For a 'British English Teacher' you are missing a few points: Pillock is believed to derive from pilicock - a penis; plonker is quite simply another word for penis; wazzock is an amalgam of wanker and bollock(s); prat is a reference to buttocks and is thus another way of saying arse (or ass as the Americans would have it; but why you would want to kick someone up their donkey beats me...)

I am British and have used all those terms. I have even used them here in China but luckily only the British teachers I worked with understood what I meant.

Calling someone a “berk” is quite satisfying once you appreciate that it’s Cockney slang and comes from a word that rhymes with Berkeley Hunt.

My mother’s family uses the word “loafer” for a person who is low-class, boorish and uncouth, usually with a somewhat disreputable character, as opposed to the usual meaning which is lazy. I thought it was unique to that side of my family until I heard a work colleague using it . We are South Africans of British descent. Does anyone else know this one and anything about its origins

I think the term I use for a scruffy person is both clear in its meaning, but also somewhat humurous and apt. I first used it to describe Boris Johnson's unkempt appearance - 'he looks like an unmade bed'. Not offensive per se, but gets the message across.

I guess wanker or tosser is considered too vulgar. My innocent favourite is “On your bike”, which is loosely equivalent to “Get out of here” in North America.

As a mild oath, I favour the Welsh word "twmffat" (TOOM-FAT), which is "funnel" in English, but in the slang of the Welsh, it means "idiot."

The best place to pick up some colourful language ....some harmless, some not so much is Rotten Politics on UA-cam. You will find gems like swamp-fraggle and cock-womble.

This reminds me of the Monty Python sketch where the butcher keeps alternating between insulting and being polite. Lots of good ones: twit, trollop, ponce, poovy, poledanger (???), pooftah, pilloc, prancer (wow that's a lot of P words)

We call someone a 'Doyle" if they are not a full shilling.

My fisherman friend's favourite insults are Pilchard, Guppy and Gudgeon, which he uses to devastating effect. Personally (in honour of the incomparable Ian Dury) my preferred put-down is Blockhead: it leaves no room for misinterpretation, does not require any vocal inflexion or emphasis to achieve the desired purpose, and it works every time, especially when qualified by 'complete; utter; total', etc. (edit. Dropping the 'h' is an optional refinement--implement or not, depending on the particulars of the intended recipient).

I can remember the first times I heard some of these. I had a very hypercritical girlfriend and one day, as I sat innocently watching TV, she said, out of the blue, "Don't look so gormless". I asked what gormless meant and she glumly replied "Mindless". When, in my mis-spent youth, I used to hitch-hike, I offered to pay a guy who gave me a ride and he said "Don't be daft". Never heard of Billy no mates, but here in N.Z. decades ago at school, a friendless person was called a Spock. Not long ago I saw some people on TV anguishing over their family name, Nutter.

Wassock, numpty very northern English. Plonker, chav southern. Chav is used to describe someone lower class. The North is far less class conscious so they don’t use it. Manky is not an insult; it’s used to describe something dirty or broken. Prat has a very rude origin. No one says twit. Some of my favourites- Big Girls Blouse ( northern) for someone who is a bit of a wet noodle; God botherer for someone religious and Coffin dodger for someone old. Seen more pork sausage than a butchers dog describes a woman of loose morals, as does Second hand dartboard for reasons l won’t go into. This bloke is so out of touch. Any serious student of British insults, profanity and filth should consult Roger’s Profanisaurus. It’s hilarious.
