Very easy. K must be a negative figure. For simplicity a=-k. a^2+a^3= a(a^2+1)= 150 =25×6 a=5. k=-5.

Just an idea Scince: e^i π=-1 ==> e^(ipi+3*ln(2))=-8 (2^p)^3=e^(3p*ln(2)) apply it to (2^p)^3= -8 ==>e^(3p*ln(2)) =e^(ln(8)+i π) ==> p=((ipi+3*ln(2)))/(3ln2) ==> p=1+ i π/(3ln(2)) What’s wrong in my solution

your solution is correct. there are 2 more unique solutions to this cube-root problem. note: -1 = exp(i*pi + i*2*pi*n) where n = any integer because all angles in complex plane are 2*pi periodic. now take cube root and you get 3 unique solutions for n=0,1,2.

can you solve for "3a + a = c" for some constant c? In other words, you were able to see that 10 can be decomposed into a number cubed plus that number. Can you solve it if you did not have this trick, for some arbitrary constant "c" to get a solution in terms of "c"?

why go this route, just throw sqrt(2) to the right at the very beginning, square everything, add 2 and 3, multiply roots and you get your answer, it's like 2 steps, i doubt it's related to harvard (also a typo in the title)

I think this can be done a lot simpler sqrt(x) + sqrt(2) = sqrt(3) gives sqrt(x) = sqrt(3) - sqrt(2) squaring both sides: x = (sqrt(3) - sqrt(2))^2 = 3 -2 sqrt(3) sqrt(2) + 2 since sqrt(3) sqrt(2) = sqrt(6), we get: x = 5 -2sqrt(6)

Terrible solution. Student would fail admission. Maths requires insight and creativity, not blind application of rules which is all YT tutors can do. Mentally, within 1 second, (1-k) must be positive. So k= -5 for then k²(1-k) = 150.
