959. Owner was Homer Elliott in Rome NY area. Was one of the best jobs I have had.
Brilliant machine..! I have one exactly like it: ua-cam.com/video/bDO5IL621rc/v-deo.html
far out Gary

Excellent video, thanks for taking the time to document this.
Gary do you run any button bits? I have mixed emotions on them. I have had them dive and stick when I was running my rig and did not have a jar bumper to run down to knock them loose so I had to try and keep hitting with the mandrel the little bit of room I had and they would come out. Had I been smart I would have had the jars on ? Some of our formations up here can be very difficult as I am sure you have a lot of the same. I love you videos of the old 33 W !!
Thom, parts can be hard to find. Spent nearly two years trying to find rubber shock kit for top shive. Some parts can be made and clutch parts are available. Internet is your friend when looking for parts.
