That’s one of those things that I already have a lot of the stuff I need for it, to do lighting……… but I just don’t feel comfortable or anywhere near confident enough to even try it yet!?! I’ve been shocked really bad before (I use to say “electrocuted”! But according to my job and everyone I work with, if I got “electrocuted” I would be dead!?! I don’t know though….. I’m pretty sure being shocked for as long as I was and for it to dim all the lights in my parents house at the time, I would say “shocked” is a understatement) when I was a young teen and I’ve never messed with electricity again!!! Not even very small amounts like this stuff!

Honestly, I bet I could figure out a way to get into a few of the electrical classes at my job!?! I do have a few people in that department I talk to…… but it’s far harder to find someone willing to put in the extra time helping someone else out!?! I wish I could just afford to be able to just pay for classes or someone to teach me! But I’m broke lol I’m not trying to say any of this is on you and I’m definitely not trying to put this on you! I know how misunderstandings happen a lot on here! I’m just rambling lol either way you do great work! 8:38- So a lot of those look like the OG models!?! Are they? Do you do any 3D printing? I’m still looking for a set that isn’t attached to a Patreon (with not much luck so far)!?! But there are a few sets of 5, 10 and 15 downed or dead troopers (not only for WH40k! But I’ve also have gotten downed Storm Troopers and Clone Troopers as well….. but those ones only came in a set of 5! And once again, unless I wanted to sign up for a Patreon I could only buy the physical minis)?!? And depending on the Troopers you put near them, it really brings it to life!?!

    • @CommanderLurpack
      @CommanderLurpack 4 місяці тому

      Yeah I think the casualties really bring a battlefield that extra bit of realism! I do have a 3d printer there are some great casualty stl files for imperial guard by a company called the makers cult I'm currently printing loads of casualties for my solar auxilia army using their files

    • @AcoylteKraven82

      @@CommanderLurpack the company is called “the markers cult”? I’m only asking because I’ve heard of the reverse (I guess you could say lol), “cult makers” (which yeah, definitely does sound like a different thing internally lol And it took me awhile to figure out the right way to type it in the search for it NOT to think I meant “religious cults” lol)!?! It was also a few years ago also! Yeah, I have a insane amount of models and characters already drawn up and designed to be made into a 3D file for not just WH40k or WH (which I don’t think they could be “copyrighted”…. Only because, like how they took pieces from WW1 and WW2 they liked to make the Krieg…. I kinda did the same from them but then reverted a lot of the things back into more realistic and real world things) as a whole! But also SW Legion, SW Shatterpoint and MCP! But the issue right now is me trying to make them on any of the design platforms?!? I have 1 of the “easier to learn how to use” ones on my PC…….. but I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong on there and the amount of time I have to go on my computer is very slim!?! So that doesn’t help! But then I also have 2 on my iPad, which I can devote way more time to because I can literally take it anywhere (well, except for what I work on and help build for my full time job! But that’s because you can’t bring cameras past a certain point…. But that’s something else entirely lol)! But from what I’ve heard and have seen first hand, those are some of the hardest to learn on!?! But they are also the only ones I could find that can be used on a iPad!?! If I could send pictures here this reply definitely would have been way shorter lol because I could just show you instead of telling you! Sorry, I’m just rambling now! But, yes! Any time you add battle damage and/or wear and tear to a model, terrain or even a diorama it brings it to life way faster than a “perfect paint job”!!! And again, thank you!!!

    0:52- I just thought about this while I was going through your video list!?! So I have foam….. but the sound it makes any time it’s touched or moved, it drives me crazy! So I try my best to never use it!?! But is there a tool that isn’t expensive that I can cut out a circle for a lot of these minis bases? So my Cadians and my Death Korp and the few Sisters of Battle I have in this diorama I’m making are 3D prints! So I didn’t really worry about the bases! But my Orks are apart of my Ork army! And already are on bases!?! I guess I could just use a knife and more corkboard……. But is there a spinning tool that doesn’t cost much that I could use to do the same with wood?

    • @CommanderLurpack

      Hey completely agree the foam does make awful noises! So you could use a hole saw to cut bases out of wood but honestly don't think it's worth the effort I usually buy plastic bases from a company called hobby heaven on Amazon you get quite a lot for your money!

      @@CommanderLurpack yup, they can hold a bit more weight! But I have found a negative with them!?! If you don’t plan on painting them or if they are the ones already different colors then you can kinda skip over it…… but if you want to paint them then either you have some prep work beforehand (which isn’t too bad! Just straighten out all of them that you think you’re going to need. If they are straight then the next step is going to be way easier for you! Then use some mid to high grade sandpaper. Then when you think you got all the sections you think you will be using you can add primer or use a less grit sandpaper!?! If you paint, you can paint the whole prepped area or a little bit more than what you’re going to see! Because the sanded areas would do a great job at holding the glue because it will soak in every scratch mark you left!!! Especially if you’re using super glue for this) or you better be prepared to do a few back and forth coats of primer and clear coats (which you could still take the paint off, if you are trying to)!?! @@CommanderLurpack same! But even though I’ve been drawing my whole life, I’ve only been in this hobby for a short amount of time! So my brain likes to keep pushing me back into default mode which (in the world of drawing) is “if everything isn’t perfect then it won’t look right”! Which sadly enough the progress I made in my drawing throughout the years is barely even half when compared to all the progress I’ve made in a few years time with my painting in this hobby! And it actually boosted my talent in drawing also because I now had a better grasp on detentions, angels and how a shadow would lay on top or just brush the body where there is some shadow, but mostly would be hit by light!

