The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne is one of Australia's most significant war memorials, dedicated to honoring the men and women of Victoria who served in World War I and subsequent conflicts. It was opened in 1934 and is located on St Kilda Road, just south of Melbourne’s city center.
Sanctuary: The central space, containing the Stone of Remembrance, where a ray of sunlight falls on the word “Love” at 11 am on 11 November each year, marking the exact moment of the Armistice that ended World War I.
Crypt: Below the Sanctuary, the crypt contains the statue of a soldier and his horse, symbolizing all services in the Australian military.
Eternal Flame: Outside the Shrine is an eternal flame, symbolizing everlasting remembrance.
Memorial Gardens: Surrounding the Shrine, the gardens contain several memorials and sculptures dedicated to various military services and conflicts.
