    My gear oli lube fitting broke as well. How did you get it out of the back of the unit? Can I just pull it out? I dont know if there is something on inside back of engine bay?

    • @randyj7476
      @randyj7476 8 днів тому

      Yes there is a hose connected to the the end on the inside (behind the engine on the transom). If I remember correctly, there was a small clip that retains the hose. Just remove the clip and the hose will just pull off. Then you can just pull the part out from the outside. Grab it with a pair of pliers and it should come right out. It will only be held in by the tension from a couple o-rings. Hope your repair goes well.

    Hi Randy!!! Your video is great. I know it's a couple of years old but I just decided to install an awning (from AwnTech). My question is, what are the measurements of the blocks you created to attach the brackets? Where they all the same size or each one was a bit different? Also, in your video you show the first block installed and it looks like the bottom of it is sticking down about 1/2 inch. Is that correct or did you have to go back and make it line up with the fascia? Thank you!

    • @randyj7476
      @randyj7476 23 дні тому

      The blocks were the same width as the brackets. They did hang down a bit. but that was so that I could make contact with the siding at the point where the siding actually touches the wall. I didn't want the siding to crush. Your house will probably be different so I would just make them the size you need to get the same effect. The wood blocks I made do extend below the fascia board but that is because the vinyl soffit sticks down that much. I needed to make sure that the board was touching the backside of the soffit so when I bolted the bracket to it the soffit would not be pulled up but instead would remain exactly in the same position. I hope my explanation makes sense and doesn't add confusion. Good luck with your install.

    I replaced the rear shocks on my 2012 Honda Civic EX this morning. I replaced them with KYB 348067 shocks. It took me about an hour and 15 from start to finish because I used a regular 14mm wrench (a ratcheting one would be so useful here) for the nut on top. You should use a floor jack to give yourself some clearance because it makes it much easier. The bolt on the bottom wasn't hard to remove but it was a bit of a pain getting back in. You really have to get the shock and frame aligned perfectly. I used a screwdriver in the bolt hole against the frame to help position and align the shock. That's much easier than trying to align it by hand. You should push the bolt in as far as it will go and try to get the thread started by hand first. Once I got the thread started, the rest was easy. The right one was more problematic than the left for some reason. I like the way Honda designed this because it seems like the thought of doing everything one-handed was in mind. The shocks feel much better on the road.

    • @randyj7476
      @randyj7476 2 місяці тому

      You probably can do it with the car on the ground but it is definitely easier to jack it up so that the suspension is fully extended. This will give you more room to work under the car and you also won't have to compress the new shock as much to install it. It may also be too difficult to compress the shock in all the way in order to install it because you definitely would have to compress it more if you don't jack up the car.

    I have a CAT but a different model. I'd run it for a few hours (from new) when it gave me a scare. It tried doing an auto-restart to rebuild tank pressure, and instead of the motor starting, it stalled, drawing a lot of current. I quickly shut it off but it would have likely tripped the breaker or caught fire if left alone. I no longer trust it.

    • @randyj7476
      @randyj7476 8 місяців тому

      I definitely think they could improve the design. There are some things they can do to make sure it stays in time like keying the shaft on the motor instead of just using set screws. If one of the set screws loosen then the crank shaft on either end could slip slightly. This slipping puts the unit out of time/sync and really loads the motor causing a very large increase in current draw which will definitely trip your breaker.

      Could be that one of the crankshafts have shifted. It will throw the timing out a bit and cause extra loading on the motor. The crankshaft is aligned by the set screws tightening down on the flat of the motor shaft. If the set screw loosens even slightly then that would affect the timing. Its a poor design in my opinion.

But to do so, even if that's what they wanted, would open the door to ambulance chasing lawyers, and those only wanting to profit from understandable "human error" at the factory. I've learned the hard way when it came to soldering crimped connectors on stranded wire. To save you some headaches in the future its recommended to just crimp the connection and not solder in a situation like this. Soldering is sufficient only when the joint will not be flexed frequently or be subject to vibration. It's why they use crimps in the automotive field. The issue with soldering a crimped connector is that the solder backfills the stranded wire beyond the crimp thus concentrating all the vibration to the part of the stranded wire beyond the crimp resulting in an unsupported region causing it to fail quicker. It's similar to creating solid copper conductor (as solder has filled the strands creating a rigid conductor). The vibration then bends it back and forth until breakage. However all this being said.....at least your repair will likely be fine & won't be throwing sparks even if that does happen! If your interested in improving your electrical connections check out this NASA TECHNICAL STANDARD: NASA-STD 8739.4A - WORKMANSHIP STANDARD FOR CRIMPING, INTERCONNECTING CABLES, HARNESSES, AND WIRING PDF Link: s3vi.ndc.nasa.gov/ssri-kb/static/resources/nasa-std-8739.4a.pdf it's a wealth of information that includes the proper methods of electrical connection for any application. Thanks, hope you don't have issues either. The second set screw basically locks the first one in place so that it doesn't back out and get loose. The cast housing was put back on using a plastic hammer to just tap it on. It actually goes together without any difficulty. Don't use a metal hammer as you could possibly break the housing. Hope this helps.
