    I always go tight at the bottom loose and tight at top but never use the top holes which allows for good feel up to the ankles but doesnt restrict my ankle bend.

    Can I bake Riedell figure skating boots like this if they don’t have blades yet? Should I use the same temperature? Do you do one at a time or is it ok to bake two & put on both of them at the same time?

    I go over, then under, all the way up. That way I'm cinching every other eye. They're tied more quickly, and end up nice and tight.

    Same as how I tight my ski boots. Snug in front to reduce cold feet, Loose in the middle for your arch, lock in your ankle lace tight so you don’t slide forward. Don’t use the top eyelet for tight turn.

    wouldn't the tension equalize throughout the laces after a bit just from flexion etc?

    • @DuPrawPowerskating
      @DuPrawPowerskating 3 місяці тому

      @fergieferg60 not the way I tie at the top. I just keep encouraging players to experiment to find their feel. I heard people giving advice such as...this is the stick flex you need, this is how to tape the blade, this is how to tie..go look at all the different styles in an NHL locker room...many do it their way...now if it's detrimental to your mechanis...yes better have a professional dig into where it's going wrong

    It's very hard to give feedback to the best players when you can't get the proper measurables and numbers around the "improvements" or adjustments in coaching. You're looking at a 13 second lap time with him. Then you say the toe push adjustment will help, the shoulder inside will help, the knee up more will help etc. Yet he's fast, statistically, WITHOUT doing those adjustments. Why? That I think needs to be learned first before giving feedback. There's a reason these players have set very high standards in skating, and I suspect the type of feedback that doesn't help is a contributing factor for them performing with "flaws"

    I have gone to multiple shops trying to get my skates sharpened and every time it’s a different sharpen. My brother in law got one of these and it’s like I’ve never had my skates sharpened before. It crushes any skate sharpen ive ever had and I’m 38 and have played hockey for a long time

  • @liamlad1
    @liamlad1 6 місяців тому

    so what I have noticed is that a sharpen at the shop is a 4 or 5 cycle equivalent. When I do it I may do a 4 cycle but typically a 2 pass just to refine.

  • @beezer5623
    @beezer5623 7 місяців тому

    Not sure if mentioned but I remember hearing McDavid doesn’t use the last couple eyes so the tie is right at the hinge of you foot so he can bend easier. I may try that next time I skate.

    • @jsquared1013
      @jsquared1013 6 місяців тому

      You need to have strong ankles/supporting muscles and have trained that way a LOT to be able to pull it off. Try reducing one eyelet at a time.

  • @respectnhonor10
    @respectnhonor10 7 місяців тому

    Lol except any and all skating will eventually even out that "tight/loose" tie up. Especislly without using wax laces like this guy. Lol physics is a tough one

  • @Reese_md
    @Reese_md 7 місяців тому

    The reason MacKinnon doesn’t start accelerating off his toes and using “toe punches” is because it’s not mechanically optimal. You see the same thing with McDavid. Sure the toe might be the last thing to leave the ice but that’s because of the rocker, or roundness of the skate blade. The toe naturally is the last thing to leave the ice. It’s not a push. Also, McDavid also doesn’t fully extend in his stride, this is because hockey is all about optionally, and staying wide and not fully extending gets you that optionality to make played (deke around defenders, pass, shoot etc) , McDavid and MacKinnon are fast, but they aren’t focused on raw speed, they should be a speed skater if they wanted to do that. Hockey players need to focus on the context of hockey rather than just, being the fastest in a straight line.

    Some of these clips of drills have me questioning why I stay subbed. Not personally a fan of training in ways that don’t apply to real situations. Also, hockey coaches and camps seem very guilty of convoluted, overly complex drills which seem to only serve the coaches need to micromanage and overcompensate with overly complex drills which are nearly impossible to remember. Just some thoughts.

    Hi Ryan. Do you have a book for hockey power skating? And, do you conduct seminars for other power skating coaches? I work with an amazing program in Colorado called the Colorado Extreme. My background is a figure skating coach, for many years, but have now become a huge hockey fan and love our kids! As they improve, I need to as well. Please check out our organization on line - the mission is inclusivity and no skater pays a penny - for anything. We will have 5 sheets in western CO this coming season and are growing at a crazy speed. I love your passion for the game and your videos and would like to attend a workshop if you have them. Thank you!

    The Sparx machine offers something that most proshops can't, and that is consistency. You get the same sharpening every single time which is not possible at most proshops. I sharpened and profiled skates for 35 years. Started with an old Fero, then Foley, Blademaster, and then Wissota. While the finish of the Sparx isn't quite as good as I could offer with the a conventional machine, it is still quite good. The machine only puts the hollow in the blade, the true art comes in how the blade is deburred after grinding. There is a youtube video on my channel on how I debur. It was shot long before I bought a Sparx but the technique is the same.

    Great video but i have a question. When you tie your skates like that, do you feel maximum control on the ice the same you would if you were to tie your skates tight all the way to the top?

    • @DuPrawPowerskating
      @DuPrawPowerskating 10 місяців тому

      I absolutely do, I know pros that are so tight their feet are purplish red after games and other pros that I have no idea how their edge work is so good when they are so loose. I can't state this enough....the only thing cookie cutter advice is for making cookies. The only time I tell a player about their stick flex, lie, kick weight, or skate fit to shin guards over or under the lounge is if it affects performance. Otherwise it's up to the individual. Sit and listen sometime to all the free advice out there. There's a ton, you have to find what works best for you or have a professional watch your mechanics and sort through it.
