Spectacular views of the Wye valley from Priestcliffe.
This video is of a stunning 5km(3 mile) walk up to Priestcliffe, Derbyshire from the Monsal trail . It takes you through a disused quarry which is now a tranquil nature reserve. Then up to Priestcliffe where beautiful views of the Wye valley and the Derbyshire countryside can be found.

The first part of the video is short walk exploring the Lime kilns at Miller’s Dale in Derbyshire. Getting inside these huge structures to see what went on . This second section includes a science demonstration showing the chemical reactions which made the lime and also slaked lime. I’m a qualified science teacher who has many years experience carrying out these reactions in a safe environment....

Good that Simon. The quarry was interesting - I mean it was large but reclaimed by nature - no stopping it. Some nice views. Ah, poor old Lexy - them tracks were a swimming pool for her - she did alright. Well, good to be by your Wye Valley. All the best. Mark

Thanks Mark. I hadn’t intended on making a video. But once I got up there just thought I’d share the views with others. Will be planning to get out of the Peaks next year and walk other areas. ….. and cycle. That’s more of a challenge to film so thinking of investing in an action camera. Although for the number of views I get probably not worth it😆. I guess you’ve got to start somewhere. Hope you’re ok and got some adventures planned. I look forward to seeing them. I find them very relaxing and informative. 👍🏻

Having worked in a few limestone quarries it amazes me how quickly nature reclaims the land once quarrying operations cease. When those kilns were going it certainly would not have been a very pleasant place to take the dog for a walk but it looks like a nice place now.
