Glad to see teachers in West VA feeling excited about the expanding options for homeschooling students. Basically, anything we can do to keep our children from the current crippling indoctrination that's been occurring in most public, union-run schools will better enable the next generations of Americans to become truly literate again (MALA!)

This option is far better than the present government monopoly situation , so thank you so much for all off your persistent efforts. However, this doesn;t stop the endless lifetime taxing of citzens going to corrupt and unaccountable bureacrats. The best outcome would be for this to be an incremental move twoard real freedom of eduction and freeing the public from eternal growing taxation to fund govt control. This kind of subsidizing of private education also does little to keep costs down although it does encourage competition, As you both allude to, regulation can expend into turing the private schools into increasing compliance with the state whereby the advantages would diminish as the private schools become more and more dictated to as per acceptable practices to receive the funds. The onll real path to educational freedom is to separate school and state .

love this! I was also a public school teacher from 1967-1969. I left because the principal was very upset with me for being too nice to the kids! I had already read Summerhill about a school in England which is still there now after over 100 years! Later we unschooled our kids and after a few years I moved to Framingham, Mass. and my youngest went to Sudbury Valley School for 11 yrs. He later went to the Museum School in Boston and Tufts U.

Thank you to Jeff and Laura for taking on this heroic journey. I've been researching alternatives to the traditional schooling models for some time now. Up until last year, when an Acton Academy opened 30 minutes from my house there was nothing out there that offered trust, choice and autonomy to the child. How do we expect these kids to go out into the world and think for themselves if they spend most of their waking hours being told what to do and what to think. And now more than ever we have employers complaining that their prospective employees are lacking in "soft skills." What they are lacking is identity and basic humanity because they coming out of school not knowing themselves. I should know, that is exactly what happened to me. And I was horrified at the thought of my own children going through the same factory model and coming out fitting someone else's mold for my child. I am overjoyed to say that my son (13.years old) will be starting his Hero's Journey in a few days. I so look forward to watching him discover his strengths and gifts and get excited about what he can bring to the world. I am also excited to learn how much value Acton Academy places on the family. With many reporters of schools usurping parental authority and encouraging students in lifestyle choices outside of a family's moral or religious framework I feel that we have found a true gem in the Acton model. For those of you who are not familiar with the Acton model and are not aware of the emphasis on family, they have something called a Family Badge Plan which all families are required to participate in. I have yet to start on ours but it basically walks you through the concept of formulating a culture for your family by establishing a Family Plan. I am very much looking forward to participating in this aspect of being an Acton Family.

Perhaps most viewers came to this presentation knowing what micro-schools are, but I didn't and it was not defined. Terms like "open enrollment" require an understanding of the education environment that I don't have and that term wasn't defined, either. As an insider presentation I'm sure this works, but for outsiders? If you're proselytizing, please consider that your audiences may not be as well informed on the subject matter as you are, and make sure to define your terms. Even the most outside of outsiders could become donors if nothing else.
