How to measure large resistances (up to 10s of Giga Ohm) using a normal Multimeter
In this video I will show you how to measure large resistances using a normal Multi-meter and a bench power supply.
In a second video I will make a tiny electronics circuitry so that using same setup we can measure up to 10s of Tera Ohm and also how to measure polarization and depolarization current.
It was for more than half a year that due to very busy life and work I could not upload any UA-cam video. Gradually the period of overload is moving away and hopefully I will upload videos regularly.

In this video I show you how to add an equation into a Visio drawing. Also I show you how to change the limits of a control point that are available on some of Visio shapes. Finally I will show you how to make a relatively complicated/repetitive shape, programmatically utilizing ChatGPT and programing in VBA. It has been again a long time since I made my last video. These days workload has incr...
How to calculate inductance in 3D in COMSOL Multiphysics
Переглядів 1,5 тис.9 місяців тому
In this video I show you how to perform a 3D model in COMOSL to calculate inductance. It is very important to check the quality of the mesh before running the simulation. Also make sure that number of meshes are not so high that your computer ram can not handle them. I showed the simulation for two cases, a rectangular loop, and a rectangular loop with a toroid around it. After more than 2 mont...
Repairing a broken card holder

The waves of documents and theses to review and preparation for an upcoming talk and a conference to participate and le...
How to convert image into curve in COMSOL
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
Sometime you have an image of an object and you you want to convert it into a workable geometry in COMOSL or you want to make a 3D print of that object. While COMSOL permits you to import .dxf files, but your image is most likely a .png or .jpg file. Obviously in a professional image editing software you can convert an image into a vector and create a .dxf file but you may not have such softwar...

Hi, I am back :), after nearly two months of not being able to make any video, i got some time to make a short video, and more new technical videos will come soon. Life has been so much busy this whole summer. So many students. A few of my master students have graduated, Mahesh, Ewout, Gijs and Shibanni, congratulations to all of you for the excellent job you all did in your master thesis work....
How to make Weibull probability plot and its confidence bounds in MATLAB + median rank explanation )

Eventually after several years I got time to make a video about Weibull distribution and how to plot its confidence intervals. I wanted to make this video several years ago, but due to the fact that I could not find the proof of one formula i put it aside. Recently one of my student needed to plot confidence bounds of Weibull plot. I decided to explain how to do it in MATLAB. Also since I could...
How to run a Simulink model for different input parameters and plot the simulations results

I needed to perform a sensitivity analysis on a Simulink model, so I decided to show how you can run a Simulink model many times and study impact of input parameters on the simulation output. It is very obvious, but maybe become of some help to some of the new MATLAB users. More than 40 days has passed and I could not manage to make any videos. My friend Luis was going to come to my home and it...
How to make conductive paint ( Graphite powder + Nail Hardener or Acrylic Varnish )

For a research project we needed to create a semi conductive layer around the test object. We tried silicone rubber and carbon black at university but could not achieve much conductivity. Our silicone rubber could not take much of carbon black in it and with high percentage of carbon black it turned into a solid paste which could not be cured. I therefore decided to take the matter to home and ...

In this video I show you how to create a spiral structure in COMSOL and also i show you how to assign different colors to domains and boundaries. For a master thesis project we want to make a HVDC source based on wireless power transfer. We therefore needed to make a spiral structure to hold the litz wire and hence we could create a pancake coil. Talented master student, Suraj has created this ...
Flame rectification and physics behind it ( flame based diode )
Переглядів 3,4 тис.Рік тому
Flame has a property that can be used to rectify AC voltage. Basically the flame can act as a diode, However the amount of current that can pass through the flame is rather small so it has limited application. One of the application of flame rectification is to detect if there is a flame or not. This can act as a safety device and can provide information if the burner has flame or not. I will e...

Among the many publications which i looked at, one PhD thesis stands out, so if you plan to read here is the link: spiral.imperial.ac.uk/bitstream/10044/1/15991/2/Melinek-SJ-1969-PhD-Thesis.pdf Also it am...

Great video! I think one could improve the accuracy of this method by measuring the value of power supply voltage beforehand using a multimeter. At least that's what I do - I don't really trust those built-in meters :)

Thanks, I wanted to mention it in the video but forgot. The power supply I used, shows the current and voltage values rather accurately, otherwise we indeed must use a second multi meter to measure the voltage.

I made this exact circuit at home. Just got it going yesterday. I'm having an issue though- for whatever reason I can't seem to get it above 40 volts . If I try it just dies. I have an adjustable voltage regulator on the way from AliExpress after watching this. The differences with mine are: 4 turns on the primary, 980 turns (32awg) on secondary. Also, mine is rectified by two 6A10 diodes in series. I'd really like to know why I can't get it past 40 volts. I wish I could post a couple of pics here. (P.S. I don't own an oscilloscope, I'm fairly new to electronics, but it's extremely high on my list). I am thoroughly and utterly impressed with you. Any advice or help you could offer would be appreciated. Thanks for great content

It's with the voltage regulator and a triac dimmer switch in tandem in these video shorts. No snubber yet, maybe that's why I'm burning them up. It has a strange resonant effect in some of them. Is that caused by the electrons happenstance to coincide with the voltage ramp of the rising half sinewave?

Great analysis. One important detail: the output transformer has 6 windings in series. It is critical in this type of high voltage range. If there was only one winding with 6 time more turns, assuredly, the transformer would internally produce arcing and would burn very quickly. Hence, the importance of using 6 isolated windings in series, as is the case here. Great video, thanks, I wanted to open one of those for a long time. 🎉

13:00 You were measuring the capacitances while the capacitors were still part of the circuit; that generally produces incorrect results, yeah? Since the other parts of the circuit may e.g. have a capacitance of their own. Edit: ah, you do mention this later.
