Repairing Fire Pit Area before heavy rains came from Hurricane Hermine (35 secs)

The forecasters called for 5 to 9 inches of rain for central SC in the wake of Hurricane-reduced-to-tropical-storm Hermine. I really needed to add creek gravel to the firepit area to minimize erosion on the hillside.

We pedaled from Duck, NC to the ferry that took us over to Okracoke Island. Along the way we stopped at the Wright Brother's museum and actual field at Kitty Hawk where they first flew (but no video there, just stills), then to Nags Head where the largest sand dune on the East Coast is located. A fun climb!

Back Porch Camtasia project by Karen June 2013
When you see someone raise their hand, it's not that they have a question, but it's the signal to the cars behind us that we're braking and slowing down or stopping.
Great camera work!
Glad you enjoyed it
Never seen i car like that before . loved it
Thanks, great idea 💡 !!
Glad you liked it!
I want one
Nice video mate but I'll never understand why people want to play music over the best music there is....your own bike.
You've got a good point there! Next time, just the bike. :)
Did you say there is only one drive wheel? I’ve had manny mowers over the years and they were always two wheel drive. What model is it?
It's a Honda Harmony HRB 217... bought around 1999 or 2000, if I remember correctly. Only the left rear wheel drives.
I did that to mine , it sure helped out a lot and saved me some money at around 20 bucks for each drive wheel
How about washers so the screws can't go in deeper?
Good thought. I've not tried that but it makes sense. I used a drop of super glue on them to keep them at the right depth.
if it was me I would leave a little bit more sticking out actually going to do this to my mower but leave about to centimeters sticking out great video man by the way I found you on Google
Thank you I'm going to do this today mine keeps sliding and its breaking my back moving it around thank you sir.
You lose one of those screws in your driveway and you got a flat tire on your truck. A new wheel for your mower will not break the bank. About ten bucks at Lowes.
That would be true. What I've noticed is that the screws always work themselves deeper into the lawnmower wheel. They never want to come out. In fact, a few weeks ago I backed them out just a little more, put a drop of super glue on each screw and ran them back in do the depth I want them. They've not budged since then. Also, I slightly lift the rear wheels off the driveway when I cross it so that the screws don't clank, clank, clank across the cement. I only have to cross the driveway once when I cut the yard.
Good idea, I wish it was as simple as a new tire. But in my case, using a Honda HRN216VKA self propelled lawn mower, which as "plastic" the tires (not great for traction). I like R Mayer's idea. (But I will also try the washer and glue idea too). Thanks.
is this the same car on that show chasing classic cars?
Yes, it is.
I was under my sink for about 30 mins trying to figure out how to do that! Lol. This video made it super easy. Thanks!
Thanks for posting this!
Thanks for the help. But now I need diy how to fix the drip.
this car is at the museum?
It was last summer. I took this picture of it: www.flickr.com/photos/vrider97/19888815162/in/photolist-mogGAn-m4K158-mogGzv-ot6Gu3-wivnQf
That is awesome! Where is this? How cool to have such an amazing, front row seat!
This is in the center of Lake Murray in the middle of S.C. It's the largest Purple Martin sanctuary in the USA. They migrate up from South America and arrive in mid June each year. About mid August they begin their migration back to South America with their newborn ones from the summer. This summer's newborns find their way back next summer over many thousands of miles. Amazing!
great place!!
and nothing but a zipline remains..
que du bonheur
Beautiful video <3 That's a lovely sound the wind makes. May she rest in peace :) <3
Did he actually buy that at the Lee Hartung auction? What an amazing collection Lee had! I live in Maryland and I'm going to ride down to Wheels through Time this Spring. Do you know if he has the Sears motorcycle there, that he bought at the Hartung auction also? Thanks for sharing. Amazing
+Steve Sinclair, when I talked with Dale when I shot this video in the summer of 2012 or '13, he said he bought it at the Lee Hartung auction. Don't know about the Sears motorcycle, but he has so many motorcycles in the museum that it could well be there. That museum is worth a visit, for sure. I go there several times each summer.
what is that black square on the lefthand side of the handlebar?
+Wouter Smit, that is a fold-down, adjustable cup holder. It comes in handy on long trips when I have my windshield on the bike. W/o windshield in place, the wind can be too strong on the cup, as you might imagine. Some bike shops and all marine shops sell them.
Do you remeber what time the release started?
+Joanne, the release started at 5 minutes 'til noon.
I wonder what it would have been like kayaking on the Saluda then. I've been on it during normal times.
