A wheel fell off my Landroid!
Переглядів 109Рік тому
Oh one thing to add. Once you do the thumb stick update to the older landroid you get two major benefits. 1.the unit will be able to connect to home wifi for updates in the future so you should never need to do that again. 2. The unit gets vastly improved turning strategies that improve how often it gets stuck and how hard it is on you grass when turning. Highly recommend the update.

We used to refer to them as striated shakes. Around here striated shingles were applied in a large reveal single layer over asphalt coated fiber companion boards. Stabbing a paint brush up under the course butts recess beat your brush harshly. Double coursing this product today would be very expensive

They were really nice looking panels too. Too bad they were a horrible design where the mech would jam up sometimes and prevent the breaker from tripping, tripping too late, or if you dead short it, the breaker would trip so hard it would break itself.

I'd be curious if those breakers could have been tested with an actual load current to see if they do still function as circuit breakers, or if 25% or them do not trip at all. That may help in the decision process whether to prophylactically replace the whole panel when StabLok is found.

The double-pole FPE breakers statistically have a trip failure rate of almost 50%. Single-pole breakers have a smaller failure rate. Some studies have found 80% failure rates!

This is really alarming. Let me know. The inspectors, or realstate agent, missed a lot of steps. Or the owners didn't care to consider the information. One is in a closet without a cover. Basically, like gasoline to a match if you ask me. I ran here after seeing a realtor explain these need replacing. Now it's like what to do. If owners, be letting tenants sit with this hazard. What to do? This must be replaced we are in danger.

Almost every building supply, building education, most people that have fixed existing home knows better than to block the air from your home. Homes need air circulation. Building materials need it, the health of your house depends on it. All this sealing up is noooo good for your home. Do your research. Ask people who work on existing homes not new homes that don't go back and see 5 Years later what happens to your wood , inside of your walls. Been at this for going on 30 years. I almost only do mold removal and repair. It's all most all due to people sealing there homes too much .. they simply are not designed to be air tight, the materials. Everything.

Where do you see mold and what area are you in? I have a two story sub-division house built in 1990 in the mid-west. I air sealed and insulated the band joist last year. I'm looking at the attic now. If I replace the bath fans with continuous running fans I think I will have more ventilation than before after sealing the top plates. If I don't have enough air leaking in from the basement, I would add a heat recovery vent but I think I'm a long way from needing one. All the doors leak a lot and the windows leak a little.

I do not know. FPE is still around but looks like they are out of the residential business. Probably traded hands many times since then. My guess is due to liability concerns no one wants to touch it. Problem that I see is that now they have a "rep" and no amount of assurance of rebuilding the units would make some people happy.

Also, have to consider the insulation in the house/room. If insulation is bad then people tend to by quick-fix space heaters to band aid the issue when they should ensure an air tight/well insulated home FIRST. That way, your climate control systems won't have to work as hard.

In the field, I like to refer to these backstab receptacles as La-Z-Wire. I always take a few extra seconds to wrap the wire around the screw. During my 6 years doing residential wiring, none of the receptacles or switches I installed failed, except for the occasional worn receptacle that won't hold a plug tightly, or a three way switch not working properly because the common and traveller got mixed up for whatever reason. On the other hand I've replaced several burned up backstab devices, space heaters and air conditioners being the culprit, and never had a callback.

  • @thomasblake7046

I tell people about back stabbing all the time. It's fine for low draw equipment but high draw stuff is a problem. The contact area is too small on a back stab so resistance increases which means heat increases. Fire waiting to happen. Hopefully people will heed your words.

Not sure what you are asking? If you are referencing the bus bar, Kinda. It is held in by screws that are in a epoxy/tar like substance on the back of the unit. In an interesting discussion over on Facebook someone reported the screws and bus bars as a potential problem. That isn't what I was taught but certainally could absolutely be an issue. I would not attempt any kind of surgery on this panel. The fpe stab lok is understood to be problematic and should be promptly replaced if an issue is identified. It should be on any owners upgrade list at a bare minimum.

Thank Eric, I've learnt a lot about FPE watching this video. Please, if you have the time, can you help me understand more as I am about to replace an FPE with 13(?) spaces each side with a new Square D panel. The lower spaces each side are occupied by 15 and 20 amp breakers that are connected to breakers in the top of the panel. Why did they do that? I am assuming I will need to replace them with stand alone 20 and 15 amp breakers in the new box. Is that correct? If you know of any reference material that would help me I would appreciate it if you could let me know. Thanks again for a great video. Best regards!

Hey I think I follow your question. New main panels have a main shut off that shuts power off the the bus bars. Older split bus panels such as this have energized upper bus bars at all times. It is just how the designs have improved over time. If you look at a diagram of Split bus panels versus a main breaker type that should help clear it up.

I have found after a few years of treatment with the commercial product it really doesn't need much. I also cleared some trees off which helps. Cheers.

  • @velcroman11

You can also use double strength vinegar. Normal vinegar is +-5%. Double strength is 9 %. In Sydney dbl strength vinegar is about $1. . Once it drys the moss is dead. Even if it rains the next day the moss will die it takes about 2/3 weeks. Do you want to save money use vinegar. Powder does not get into the cracks and next year you will be paying to gave the moss removed again.

    • @ericbrady7172
      @ericbrady7172 Рік тому

I haven't tried the vinigar method. I have also heard of powered bleach. The theory, as I understand it, on the commercial stuff is that zinc in the product interferes with photosynthesis and does not permit the moss or algae to generate food. It all depends on your local conditions! Trees, climate, wind direction, latitude temps, ect. I like liquid for its ability to be sprayed on which can help with steep roofs. Have a good one.

But I always discussed it with our clients and helped then understand what the issues are and let them decide how to spend their money.
