    Does TACO have haemolysis? Why is there haemoglobinuria in TACO?

    • @bloodtransfusioncpd5311
      @bloodtransfusioncpd5311 2 роки тому

      Hi there, TACO is not related to haemolysis, there are only a few transfusion reactions which cause haemolysis and these are known as haemolytic transfusion reactions. TACO is specifically to do with pulmonary oedema due to excess volume or circulatory overload. It does not tend to present with haemoglobinuria.

      Hi there, if you go onto the IBMS website, they will have a document which outlines all of the possible text books/materials that may be of use for completing the HSD. There tend to be about 20 recommended text books.

      @@Cabmax78 Hi Cab, while the majority of it is self directed, you will need some form of support. This is because you need to have a managerial case study and the opportunity to perform a task which you can use for this. Also having someone who can look at and give you feedback on your work will help to ensure that it is a good standard. Finally you will need time away from the lab to be able to take the exams (when you get to that part!) so you need to make sure that this can be supported too.

    Hello thank you for this informative video. Is there an average amount of time where people complete the registration portfolio?

    • @bloodtransfusioncpd5311
      @bloodtransfusioncpd5311 3 роки тому

      Hi There, The amount of time will completely vary based on: - The support you get at work - The amount of time you personally devote to it - And health/annual leave etc. I have known people to complete it within 6 Months and others who have taken 3+ years. However it would be reasonable to say that around the year mark is the most common time it takes, with your laboratories support.

    Hii Myself Ramakrishna from India I have completed M.Sc in Biochemistry with 11 years experience in Clinical Biochemistry department which is similar to Biomedical Scientist- Biochemistry...what is the possibility of getting registration from HCPC..Could you please guide me??

    • @bloodtransfusioncpd5311
      @bloodtransfusioncpd5311 3 роки тому

      Hi Ramakrishna, In order for you to be a registered Biomedical Scientist there are a couple of requirements you would need to meet: - Firstly you need to get the Institute of Biomedical Science to review your degree and ensure that it meets the standards that they set for Biomedical Scientists: www.ibms.org/registration/degree-assessment-for-hcpc-registration/#:~:text=%20Degree%20assessment%20for%20HCPC%20registration%20%201,to%20assess%20IBMS%20accredited%20degrees%20in...%20More%20 This link has the information on how this would work - If it does meet the requirements then that is the biggest hurdle! If it doesn't then you would need to do the top up modules that they give you a list of. -Once that is complete you would need to get a job in a laboratory, this can be extremely difficult as it is quite competitive. A lot of people have to start out as a Healthcare Scientist Support Worker (Previously known as an MLA) and work their way up through the lab as openings appear. Although occasionally you will be lucky and get a job as a "trainee", these are specifically designed to allow you to progress to a Biomedical Scientist and should ensure that you are supported in your portfolio, however are very competitive. - When you are in the laboratory, you should be able to start looking into your registration portfolio, depending on where you work they will have different rules on how this is dealt with and who is allowed these. And then it is just completing the portfolio. It is a very long winded path if you have not studied Biomedical Science unfortunately. It is worth looking at whether this is something that you will be passionate about, and also considering other positions. For example it may be worth looking at being a clinical scientist, which has a different route, or at the currently developing apprenticeship scheme to get people into biomed.

      Hi Iram, I would speak to your workplace, because it is always easier with support, but in general there is nothing to stop you from getting started with gathering evidence for the portfolio. The IBMS has a reference copy that you can download from their website along with some great resources, and most evidence that you gather will be valid for 3 yrs at least so you will have pleanty of time to get the official portfolio through.
