    Actually my garage champ, lol “professional” using whatever is laying around the garage. Shocker. Thus I don’t trust most “professional mechanics”. With newer vehicles having more complex tech. Frightening the things shade tree bubba is probably trying to do to a customers car

    Do you have to use the anchors on stucco? I'm mounting a motion sensor light but wasn't sure if I can just use the regular screws on stucco.

    • @samm1462
      @samm1462 3 місяці тому

      Likely regular screws won’t work. Stucco is layers of cement and aggregate and likely wire mess and other substrates such as wood and foam.

    Use dielectric grease for terminals, WD 40 is not the best idea. The grease is available at auto stores, Walmart and other places. Manufactured by Dow Corning.

    Always use twisted pairs per standard telephone practices to reduce the possibility of noise pickup especially if your cables are long and/or used in areas where they may be suscepitable to EMI from other electronic/electric devices.

    Just a question I have if you may mind me, I am buying old dated house from 60s and one of the first things is changing the molding inside, can I buy a cat5, cat5e, cat6 or cat3 and wire that into a phone jack and just add a plain rj11 end on the other side, I am using cheap VoIP) Obihai/xlink gateway. I do not have a network interface device unfortunately so that’s why I need to just add a rj11 end.

    Get yourself one of those round wire brushes made for battery terminals, they are cheap, and completely clean the battery posts and battery connectors. Don't forget to clean your battery shelf with baking soda /water otherwise, battery acid might migrate to the shelf and eat a hole in the metal shelf.

  • @jameskoralewski1006
    @jameskoralewski1006 3 роки тому

    Use the baking soda/water to completely clean the terminals and then put a wire brush to the terminals to remove all old metal and make them shine like new.

  • @jameskoralewski1006
    @jameskoralewski1006 3 роки тому

    It is dumb to use WD-40 as an acid neutralizer. WD-40 is 50% a light oil (like kerosene) and 50% Naptha. Neither will neutralize acid. You would do much better using a mixture of warm water and baking soda, which is a good acid neutralizer and cheap to buy, and easy to find.

    But you're not using pairs properly. You're using four wires, one from each of the four pairs. Best phone wiring, especially when modem or router is involved, would use a twisted pair for then main phone line. Blue and white/blue for example.

      Ummm no. Connecting a RJ45 to a RJ11, actually used for a fax line that goes to a POTS on a router. I think you’re missing why I did this. Was to connect a rj11 to a rj45. Gee magic years later last I knew that line is still in use and working like a champ.

    I wouldn't use metal drywall anchors, if ever needed to switch out those anchors they will tear out the stucco. They make stucco anchors which are specially designed screws. Keypads are very light and don't take much to hold them to the stucco wall. Good use of the caulking though. (My bad Sam, those ones you used are probably Zinc plated. No rust for a while.)

    • @samm1462
      @samm1462 5 років тому

      Jarrod Wood they’ve been in place 6 years, no rust no fuss. Stucco anchors don’t work. Plastic anchors are 2 flimsy for stucco and break. Those anchors are galvanized steel. Also the caulk forms a seal. Have to disagree with your assessment. I’ve used the anchors for hand towels and lights in the bathroom. No rust no fuss.

    • @Sophos1964
      @Sophos1964 Рік тому

      Stucco anchors do work. The keypad is so light weight, you could’ve used just about any lightweight anchor or small masonry screws to support it. Masonry screws would embed in the stucco lathe behind the stucco cement.

    If placing rubber boots over terminals to protect, it would be best to use silicon based lube as not to damage the rubber boot. I'm not sure if lithium grease interacts with rubber or not, but silicon definitely will not. Cheers.

      +Quad SSD yeah someone like me could also tell it was re-wrapped I have items form the early 90s that are clearly in original wrap, if something really gains value likely techniques could be used to determine if it was re-wrapped.
