Diving Kapalai Artificial Reef
Not far from Mabul is Kapalai resort, a beautiful array of water cabins set on a sand bank, a bit out of my price range but some great dive sites. The house reef consists of a series of man-made structures which are teaming with life. The vis wasn't great when we went but that added to the eeriness, like visiting a submerged Brigadoon.
Thanks to @jonathanmarker for the macro shots, and @mabulbackpackers1532 for the dive guides.

Snorkelling Mabul Backpackers
Переглядів 92 години тому
Stayed at Mabul Backpackers for four days, great place to be! The reef plate goes out a long way but we didn't venture to the edge due to boat traffic. There was plenty to see in and around the pier. Loads of anemones and different species of clowns, blue spotted rays, clarinet fish, sea hares, sexy shrimp, a Spanish dancer and a blue spotted octopus amongst other stuff. This place is great for...
Diving Lahad Datu
Переглядів 164 години тому
A trip to Malaysia started in Lahad Datu. A fantastic wreck dive, it was a bit murky but that was my fault for being a lazy arse, after three days in the jungle getting up at 5 am, I needed a lie in! As you can see, the coral is fabulous, it's a big wreck and you can swim through it and into the engine room. The two dives came with lunch at a fish farm which was great, the dogs were very friend...
Diving Sail Rock
Переглядів 5621 день тому
Sail Rock is a pinnacle between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan in the Gulf of Thailand. If anyone asks you if you want to dive there, just say yes! The water was a bit murky and there was quite a current but man, there were a lot of fish! Thousands of them. Massive schools of jacks and barracuda, some huge groupers, loads of beautiful angels, big schools of batfish, and the whole rock is covered in an...
Diving Racha Yai

A quick video from last weekend's dive at Racha Yai. We went out to the wreck which is always nice, several big barracuda, a couple of triggers, two turtles, and the clams and sea cucumber were spawning. Quite a weird sight, they'd made their way to the tops of rocks and were swaying their heads in the air, looked a bit creepy! Great day on the boat as always, big thanks to @Seafundiversphukett...
Diving USAT Liberty
Переглядів 141Місяць тому
Finally got around to going through some films I took earlier in the year, this is from a visit to Bali in April. The USAT Liberty at Tulamben is a must do dive if you go to Bali. It's close to the shore so easy to swim to and it's been down there a long time so is beautifully encrusted with coral and sponges. We had great vis, a wide variety of fish and nudis, and big bank of garden eels. Can'...

Snorkelling Amed Beach
Переглядів 358 місяців тому
Don't be fooled by the black pebbles and sand at Amed, the water is crystal clear and beautiful to swim in. Swimming at the beach just off Amed Cafe and you are pretty much guaranteed to see a turtle or two, obviously - don't chase them, they are not bothered by people so will just go on about their business if you leave them alone. Just float and they'll come pretty close. Other things to keep...
Diving with Jellies
Переглядів 388 місяців тому
There's been a lot of jellyfish all season but they seemed to be everywhere you looked on this dive! North side of Koh Pu off Kata, Phuket, with @RumblefishAdventure. There were tons of fish but I got a bit carried away filming the jellies :-)
Diving King Cruiser & Shark Point
Переглядів 688 місяців тому
Two of the best dive sites off Phuket, well - in my opinion. Both covered in soft coral with thousands of fish. The vis can be hit or miss, especially on King Cruiser, but we hit it on a good day. We did these and Anemone Reef as a three dive trip, check out the other video of anemone reef, it's quite special! Big thanks to @seafundivers for a great day out!
Diving Anemone Reef

What a spectacular dive this was! It's only the second time I've dived there, it's a small site so it can't take a big group and the current can be strong. We hit it on a perfect day, the vis was great and there were thousands of fish, the leopard shark was a bonus too! Thanks to @seafundivers for an epic day out!