+fordfreak2007, I imagine it would've been very fast and fairly smooth, since the water was way higher than the rocks. The problem would be trying to go under the I-20 bridge, since there was not enough room for a kayak to fit under it at it's highest point. Also, trying to get off the river would've been hard to do before getting to Charleston Harbor, probably. :) A paddler would have to get off into the woods on either side with water flowing fast through the woods, which would wrap a kayak around a tree way too easily. I love to kayak and canoe, but I opted for high ground on this one! :)
Death? Lol
Great video! My grandfather was one of the engineers that helped build Saluda Dam.
That is so cool. Mine was too. He helped engineer the tunnels from the towers to the turbines. So much history there!
In the 70's, we called that area 'The Rocks'...
So glad you captured so many good memories of times with Karen.
How did you get the button off the top so easily? I broke the tip off my knife trying!
Lindsay Leigh Bentley Lindsay, I've done about 5 or 6 of those in the house, as well as some neighbor's houses and they all popped of easily, but with a firm snap. My knife blade is stainless steel, so the blade is pretty strong. Had I used one of my kitchen knives with softer steel (for easier sharpening) it may have broken, I don't know. Sorry you lost your tip off your blade.
My brand new tap has play in it, but not like this. When I turn it about half way on it feels like it slips slightly, as if there is a clutch slipping. Tried tightening this screw but it's already tight.
I broke my leg doing that! Take it down its dangerous
Maybe you just can't hold up your own body weight
That was many years ago. I did have a ladder up to the treehouse, but some neighborhood kids did not have the "strength-to-weight" ratio to be able to hang on. Therefore, I removed the ladder and cut a hole and hatch cover in the floor and hung a climbing rope from the treehouse. If one had the strength to climb the rope to get into the treehouse, they had the strength to hang on to the zipline. It solved the problem. :)
Just happened across this cause I enjoy cycling, looked like a great day. So sorry for your loss!
We were just there and to see the obvious joy she had riding around the park is very touching...thank you for sharing this...
why the music..........isn't the exhaust good enough................just want to hear the bike
Yeah, I know what you mean. I added the music because the stock pipes on the Valkyrie are fairly quiet, so the wind noise overpowered them. I was really just covering up wind noise. Still, the feeling of floating down the road is so nice. If I can block the wind noise, I'll try it again.
I don't mean to insult but the bike has one of the nicest sounds on the planet but I cant hear it
The problem with onboard camera is the inbuilt microphone. They are ineffective. I use a 3.5mm wired mic that cost 7euros on Amazon. I wrapped dishwasher spong around the mic and taped it so it can't unravel. Then I placed the mic on the top right corner of the registration plate with it's own clip. That way, no wind nois at all, whatever the speed and it picks up the exhaust directly... try it. If your camera doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, you can check for cables on Amazon that are micro usb to usb + 3.5mm output. It is worth the 17euro or whatever for a nice clean video and sound of the bike.
Not a race engine. They came standard spec with that set up.
My condolences. What was he original body color? It looks like some dark blue paint showing through one fender. The car would look a lot better in a different color for sure.....
I love this car! one of the most interesting on youtube I think:) sorry for your loss.
cool, but it sure is ugly.
Washing this thing won't make it look any better. Leave the dirt "patina" right where it is, thank you.
This is STILL one weird looking car.
Guss, I'm like you in that I had never seen one. Look it up on the internet and you'll find some interesting facts about them.
Reminds me of 62 Chrysler Turbine which I saw at NYC auto show in 62. At that time Chrysler gave out scale models of it, which I still have. Nowadays they'll charge a pretty penny for anything like that.
No NEVER clean a barn find car like this. The dust for some people like me makes a cool appeal of a time capsule. Washing away that 60 year old dust can never be replaced and the time capsule look is gone forever. I like he kept it that way. But that is the market these days of big barn finds. I hope he hasn't added too much modern dust driving it around :D
Ralph, I just love watching you and Karen enjoy life. It is such a pleasure to know you both. :)
all the custom/ show/ experimental/ preproduction/ limited run/ exotics/ of however you might classify them, in that era shows bold/over the top/ wild fantasy, post-war early 50's enthusiasm and ideals/ideas. shows thru on this car.
"Beauty...or ugly, in your case...is in the eye of the beholder," as the ancient Greeks liked to say. If you want to know '49 vs. '51 answer, contact Dale at the museum. He has an impressive knowledge of all things wheel.
Great sound, very 'cammy". I'm surprised that in all the videos I've seen of this car, no one has commented on the visual similarities of the rear to the Harley Earl Le Sabre concept.
probably won't happen.... at least a week an a half ago, the owner said at Amelia Island, he has no plans to restore it.
How fun!!!
