    I have the same problem with my CT-F7171. I think it is either the pinch roller, capstan or the motor. Stop the auto shut-off wheel briefly, then the winding wheel also stops, and the load from the winding wheel is gone, but the flutter is still there! Take a recording with a solo piano or acoustic guitar and test it out.

    Im having issue with my inflator. My inflator pumps out air but when it's connected to tyre valve, it doesn't pump out air. The hose connectors are good. What else could be the problem?

    I owned something similar decades ago long before CDs arrived. It was a unit that was a slightly lower level product to the Garrard transciption turntables 301 and later 401 favoured by broadcasting concerns and dyed-in-the-wool fans of Hi-Fi "separates".

    Nice work, Oliver. I have a type A Mark II as well. Mine is the darker metal, but everything looks to be the same, right down to the mechanisms. Like another poster mentioned, VM Audio Enthusiasts are a good source for the idler wheels. They do require you trade in your old idler wheel. As far as a cartridge, I had mine outfitted with an Ortofon Red. The headshell sits lower to the record, lower than what yours seems to be riding at. Sounds great though.

    I have one in excellent working order. Love the sound. Surprised to hear you say that it's comparable to Revox. From everything I've read online, people consider Studer/Revox as the best of the best in tape decks.

    The drive axle cannot wear on plastic, maybe the plastic drive hub itself has an eccentric hole, wow, a million miles on that machine!

    Try switching the right one for the left one as it is only used in rewind mode and may not have wear issue the right one develops over time??

    I also have one of these, &, unfortunately, I was not able to have it repaired at my trusted Audio/Video Shop. Don't know why, exactly, but I still have it. Perhaps ..I simply like the way it looks with the cool blue light where the cassette is inserted. I still...powers up and all the lights work, it just...won't...do anything else.

    Nice review and display. I ran thru most of Tandberg's tape decks, starting with the 64x model! I actually now have the latest Tandberg tape deck, the TD 20A. Do you do anything with these? I live in the Phoenix, AZ area.

    I see this was 3 years ago but if you still have this and are still looking VM Audio Enthusiasts can help you out with that idler wheel. I have purchased a couple from them for my Garrard Type A turntables.

      Yes, but I'm sure the original grease has turned to glue by now. It happens on all of these old decks. I have two of this model now, and they both had to be disassembled, cleaned up, and relubed with modern lubricants.

    the problem is the piston does not get any air !!!!! if you remove side black metal plate and drill a small hole 3mm on the top, because this thing has no air intake for the piston .. i did the hole and i gives more air

    Nice overview thanks. I have a 3341X which is cheaper but evidently shares some of the features of this. Just been repaired and serviced in the UK and it's as good as new - almost. The 9000X series I could never afford at the time but it's great to see a working one!

    Mine does not restart if the pressure reaches about 2 bar, but if I remove the pipe from the tire It will start. It seems as if it does not have enough torque to start. You mentioned this symptom in the video. I checked the valves and they seem to be ok. I checked the alignment of the piston and the cylinder which seems ok too. I have no idea. It is like that from day 1, but I have lost the bill to exchange it.

    Hi, I have one of these. It uses the same mechanism as the far more common CTF2121 so perhaps pick up a non working 2121 and use the transport.

    Indeed it's a shame that parts are no longer available from Pioneer. I am trying now to resurrect the very same deck, i.e CT-F7171. If yours is not repairable, would you consider parting it out?

    • @ContinentalCrumbs
      @ContinentalCrumbs 5 років тому

      I do hope that parts can be reproduced with e.g. 3D Printers in the future. Thats the reason why I stick to some of my defective parts.

    • @MrFennec
      @MrFennec 5 років тому

      @@ContinentalCrumbs Yes, for some plastic parts (gears, shivs, trim) and possibly low-torque levers and actuators it could be an option. Problem is that visible "cosmetic" parts are not that easily reproduced. In my case I am missing both the actual switches and the levers (RSK-024-0 and RAA-091-0) for the "Memory" and "Light" functions :(