A return visit to Koh Haa and its wonderful caves in the new year. A wonderful dive site.
Diving Lanta at Night
Переглядів 2711 місяців тому
We took a trip down to Lanta recently to do some diving, we were staying on Long Beach, it's a nice swimming beach but there's not much there for snorkelers or divers, or so we thought! We went in just after sunset and boy did we see some weird creatures! The bob-tail squid was adorable, no idea what the little balloons were - there were thousands of them.
Diving Kata Reef and Cubes
Переглядів 33Рік тому
While everyone else was still asleep or opening up their stocking, we went for a dive to wish all our friends the fish a Merry Christmas. The bat fish were particularly pleased to to see me, the cuttlefish less so, and the mimic octopus sat on the fence.
Diving Kata Sardine Murmurations
Переглядів 52Рік тому
Last week we went for a shore dive at Kata beach and found the bottom half of the reef was completely smothered with a huge school of sardines. There must be millions of fish, we swam through it but never got to the end of them. I was going to edit this down, shorten it to people's attention span but couldn't do it. My favourite thing is swimming through big schools of fish and this was such a ...

Phi Phi Snorkelling Trip with Phuket Sail Tours
Nice video, it bringes some memories in mind :)
Thanks, it was nice to look back on it - it's been a while now, will have to back soon!
That's the most poetic description of fishing I've ever encountered in my life!
Thank you Ilia 🙂

It was cool seeing you diving at the end JM 😂 😂 😂
He's a merman :-)
Banka Island I remember a long shallow delightful drift ❤❤❤❤
It's just glorious, isn't it?
Where on koh ngai is this? 😮
From the pier up along the east coast beach. If you look on Google maps satellite view you can see where the sand ends and the reef starts. It's very pretty!
Wow amazing 🤩
Thanks 🤗
Wow, this is spectacular! You've done a lot of diving in Thailand. Can you please recommend a few spots that would be best for snorkeling?
Thailand's a big place! It depends what else you want to do. Kata beach on Phuket has very good snorkelling but it's a busy place. Lipe is a small island with far fewer people but great snorkelling. Phi Phi, again, is great for snorkelling but gets busy. Koh Tao is also good for snorkelling. It also depends on the time of year you'll be visiting, the winds change in October and April so you need to look at which side of the country you need to be on. www.snorkeling-report.com/ try this website :-)
Lucky man! Thank you!
Lady :-) You're welcome!
I was immersed on these sites on January 4 and 7, 2015. We met a whale shark and a manta ray. It's a pity that I didn't have a camera then. Only positive memories remain.
Wow, lucky you! How fantastic :-)
Thank you for the clip. Good vis considering the rains.
It's such a great dive site but can be very hit or miss with the vis, I think we just got lucky that day!
Hi! What month did you went for diving here? Was planning to do it this December. Nice video btw!
Hi, sorry for not responding sooner! December is the perfect time. It's more about the moon phase and tides, you want to go mid-moon, ie not full or new moon for the smallest tide.
Nice work J 😀
What d'ya mean J?? He only does tiny things :-)
Hello, I really liked your video. Please tell me where you took this excursion and do you need a license for divers?
Hi, sorry for the delay in replying. We go with Sea Fun Divers, (facebook.com/seafundiversphuket) who go out from Chalong pier. If you don't have a diver's licence they can help you with that. Very safe and professional outfit.
I have been diving this year in this cave. Good dive site! Good video. 👍👍👍👌👌👌👏
Thanks! Will have to go back at some point, it's a great dive site!
The dugong was incredible to see, so graceful. I can understand why they were thought to be mermaids.
Incredible reefs here. Is it worth snorkelling also?
Yes! We only had a couple of days and got as much diving in as we could but the house reef at Nomad was definitely snorkellable.
I was also diving on racha I didn’t see my Rena octopus
They're so easy to miss unless they move, this guy was particularly chilled and let us stay with him for ages, if we do manage to spot them they usually just stay still or swim off in a hurry.
Love it!
Please post some pictures from Koh Lipe. Theresa and Charles
Will do, have a mountain of videos to go through!