So for example with a smaller area if Space Marines were clearing out the battlefield of their fallen allies, they would probably drag the bodies at least a bit!?! But for roads! I’m thinking how do you make the look of Orks tying someone still alive up to the back of their bikes and ride off into the sunset?!?

    • @CommanderLurpack
      @CommanderLurpack 4 місяці тому

      Yeah man that would look very cool, I would go about it using a small piece of sponge dipping it in a bit of citadels blood for the blood god paint and then dragging the sponge along the road should give you a cool smear, I would do it smaller than wanted first and then can always add more layers of blood on top if not gorey enough

    • @AcoylteKraven82
      @AcoylteKraven82 4 місяці тому

      @@CommanderLurpack yeah…… that’s a good idea…. I would see it running out very fast though!?! But while I was reading what you wrote back I did think of how I could make the gore a bit more realistic!?! (I’m just guessing you have this over there as well, but) Do you know those ingestion syringes that’s mainly used for giving pets liquid medications or sometimes even babies and very young kids?!? I think if you have a bit of a bigger piece of sponge you could fill the injector with BFTBG paint and then attach it to the other end of the sponge. And just inject and drag!?! Mainly because (depending on the person’s injuries where they were laying which getting tired to the bike would be somewhat of a pool. And therefore when they started to get dragged there would be more being pulled. But either once the bike got up to a certain speed or a certain amount of time and distance away it would definitely run out…… but also, I don’t see the sponge lasting long the way I said it……. I don’t know!?! But thanks for the idea! I have a decent amount of sponges from drawing and painting box sets and packs! But never really thought of trying that!

(Just FYI: I’m not trying to make it sound like I am making fun of your work! Everyone sees things differently and different countries also do different things!!! And from where I’m from, I’m use to the 2 lines near the curbs and the 2 lines in the middle to split up the right and left lines! • @CommanderLurpack
      @CommanderLurpack 4 місяці тому

      Hey mate so I used UHU glue to stick the road down it is quite a strong glue but due to the cork being quite a soft material it's easy to cut into it with a craft knife and carve it into the craters. The mod podge and paint helps to harden the cork afterwards. I haven't had any issues with the road separating from the wood and it's been about 2 years since I made them now so think the UHU is strong enough but you can always use a stronger adhesive if you wanted to!

Sorry about that! So what I meant was I am in the process of making a very big diorama but it’s section by section and it’s to depict Cadia’s last stand. Well I was also using corkboard (very thin but almost a foot long! My job was tossing a lot of it! So of course I took most of it home to see if I could use it for anything! I am still mostly a noob to all of this) for a hill for a graveyard! It’s definitely flimsy……. but I don’t know if I would call it “soft”!?! Maybe it’s 2 different things…. I didn’t really get mine in a pack or a box with any labels…. But that is what the boss called it when he asked me if I wanted it!?! Anyways, I made the mistake of not cutting out the first hole before gluing it to the wood board….. and oh boy…… was that a mistake lmao It took me far longer for me to just cut that 1 grave out from 1 layer then most of just the terrain took on my first piece!?! And it still looked pretty bad on where it was attached to the wood! But somehow yours looks almost perfect!?! That was all I meant. Because unfortunately a lot of the UA-camr I use to follow, at some point they took something I said or even multiple things I’ve said as a insult or a attack! But instead of just asking or leaving a reply, they just ignored it, moved it on the comment section so no one could see it with the newer comments or wait until many months later and then attack me in replies because at that point, if I question anything it’s automatically a attack!!! Which could have been cleared up at any point with a question or 2!!! At that point I know there is nothing I can say or do to get them to not think any comment after that was a attack! Not to mention, they would normally cross the line they think I crossed in the first place…… so the chances of my comments/questions would be more or less attacks anyways because I already know (not think and not a misunderstanding like theirs was) they are going to attack me regardless!!! So I just stop watching their stuff!!! But I like your videos also and now that I understand what the problem sometimes is, I try to stop it before it’s already out of control! Sorry this is long! I’ll make a shorter version because there are still a few things you said that I didn’t even mention!

    Really great tutorial. I like the idea of cutting the mat into strips and having them be slightly elevated. I'm getting into bolt action so I'll need to make fields and the like for battles in Normandy, and this looks like a great technique!

    Similar technic of drybrush has Duncan Rhodes, I used his technic to paint my Battletech models and that gave them more tarnished but not grimdark look. However I'm thinking of using your method on the next Battletech models. Do you think will it work on 1/300 scale (but similar model hight?)?

    • @CommanderLurpack
      @CommanderLurpack 5 місяців тому

      Hey mate I think this technique would work well on a smaller scale too as I think the texture it creates from the layers of dry brushing would help simulate smaller detail and wear/damage on armour 😊 Always wanted to get into battletech have you played much?

      @@CommanderLurpack Hello. I made some test paintings, and I may say, that I managed to get quite grimdark battlemech in 1/300 scale. I used most of painting technics (including streaking grime) from video above and it worked well. No only I can say that, but also other confirmed it.

    I did something similar with the fiels I made. I made some modular fields and then fields split up like corn rows, but pocked with craters. That way minis can move between them without having to be placed on top.

    • @CommanderLurpack
      @CommanderLurpack 6 місяців тому

      That's very cool putting craters in must look really good! I was tempted to put some tank tracks across some sections when I was making them, then I remembered I was meant to make it fit in any setting and thought tank tracks might look odd in a lord of the rings game haha. I might revisit it and do some setting specific tiles in the future
